さらに言うが、あなたがたがまた、たとえ世の初めからあなたがたを造り、あなたがたが自分の意のままに生きて動き、行動できるようにあなたがたに息を与えて日々守り、いかなる瞬間にもあなたがたを支えてくださっている御方に、たとえ全身全霊を尽くして仕えたとしても、それでもなお、あなたがたはふつつかな僕である。モーサヤ２：２１
I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to the next — I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants. Mosiah 2:21
In this well-known scripture, king Benjamin teaches us a very important lesson.
ベニヤミン王はこの良く知られた聖句の中で私たちにとても大切なレッスンを教えています。
The theme of this scripture is gratitude. Gratitude is an important character trait that we all need to develop.
この聖句のテーマは感謝です。感謝は私たちが育てるべき大切な人格、性質です。
In this world, ingratitude is much more common than gratitude. People are impatient. People are not humble. People are not grateful for their blessings.
世間では感謝より感謝をしないことの方が一般的です。人は短気で謙虚さがなくなっています。人は授かっている祝福に対し感謝の気持ちを持っていません。
Many people are not grateful for the many things that Lord has blessed them with. Not only are they not grateful for the things that they have, but they demand and covet more things. They want to have more money. They want to have more power. They want to be more famous.
大多数の人は主が祝福してくださっている多くの事がらに感謝の気持ちを持っていません。彼らは受けている事がらに感謝の気持ちを持つところか、もっと多くのものを要求します。もっと沢山お金が欲しい、もっと権力が欲しい、もっと有名になりたいなど。
This is not what king Benjamin teaches us. He teaches us that we should always be grateful for the blessings that we receive from the Lord.
それはベニヤミン王が教えることとは違います。彼は私たちが主から受ける祝福に常に感謝の気持ちを持つべきだと教えています。
He reminds us that everything we have comes from the Lord. In the first place, the Lord created. That is the greatest blessing that we have received. But that is not all. It is only through his blessings of daily “breathe” that we are able to live each day.
彼は私たちの所有物すべては主から来ていると教えています。まず最初に主がそれらを創られたのです。それは私たちが受けている最もすばらしい祝福です。しかしそれだけではありません。主が日々の「息」を祝福してくださることで私たちは毎日生きることができるのです。
Even after doing all that, the Lord does not force any of us to keep his commandments. He does not immediately punish the sinner. We are blessed with free agency and can choose right or choose evil.
これだけの事をしてくださっても、主は私たちに戒めを守るよう強制されたりしません。主は罪人をすぐには罰せられません。私たちは自由意志を祝福されており、善も悪も自由に選べるのです。
King Benjamin reminds us of the great blessings we have received and teaches us about our duty to be grateful for those blessings. He teaches us that even if we did everything possible to serve the Lord, we would still not be able to repay the Lord for all his blessings.
ベニヤミン王は私たちが受けているすばらしい祝福を忘れないよう、またそれらの祝福に感謝の気持ちを持つと言う私たちの義務について教えています。彼は私たちが可能な限りを尽くして主に仕えても、受けているすべての祝福にお返しするすることなど出来ないと教えています。
This is not meant to make us feel unworthy. It is not meant to make us give up. It is not meant to make us stop trying.
これは私たちにふさわしくないと感じさせたり、諦めさせるためではありません。私たちに努力を止めさせるためでもありません。
Our goal is not to repay the Lord for his blessings. That is not possible.
私たちの目標は受けている祝福を主にお返しすることではありませんし、そんなことは出来るわけがありません。
Our goal is to show our gratitude to the Lord for his wonderful blessing by doing our best to keep his commandments, by being willing to serve others, by always remembering the source of our blessings.
私たちの目標は主の戒めを守り、他の誰かに仕え、受けている祝福がどこから来るのか忘れないよう最善を尽くすことによって主のすばらしい祝福に感謝の気持ちを表すことです。
This week, let’s remember to show gratitude to our Savior Jesus Christ for all the wonderful blessings that he has given to us. Let’s remember the blessings that we have received. Let’s do our best to show our gratitude by serving others and by keeping the commandments.
今週、私たちの救い主イエス・キリストがくださったすべての祝福に感謝の気持ちを表すことを忘れないようにしましょう。私たちが授かっている祝福を心に留めましょう。他の誰かに仕え、戒めを守ることで感謝の気持ちを表すよう最善を尽くしましょう。
I know that if we do these things, we will be happier. Our trials will seem less difficult. Our love for the Lord will increase.
そうするならば私たちはより幸せになれると知っています。私たちの試練はより耐えやすいものになるでしょう。また主への愛が増すことでしょう。
