神はそのひとり子を賜わったほどに、この世を愛してくださった。それは御子を信じる者がひとりも滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためだある。ヨハネ３：１６

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

福音の計画のすべてがこの短い聖句の中に含まれています。これはおそらく、聖典の中で最も重要な聖句のひとつでしょう。

The whole of the gospel plan is contained in these few words.  This is perhaps one of the most important verses in all the scriptures.

この短い聖句から、私たちは多くのことを学びます。

We learn many things from this short verse.

私たちはまず、神が私たちの父であり、私たちを愛してくださっていることを学びます。聖文を通して、私たちは神の子供であると教えられています。私たちはみな神の霊の子供であると教えられています。私たちは天の御父が私たちをとても愛しておられることを教えられています。

We learn first of all that God is our Father and that he loves us.  Throughout the scriptures, we are taught that we are children of God.  We are taught that we are all his spirit children.  We are taught that our Heavenly Father loves us very much.

私たちは、イエス・キリストが私たちの兄であり、はじめから世の救い主として選ばれたことを学びます。私たちが幸せになれるのは、救い主の偉大な贖いの犠牲を通してのみです。私たちが悔い改めることができるのは、救い主の贖いの犠牲を通してのみです。私たちが永遠の命という希望を持つことができるのは、救い主の贖いの犠牲を通してのみです。

We learn that Jesus Christ is our elder brother, who was chosen in the beginning to be the Savior of the world.  It is only through the great Atoning Sacrifice of our Savior that we are able to be happy.  It is only through the Atoning Sacrifice of our Savior that we are able to repent.  It is only through the Atoning Sacrifice of our Savior that we can have hope of eternal life.

私たちは戒めを守る人は永遠の命を得るということを学びます。私たちは戒めを守らない者は滅びることも学びます。この場合、「滅びる」とは、天の御父と救い主イエス・キリストの御前から切り離されることを意味します。それは永遠の不幸と悲惨を意味します。

We learn that those who keep the commandment will have eternal life.  We also learn that those who do not keep the commandments shall perish.  In this case, “perish” means to be cut off from the presence of Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ.  It means unhappiness and misery for eternity.

私たちは皆、天の御父の偉大な幸福の計画について教えられてきました。私たちは地上に来る前、まだ霊界にいる間にその計画について教えられました。私たちは計画を受け入れることを選んだ天の御父の霊の子供たちの中にいました。私たちはイエス・キリストを救い主、贖い主として受け入れることを選びました。私たちは真実のために勇敢であることを選びました。

We have all been taught about the great Plan of Happiness of our Heavenly Father.  We were taught about that Plan while we were still in the Spirit World, before we came to earth.  We were among those spirit children of our Heavenly Father that chose to accept the Plan.  We chose to accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer.  We chose to be valiant in the cause of truth.

幸福の計画において、私たちは試練と試しの期間を経験しなければならないと理解していました。私たちの中には試しにしくじる者がいると理解していました。私たちには選択の自由があり、イエス・キリストに従うことを各々が選択しなければならないと理解していました。

We understood that the Plan of Happiness would require us to go through a period of testing and trial.  We understood that some of us might fail the test.  We understood that we have our free agency and that we must each choose to follow Jesus Christ.

私たちは、この地上での試しの間、誰もが間違いを犯すだろうと教えられました。私たちは皆、罪を犯すので天の御父のもとに戻ることはできません。私たちが悔い改めたり、それらの罪の代価を払う方法はありませんでした。

We were taught that during our time of testing here on earth, we would all make mistakes.  Because we all would commit sin, we would not be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father.  There was no way for us to repent or to pay the penalty for those sins.

しかし、大きな愛をお持ちである私たちの兄イエス・キリストは、地上に生を受けたすべての人のために、すべての罪の代価を払うことを申し出ました。私たち一人一人のために偉大な贖罪の犠牲を払うことを申し出ました。それにより、私たちは悔い改めて清くなることができるようになりました。

However, because of his great love, our elder brother Jesus Christ offered to pay the penalty for every sin of every person who ever lived on earth.  He offered to make the great Atoning Sacrifice for each of us.  That would make it possible for us to repent and to become clean.

幸福の計画は、天の御父と救い主イエス・キリストの愛に基づいています。その愛ゆえに、天の御父は預言者と使徒を遣わして教えてくださいます。イエス・キリストが私たち一人一人のために苦しみ、死なれたのはその愛のためです。天の御父がイエス・キリストをわたしたちの贖い主として遣わされたのは，その大きな愛のためです。

The whole Plan of Happiness centers on the love of Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ.  It is because of that love the Heavenly Father sends prophets and apostles to teach us.  It is because of that love the Jesus Christ suffered and died for each of us.  It is because of that great love that Heavenly Father sent Jesus Christ to be our Redeemer.

私たち各々が次の質問をする必要があります。「私は天の御父とイエス・キリストの戒めを守るのに充分必要な愛を持っていますか？」

The question each person needs to ask is, “Do I love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ enough to keep their commandments?”  

新しい週が始まります。このことを常に自問してみましょう。私たちが天の御父と救い主をどれほど愛しているか考えてみましょう。幸福の計画を受け入れるという決意をしましょう。聖約の道を歩むことによって得られる祝福にふさわしくなれるように最善を尽くしましょう。常に戒めを守ることによって、天の御父とイエス・キリストへの愛を示しましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s keep asking ourselves that question.  Let’s think about how much we love them.  Let’s each make the choice to accept the Plan of Happiness.  Let’s do all that we can to be worthy of the blessings that come from staying on the covenant path.  Let’s show our love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by always keeping their commandments.
