Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of the Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.  Doctrine & Covenants 13:1

On May 15, 1829, one of the great events of the restoration took place.  On that day, John the Baptist, the man who had baptized our Savior, was sent to the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery.  

1829年5月15日、大いなる回復の出来事が起こりました。その日、救い主にバプテスマを授けたバプテスマのヨハネが、預言者ジョセフ・スミスとオリバー・カウドリのもとに遣わされました。

John stated that he was acting under the direction of the ancient apostles Peter, James, and John.  His assignment was to restore to the earth the keys of the Aaronic Priesthood.  On that day, on the banks of the Susquehanna River, John conferred upon Joseph and Oliver the Aaronic Priesthood.  

ヨハネは、古代の使徒ペテロ、ヤコブ、ヨハネの指示のもとで働いていたと述べました。彼の任務はアロン神権の鍵を地上に回復することでした。その日、ヨハネはサスケハナ川のほとりで、ジョセフとオリバーにアロン神権を授けました。

What a glorious day!  

なんと素晴らしい日でしょう！

For centuries, the world had been in darkness.  The Priesthood keys had long since been taken from the earth.  There had been no prophets, no apostles, no Bishops.  There had not been even one Priesthood holder upon the whole earth.  

何世紀にもわたって、世は暗闇の中にありました。神権の鍵は随分長い間、地上から取り去られていました。預言者も使徒もビショップもいませんでした。地上に神権者は一人もいませんでした。

Now, at long last, the Priesthood and its keys had been restored to the earth.  The authority to perform priesthood ordinances was again available.  

しかし、ついに神権とその鍵が地上に回復されました。神権の儀式を執行する権能が再び与えられたのです。

Three important keys are mentioned in this scripture.  First, we are taught that the Aaronic Priesthood holds the keys of the ministering of angels.  Joseph and Oliver would be taught more about this key in the future.

この聖句には３つの重要な鍵が記されています。まず、私たちはアロン神権が天使の働きの鍵を握っていると教えられています。ジョセフとオリバーは、この鍵について将来もっと教えられることになりました。

Second, we are taught that the Aaronic Priesthood holds the keys of the gospel of repentance.  The true gospel of Jesus Christ could now be taught on the earth.  Missionaries would begin to teach the principles of the restored gospel.  

第２に、アロン神権は悔い改めの福音の鍵を握っていると教えられています。イエス・キリストの真の福音は今やこの地上で学べるのです。宣教師は回復された福音の原則を述べ伝えることになりました。

Third, and perhaps most importantly, we are taught that the Aaronic Priesthood holds the keys of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins.  With the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood, authorized representatives of the Lord could now baptize those who had sincerely repented of their sins.  

第３に、おそらく最も重要なこととして、アロン神権は罪の赦しのために水に沈めるバプテスマの鍵を握っていると教えられています。アロン神権の回復によって、主から権能を受けた者が罪を心から悔い改めた人々にバプテスマを授けることができるようになりました。

The long darkness was finally over.  The light of the gospel began to shine forth on the earth.  The prophecies of the ancient prophets began to be fulfilled.  

長い闇はついに終わりました。福音の光が地上に輝き始めました。古代の預言者の予言が成就し始めたのです。

And, unlike previous dispensations, John told Joseph and Oliver that the priesthood would never again be taken from the earth.  

そして、以前の神権時代とは異なり、ジョセフとオリバーに、神権は二度と地上から取り去られることはないだろうと言われました。

This visitation by John is one of the most important events of the Restoration.  With the restoration of priesthood authority, the work of the Lord could begin.  The ordinances of salvation could be administered again.  The gospel could be preached again.  Blessings from Heaven could begin to flow again.

ヨハネの訪問は、回復の最も重要な出来事のひとつです。神権の権能が回復されて、主の業が始まるのです。 救いの儀式は再び執行され、福音は再び述べ伝えられるのです。再び天からの祝福が降り注ぎ始めるのです。

As we go through this week, let’s remember how important this event was.  Let’s remember the great blessings that come from the restoration of the priesthood.  Let’s remember the great sacrifices of the Prophet Joseph Smith in bringing forth the gospel for us in this last dispensation.  Let’s remember what a great blessing it is to receive the ordinances of salvation.

新しい週が始まります。この出来事の重要性を心に留め、神権の回復からもたらされる大いなる祝福を忘れないようにしましょう。この最後の神権時代に私たちのために福音をもたらした預言者ジョセフ・スミスの大きな犠牲を覚えていましょう。救いの儀式を受けることがどんなに大きな祝福であるかを忘れないよう願っています。
