あらゆる思いの中でわたしを仰ぎ見なさい。疑ってはならない。恐れてはならない。教義と聖約６：３６
Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not. Doctrine & Covenants 6:36
This scripture was given by the Lord to Oliver Cowdery. Oliver had met the Prophet Joseph Smith and had started to act as a scribe in helping to translate the Book of Mormon.
この聖句はオリバー・カウドリが主から与えられたものです。オリバーは預言者ジョセフ・スミスと出会いモルモン書の翻訳を手伝う筆記者として働き始めました。
Oliver was told in this revelation that he was to “seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion”.
この啓示でオリバーは「シオンの大義を起して確立するように努める」よう言われました。
Those days were at the very beginning of the great latter-day work. The Church had not yet been organized. The Book of Mormon was not yet translated. There were very few people outside of Joseph Smith’s own family and friends who even knew about the great work that was beginning.
その当時は偉大な末日の業がまさに始まったばかりでした。教会もまだ組織されていませんでしたし、モルモン書も翻訳されていませんでした。ジョセフ・スミスの家族と友人以外ではほんの僅かしかその偉大な業が起こり始めていることを知りませんでした。
It must have seemed like an impossible task to Oliver. If you had been Oliver, what would you have done? What would you have thought?
オリバーにとってそれは不可能なことに思えたことでしょう。あなたがもしオリバーなら何をしたでしょう？何を思ったことでしょう？
Today, we have a well-organized Church, with prophets and apostles to lead us. We have Bishops and Stake Presidents. We have Elders Quorum Presidents, Relief Society Presidents, and Primary Presidents. The Book of Mormon is available in more than 100 languages. The Church has members in almost every country of the world.
今日、私たちには私たちを導いてくれる預言者や使徒がいるよく組織された教会があります。ビショップやステーク会長がいます。長老定員会会長や扶助協会会長、初等協会会長がいます。モルモン書は１００か国語以上で読むことが出来ます。教会は世界のどの国にもメンバーがいます。
How greatly blessed we are! Unlike Oliver, we do not have to start at the very beginning. We have all these things to help us, to strengthen us, to guide us.
私たちはどんなに祝福されていることでしょう。オリバーとは違い私たちは全く最初から始める必要はないのです。私たちには私たちを助け、強め、導いてくれるこれらすべてのものがあるのです。
And yet, like Oliver, we sometimes feel that the assignments we have been given are impossible. We face opposition as we try to live the gospel and share the message of Jesus Christ with those around us. We have many burdens placed on us every day, health issues, employment issues, family issues, and so on.
しかしまたオリバーのように私たちも与えられた務めが不可能だと感じることもあります。私たちは福音に生き、回りにいる人にイエス・キリストのメッセージを分かち合おうとするとき反対に会います。健康の問題、職の問題、家族の問題など私たちには毎日多くの重荷、心の負担があります。
The Lord expects each of us to go forward with faith, just like Oliver. We are also told to “doubt not, fear not”. The Lord is at the head of this great work. It is his work. It will not fail.
主は丁度オリバーのように私たち一人一人にも信仰をもって前進するよう望んでおられます。また「疑ってはならない。恐れてはならない」とも言われています。主はこの偉大なみ業の頭なのです。それは主の業であり失敗に終ることはないのです。
There will always be opposition to overcome. There will always be trials and difficulties. There will always be a need for us to rely on faith, going forward without being able to see all that will happen in the future.
何時でも克服すべき反対の力が存在します。試練や困難は何時でもあります。私たちには信仰に頼り、将来起こることすべてが見えなくても前進しつづける必要が常にあるのです。
As we come to the end of another year, this may be a good time to reflect on the great blessings the Lord has given to each of us.
今年も終わりになりました。主が私たち一人一人に与えてくださった大きな祝福について思い巡らすよい機会ではないでしょうか。
We live in a wonderful time. The Church continues to grow. Amazing technologies are given to us to help spread the gospel message.
私たちは素晴らしい時代に生きています。教会は成長し続けています。驚くべき技術が福音の知らせを広める助けとして私たちに与えられています。
It is not a time for doubt or fear. It is a time for rejoicing. It is a time for thankfulness. It is a time to go forward with even greater faith. It is a time for us to “look to the Lord in every thought”.
疑ったり恐れるときではありません。喜びの時であり感謝に満ちた時なのです。更に大きな信仰をもって前進するときなのです。「あらゆる思いの中で主を仰ぎ見る」時なのです。
Tomorrow begins a brand new year, a year full of promise and hope.
明日、真新しい年が始まります。それは約束と希望が一杯の年なのです。
Let’s make this new year a year without doubt or fear. Let’s make this new year at year in which we “look to the Lord in every thought”. Let’s make this new year the best year ever!
この新しい年を疑いや恐れのない年にしましょう。この新しい年を「あらゆる思いの中で主を仰ぎ見る」年にしましょう。この新しい年を今までにない最高の年にしましょう。
