天使はわたしに言った。「あなたが異邦人の中で見たそれら後の方の記録は、小羊の十二使徒がら出た初めの記録が真実であることを立証し、またその中から取り去られた分かりやすくて貴い部分を明らかにする。またそれらの記録は、神の小羊が永遠の御父の御子であて、世の救い主であられること、すべての人はこの救い主のみもとに来なければならず、そうしなければ救われないことを、すべての部族、国語の民、民族に知らせる。ニーファイ第一書１３：４０

And the angel spake unto me, saying: These last records, which thou hast seen among the Gentiles, shall establish the truth of the first, which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and shall make known the plain and precious things which have been taken away from them; and shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world, and that all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved.  1 Nephi 13:40

As we continue our study of The Book of Mormon, think about how important it is to our salvation.  

モルモン書の学習を続けるとき、それが私たちの救いにとってどれほど重要なのか考えてみてください。

In this scripture, Nephi is taught by an angel about the importance of The Book of Mormon.  The angel tells Nephi that the “last records” “shall establish the truth of the first”.

この聖句では、ニーファイは天使によってモルモン書の重要性を教えられています。天使はニーファイに「後の方の記録は」「初めの記録が真実であることを立証する」と言いました。

What does this mean?  What are the “last records”?  What are the “first” records?

これは何を意味するのでしょうか？「後の方の記録」とは何でしょうか？「始めの記録」とは何でしょうか？

Nephi was shown in vision people coming to the promised land.  He saw that they carried a book with them. The angel explained to Nephi that the book contained “the record of the Jews” and “the covenants of the Lord”.  The angel told Nephi that the book was a “record like unto the engravings which are upon the plates of brass, save there are not so many”.

ニーファイは、人々が約束の地にやって来るのを啓示で見ました。彼は彼らが一冊の本を携えてやって来るのを見ました。天使はニーファイにこの本は「ユダヤ人の記録」と「主の聖約」が含まれていると説明しました。天使はニーファイに、その本は「真鍮の版に刻まれている記録に似たものであって、ただその量が少ないだけである」と言いました。

This record has come down to us as the Bible.  

この記録は聖書として私たちにやってきました。

However, the angel also warned Nephi that, after the apostles and prophets had written their testimonies and prophecies in the book, wicked men would take many of the “plain and precious things” away from it.

しかし天使はニーファイに使徒や預言者が彼らの証や預言をその本に書いた後、邪悪な人々が「分かりやすくて貴い部分」をそこから取り去ることを警告しました。

Because many of the plain and precious truths of the gospel were taken away by wicked men, it is not as easy to understand.  Because of the loss of those teachings and covenants of the Lord, people have a difficult time believing it. Because of those lost parts, “an exceedingly great many do stumble, yea, insomuch that Satan hath great power over them”.

福音の分かりやすくて貴い多くの真理が邪悪な者によって取り除かれたため、理解するのは簡単ではありません。主の教えと聖約が失われたことで人々はそれを信じるのが難しいのです。それらの失われた部分のために「非常に多くの人がつまずき、まことにサタンがその人々を大いに支配する力を持つ」のです。

But, the angel also explained to Nephi that another record would come forth unto the Gentiles.  The new record will come forth in its purity. The new record will contain those plain and precious truths that were taken away be wicked men.  The new record will thus help to establish the truth of the Bible.

しかし天使はニーファイに別の記録が異邦人の中から出てくることも説明しました。新しい記録は純粋なかたちで世に出てくるでしょう。また邪悪な者によって取り去られた分かりやすくて貴い真理が含まれています。したがって新しい記録は聖書の真実性を確立するのに役立つでしょう。

This “new record” is The Book of Mormon.  It was sealed by the prophet Moroni to come forth in the last days.  It was brought forth by the power of God, through the Prophet Joseph Smith.  

この「新しい記録」とはモルモン書のことです。それは預言者モロナイによって末日まで世に出ることを封印されていました。それは預言者ジョセフスミスを通して神の力によってもたらされました。

Its purpose is to testify that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.  

その目的は、イエスがキリストであり、神の子であることを証しするものです。

The Book of Mormon is the fulfillment of ancient prophecy.  The Book of Mormon is a witness that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world.  The Book of Mormon is proof that God talks to his chosen prophets in our day.  

モルモン書は古代の預言の成就です。モルモン書はイエス・キリストが世の救い主であることを証し、今の時代にも神が選ばれた預言者に話しかけられることの証です。

As we continue our study of The Book of Mormon, may we remember how important it is.  May we remember that it is the word of God to his children in these latter days. May we remember the great miracles that took place to bring it to us.  May we study it diligently, pray about it, and gain a strong testimony of its truthfulness.

モルモン書を続けて読むとき、それがどれほど重要なものか忘れないようにしましょう。それがこの末日に住む神の子供たちへの神のみ言葉であることを覚えていましょう。私たちにそれをもたらすために起こった偉大な奇跡を覚えていましょう。それについて熱心に学び、読んだことについて祈ることでその真実性の強い証を得ることができますように。
