神は忠実な者に対して、教えに教え、訓戒に訓戒を与えるからである。そして、わたしはこれによってあなたがたを試み、あなたがたを試そう。教義と聖約９８：１２
For he will give unto the faithful line upon line, precept upon precept; and I will try you and prove you herewith. Doctrine & Covenants 98:12
This is an interesting scripture for our modern world.
これは今の社会には興味のある聖句です。
In today’s world, it seems we can find the answer to anything instantly. If we need to know what a word means, or who someone is, or where something is, we expect Google to tell us immediately. If we want to talk to a friend or get a message to someone, we expect to be able to do so without waiting. We want information right now!
現代はどのようなことでも瞬時に答えを見つけることが出来るように思えます。ある単語の意味や、ある人物が誰だとか、あるものがどこにあるかなど知る必要があればGoogle がすぐに教えてくれると期待します。もし友達に話をしたいとか、誰かにメッセージを送りたければ、待つことなくそれが当然出来るものと考えています。私たちは情報を即座に欲しいのです。
But that is not how it works in the Lord’s plan.
しかし、主の計画ではそのように行きません。
The Lord does not give us all the answers immediately. As this scripture teaches us, we are given knowledge “line upon line, precept upon precept”.
主はすべての答えをすぐにはくださいません。この聖句が教えるように私たちは知識を『教えに教え、訓戒に訓戒』というように少しずつ受けるのです。
But what if we don’t understand why the prophet tells us to do something. What if we have questions about whether or not it is really true? What if we don’t know all the facts?
しかし、もし何故預言者が何かをするように言われるのか私たちが理解していなかったらどうでしょう？もしそれが真実かどうか疑問をもっていたらどうでしょう？もしすべての事実や真相を知らなければどうでしょう？
As we study the gospel, there are always many things that we do not yet understand. Many of us have questions about gospel topics.
私たちが福音を学ぶとき、私たちにはまだ理解できないことが多くあります。私たちの中には福音の話題について疑問を持っている人もいます。
Why can’t women hold the priesthood? What about polygamy? Why do we have to obey the Word of Wisdom when it is recorded in the scriptures that righteous people drank wine?
女性が何故神権を持てないのか？一夫多妻につぃて、何故知恵の言葉に従わねばならないのか、聖典の記録によれば正しい人が酒を飲んでいた、等々。
Maybe we read something on the Internet about Church history that makes us question the actions of an earlier Church leader. Maybe we read something that makes us question a particular commandment. Maybe we hear something that causes us to doubt our faith.
たとえば、私たちはインターネットで教会歴史について初期の教会の指導者の行動について疑問を持つような記事を読んだり、ある戒めに疑問を持たせるようなものを読んだりするかもしれません。また信仰に疑問を起こさせるようなものを聞くかもしれません。
That has happened to all of us. It will continue to happen to all of us. It is all part of the plan. This life is a time of testing. If we were given all the answers at the beginning of the test, it would not be a true test.
私たちはだれでもそんな経験をしているでしょう。そしてこれからも続けて起こるでしょう。それはすべて（神の）計画の一部なのです。この世は試しの時期なのです。もし試しの最初にすべての回答が与えらるなら、それは真の試しにはなりません。
We are expected to rely on our faith. We are expected to wait patiently until the Lord decides to give us more information. As we obey the truths that we are given, we will be given more information and more knowledge.
私たちは自分の信仰に頼るよう求められています。私たちは主が更なる情報をくださるのをお決めになるまで忍耐強く待つよう求められています。私たちに与えられている真理に従順であるとき、私たちはより多くの情報と知識を受けるのです。
This can be compared to working a jigsaw puzzle. When you first dump out all the pieces, nothing seems to go together. If you pick up a puzzle piece, it does not make sense. We cannot see how it fits into the whole puzzle picture.
これはジグソーパズルをするのにたとえる事が出来ます。最初に箱から全てのピースを出すとき、どれひとつ合わないように思えます。もし一個だけピースを取ってみても何の意味もありません。それがパズル絵全体のどこに合うのかわかりません。
But as we slowly work on the puzzle, we begin to find pieces that fit together. Over time, we begin to see the whole puzzle picture. We begin to see where each piece fits in to the picture.
しかし少しずつパズルをやっていくと私たちは合うピースを見つけ始めます。そして徐々にパズルの全体像が見えてきます。私たちはその絵のどこに各々のピースが合うのか見えてきます。
In the end, we will understand everything. In the end, we will have all knowledge. In the end, everything will be explained. In the end, we will be able to “see the whole puzzle picture”.
そして最後に私たちはすべてがわかるのです。私たちはすべての知識を受けるのです。最後に全ての説明をうけるのです。私たちは「パズルの全体像を見る」ことが出来るのです。
I know that we are expected to go forward with faith. I know that we will not be given all the answers to our questions. If we have faith, if we obey the commandments, we will receive all the knowledge that is necessary for us to live with Heavenly Father again.
私たちは信仰を持って前進するよう求められていることを私は知っています。抱えている全ての疑問に答えが与えられることはないと私は知っています。信仰を持ち、戒めに従順であれば私たちは天父と再び共に住むために必要なすべての知識を受けるでしょう。
Don’t let your doubts or questions hold you back. Go forward with faith, trusting in the Lord.
疑いや疑問が進歩の邪魔にならないようにしましょう。信仰を持ち、主を信頼しながら前進しましょう。
