まことに、まことに、わたしはあなたに言う。あなたがわたしに望むことは、あなたにそのとおりになるであろう。もしあなたが望むならば、あなたはこの時代に大いに善を行う仲立ちとなるであろう。教義と聖約 １１：８
Verily, verily, I say unto you, even as you desire of me, so it shall be done unto you; and, if you desire, you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation. Doctrine & Covenants 11:8
This is a very interesting scripture. It was given by the Lord as a revelation to Hyrum Smith. The exact same scripture was also given to Oliver Cowdery in Section 6 of the Doctrine and Covenants.
これはとてもおもしろい聖句で主が啓示としてハイラム・スミスに与えられたものです。まったく同じ聖句が教義と聖約６章でオリバー・カウドリーにも与えられています。
Just like Hyrum and Oliver, there are important lessons for us in this scripture.
ハイラムとオリバーのように私たちにとっても大切な教えがこの聖句には含まれています。
The first lesson relates to our desire to follow our Savior Jesus Christ.
最初のレッスンは救い主イエス・キリストに従おうという望みに関してです。
Both Hyrum and Oliver were told that “even as you desire of me, so it shall be done unto you”.
ハイラムとオリバーはともに「あなたがわたしに望むことは、あなたにそのとおりになるであろう」と言われました。
This teaches us that our first responsibility is to desire to follow Jesus Christ. We need to desire the blessings of the Lord. We need to desire the faith necessary to keep the commandments.
これが教えることは、私たちのまず最初の務めはイエス・キリストに従おうという望みを持つことです。私たちは主の祝福を望む必要があります。戒めを守るのに必要な信仰を望む必要があります。
If our desire is to keep the commandments and to be good followers of Jesus Christ, we will receive the blessings the Lord has promised to us.
もし私たちの望みが戒めを守り、イエス・キリストの良い従者でいたいというのであれば、私たちは主が約束してくださった祝福を受けるのです。
Blessings are predicated on obedience. First we obey the commandment, then we receive the blessing.
祝福は従順に基づいています。まず戒めを守ることで私たちは祝福を受けます。
The second lesson relates to our responsibility to serve.
二つ目の教えは奉仕する責任に関してです。
Both Hyrum and Oliver were told that they can be “the means of doing much good in this generation”.
ハイラムとオリバーはともに「この時代に大いに善を行う仲立ちとなれる」と言われました。
Notice that it does not say they “absolutely” will be the means of doing much good. It says that “if they desire”, they will be the means of doing much good.
「無条件に」善を行う仲立ちとなるとは言ってないことに注目してください。かわりに「もしあなたが望むならば」善を行う仲立ちとなると言っています。
As in all things in the gospel, we have our free agency. Both Hyrum and Oliver chose to take action and to do much good. They both desired to be the means of doing much good. They showed that desire by their actions in keeping the commandments of the Lord and in fulfilling their assignments.
福音に関する他の事と同じように私たちはすべて自由意思に任せられています。ハイラムとオリバーは行動を起こし善を行うことを選びました。彼らは善を行う仲立ちになりたいと望みました。彼らはその望みを主の戒めを守ることと務めを全うすることで示しました。
In the same way, we can each be the means of doing much good in this generation. We will probably not hold important positions like Hyrum or Oliver, but that is not the requirement. The requirement for us, just like it was for Hyrum and Oliver, is to desire to do good.
同じように私たちもこの時代の人々に善を行う仲立ちとなれるのです。私たちは恐らくハイラムやオリバーのような重要な立場にはないでしょうが、そんな必要はありません。求められることは丁度ハイラムとオリバーのようにただ善を行いたいと望むことなのです。
We can show our desire to do good by serving in our own callings. We can show our desire to do good by keeping the commandments. We can show our desire to do good by being a good friend to someone in need. We can show our desire to do good by being an example of a true follower of Jesus Christ.
私たちは自分の召しを果たすことでその望みを示せます。戒めを守ることで善を行う望みを示せ、助けの必要な誰かの良い友達になることで善を行う望みを示せます。私たちはイエス・キリストの真の従者として模範になることで善を行う望みを示せます。
As we show our desire to do good, we will receive the same blessings that were promised to Hyrum and Oliver. We will be able to accomplish much good in this generation. We will be able to lift the burdens of others. We will be able to bring the light of the gospel into someone’s life. We will be able to be true followers of our Savior.
善を行う望みを示すとき私たちもハイラムとオリバーに約束されたと同じ祝福を受けるのです。私たちはこの時代の人々に多くの善を行えるようになるのです。誰かの重荷を軽くしてあげれます。誰かの人生に福音の光をもたらすことが出来ます。救い主の真の従者となれるのです。
Let’s have a greater desire this week to do good. Let’s have a greater desire to follow Jesus Christ. Let’s have a greater desire to be the means of doing much good in this generation.
今週も善を行おうという強い望みを持って過ごしましょう。イエス・キリストに従う強い望みを持ちましょう。この時代の人々に善を行う仲立ちになる強い望みを持ちましょう。
