まことに、わたしはあなたに言う。あなたはこの世のものを捨てて、この世に勝る世のものを求めなければならない。教義と聖約２５：１０
And verily I say unto thee that thou shalt lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better. Doctrine & Covenants 25:10
Section 25 of the Doctrine & Covenants was given by the Prophet Joseph Smith to his wife, Emma.
教義と誓約25 章は預言者ジョセフ・スミスと妻のエマに与えられたものです。
The same instruction that was given to Emma Smith can be given to us.
エマに与えられた同じ教えは私たちにも当てはまるものです。
In this scripture, Emma is given two commandments.
この聖句ではエマに二つの戒めが与えられました。
First, she is commanded to “lay aside the things of this world”.
最初に、彼女は「この世のものを捨て」るよう戒められました。
Second, she is commanded to “seek for the things of a better”.
二つ目に、彼女は「この世に勝る世のものを求め」るよう戒められました。
We need to follow these same two commandments.
私たちもこの二つの同じ戒めに従う必要があります。
This means that we need to give priority to things that are eternal over things that are just for this life.
この意味は私たちは単にこの世のものでなく永遠の事がらを優先する必要があるということです。
Sometimes we let the things of this world become more important than the things of the gospel. We all have busy lives. We all have many responsibilities. We all have many things that we must do in order to survive in this world.
時々私たちはこの世のものを福音に関わる事がらより大切にしてしまうことがあります。私たちは皆多忙な生活をしています。私たちは多くの責任を受けています。また私たちはこの世で生きていく為になすべき多くの事があります。
Those things are all important.
それらはすべて大切です。
But, just like Emma, we need to always give priority to the things of the gospel. This mortal life is short. Eternity is long. We are to here in this life to be tested and tried. We are here to see if we will “lay aside the things of this world” and “seek for the things of a better”.
しかし丁度エマ（が教えられた）ように私たちは福音に関わることを優先する必要があります。この死すべき世は短いです。（反対に）永遠は長いです。私たちは試され試みられるためにこの世にいます。私たちは「この世のものを捨て」そして「この世に勝る世のものを求め」るかどうか確かめるためにここにいるのです。
That is the big test of this life. Whether it is attending our meetings on Sunday, or accepting a calling to serve, or paying our tithing, or going to the Temple, we need to give priority to the things that are eternal. We each face these decisions each day.
これがこの世の大きなテストなのです。日曜日の集会に参加するとか、奉仕の召しを受け入れるとか、什分の一を収め、神殿に参入するなど、私たちは永遠の事がらを優先する必要があるのです。私たちは毎日こうした決断に直面するのです。
I know that it is important to always put the gospel first in our lives. I know that this is hard to do. But, I know that only by putting the gospel first in our lives can we receive the blessings that we need. I know that, as we put the things of the gospel first in our lives, the things of this world will be taken care of.
私はこの世にあって常に福音を最優先させることが大切だと知っています。それが難しいことだと知っています。しかし、この世にあって福音を最優先させることによってのみ私たちに必要な祝福を受けることが出来ると知っています。私はこの世にあって福音を最優先させるとき、この世の事がらも（主が）面倒見てくださることを知っています。
Let’s work hard to always give priority to the things of the gospel. Let’s remember the Lord’s commandments to Emma. Let’s do our best to keep these commandments each day.
福音にかかわる事がらを常に優先させるよう一生懸命頑張りましょう。主がエマに与えた戒めを思い起こしましょう。毎日これらの戒めを守るために最善を尽くしましょう。
I know that this is the right thing to do. I know that our faith will grow as we keep these commandments. I know that the Lord will bless us if we do these things.
私はこれが正しいことだと知っています。私はこれらの戒めを守るとき信仰が増すことを知っています。私はこれらを行えば主は私たちを祝福してくださると知っています。
