わたしは、預言者たちと使徒たちが書き記してきたイエスを求めるように、あなたがたに勧めたい。そうすれば、父なる神と主イエス・キリストと、この御二方のことを証される聖霊の恵みが、とこしえにあなたがたの内にとどまれるであろう。エテル書１２：４１

And now, I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of them, may be and abide in you forever.  Ether 12:41

This scripture was given by Moroni as he completed the history of the Jaredite nation.  Chapter 12 of the Book of Ether was written mostly by Moroni and includes this scripture.

この聖句はモロナイがヤレド人の記録を完遂した時に残したものです。エテル書12章は殆どモロナイによって記録されたものでこの聖句もその一つです。

Much like President Monson’s final General Conference talk, Moroni may have felt that this was going to be his last opportunity to bear his testimony.  He talks about the final judgement and reminds us that he will be there when we come before the judgement bar of God.  

モンソン大管長の最後の総大会でのお話しのように、モロナイもこれが最後に残せる証になると感じていたのかもしれません。彼は最後の裁きについて、また私たちが神の裁きの法廷に立つとき彼もそこにいると述べています。

His plea in this scripture is for us to learn about Jesus Christ.  Like all of the ancient prophets, Moroni testifies from his heart that Jesus is the Christ.  

この聖句で彼は私たちがイエス・キリストについて学ぶことを嘆願しています。古代のすべての預言者同様、モロナイもイエスがキリストであると心から証をしています。

In this scripture, Moroni uses the word “seek”.  In English, this means to search with great effort.  It means that we should do more than just know about Jesus Christ.  It means that even having a testimony of Jesus Christ is not enough.

この聖句ではモロナイは「求める」という言葉を使っています。英語ではこれは凄い努力をして探すという意味です。それは単にイエス・キリストについて知る以上の事をするという意味です。またイエス・キリストに証を持っているだけでは十分ではないという意味です。

We are to seek Jesus Christ.  We are to learn everything we can about him.  We are to learn about his commandments.  We are to learn about his gospel.

私たちはイエス・キリストを探し求めねばなりません。最善を尽くしてキリストについて学ばねばなりません。戒めについて、また福音について学ばねばなりません。

But, just knowing those things is not enough.  Just knowing those things is not “seeking”.  

しかし単にそれらを知るだけでは十分でありません。それらを知ることは「探し求める」事ではないのです。

We must seek to make Jesus Christ the center of our own life.  We must seek to remember the things that Jesus Christ has taught us.  We must seek to follow his example every day in all that we do and say.

努めてイエス・キリストを生活の中心としなければなりません。イエス・キリストが教えられた事を覚えるよう努めねばなりません。私たちの言動全てにおいて毎日努めてキリストの模範に従わねばなりません。

Most importantly, we need to seek to be like him.

中でも最も大切なのは、私たちはキリストのようになろうと努めねばならないということです。

As we seek to be like the Savior, Moroni promises us that we will always have his spirit to be with us.  Moroni tells us that “the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost” will abide with us forever.

救い主のようになろうと努めるとき、私たちは救い主の御霊を常に持つことが出来るとモロナイは約束しています。モロナイは「父なる神と主イエス・キリストと聖霊の恵み」が、とこしえに私たちの内にとどまれるであろう」と述べています。

What a wonderful promise!

何と素晴らしい約束でしょう！

As we seek to learn of Jesus Christ, as we seek to keep his commandments, as we seek to follow his example, we will be able to have his spirit abide with us.   

イエス・キリストについて知ろうと努めるとき、戒めを守ろうと努めるとき、模範に従おうと努めるとき私たちはキリストの御霊が私たちの内にとどまってくれるのです。

We will be protected from temptation.  We will be directed to make good choices.  We will be watched over and protected.  We will be blessed and guided in our own lives.

私たちは誘惑から守られ、正しい選択ができるよう導かれ、見守られるのです。私たち個人の生活においても祝福と導きを受けるのです。

As we go through this week, let’s try to seek “this Jesus of whom the apostles and prophets have written”.  Let’s seek to learn about his commandments.  Let’s seek to follow his example in all that we do.

今週を過ごすとき「預言者たちと使徒たちが書き記してきたイエスを」求めるようにしましょう。戒めを学ぶよう努めましょう。私たち全ての行いにおいてキリストの模範に努めて従いましょう。
