For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6

This week, we will once again celebrate the most important event in the history of this world, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

今週、歴史上最も大切なイベントである救い主イエス・キリストの誕生をまたお祝い致します。

Everything that we have that is good comes from our Savior.  He is the reason for our hope and for our joy.

私たちが受けてる良い物はすべて私たちの救い主から来ています。主は私たちの希望と喜びの源です。

Long foretold by prophets of old, the birth of our Savior marks the meridian of time.  Everything that has happened in this world is measured from the time of the Savior’s birth.  

昔の預言者たちが長い間予見してきたように救い主の誕生は時の中間を表しています。すべてこの世で起こる出来事は救い主の誕生の時を基準に測られています。

We know that the birth of the Savior actually occurred in the springtime.  We know this because that is the only time that the shepherds are with their flocks in the fields.  It is too cold for the sheep in December. It is in the spring, when the new lambs are being born, that the shepherds stay with the sheep all night.

私たちは救い主の誕生が実際のところ春に起きたことを知っています。その時期しか羊飼いが羊の群れと原野にいることは無いからです。12月は羊には寒すぎるのです。子羊が生まれ羊飼いが夜通し羊と共にいるのは春の時期なのです。

It was on a clear spring night that the angels announced to the amazed shepherds that the Savior had been born.  Luke records that “and suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” (Luke 2:13-14)

天使が驚いている羊飼いたちに救い主がお生まれになったことを告げたのは晴れた春の夜のことでした。ルカは「すると、突然、この天使に天の大軍が加わり、神を賛美して言った。いと高きところには栄光、神にあれ、地には平和、御心に適う人にあれ」と記録しています。

It was to these poor shepherds that the glorious news of the divine birth was first announced.  The shepherds quickly went into Bethlehem. There, they found “Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger”.  

栄光に満ちた神聖な誕生の知らせが最初にこの貧しい羊飼いたちに知らされたのです。彼らは急いでベツレヘムに向かいました。そこで「マリアとヨセフが赤ん坊と飼い葉桶に横たわっている」のを見つけました。

After seeing with their own eyes that what the angels had told them was true, they spread the word about what they had seen and heard.  “And all they that heard it wondered at those things where were told them by the shepherds”

天使が彼らに告げたことが本当であったことを彼ら自身の目で見た後、彼らが見聞きしたことを人々に伝え広めました。「そして、聞いた者は皆、羊飼いたちの話を不思議に思った」のでした。

On the American continent, as foretold by the Lamanite prophet Samuel, there was a day and a night and a day with no darkness.  Samuel taught the Nephites that this would be the sign that the Savior had been born. Every one of the Nephites was able to witness this great sign.  They knew that the Savior of the world had been born.

アメリカ大陸ではレーマン人の預言者サムエルが預言しているように昼も夜も暗くならない日がありました。サムエルはそれが救い主がお生まれになったしるしであると教えていました。すべてのニーファイ人がこの素晴らしいしるしを目撃したのです。彼らは世の救い主がお生まれになったことを知ったのです。

救い主の誕生を一年の中でいつ祝うのかというのは重要ではありません。祝うのが春であれ冬であれ目的は同じなのです。救い主の偉大な贖いの犠牲があるので私たちは罪から救われるので、私たちは救い主の誕生を祝うのです。救い主の偉大な贖いの犠牲があるので私たちは希望を持てるのです。救い主の偉大な贖いの犠牲があるので私たちには永遠の生命という約束があるのです。

So amid the Christmas trees, the snowmen, the caroling, and the presents, let’s remember the true meaning of the Christmas season.  Let’s remember the birth of the Savior of the world. Let’s remember and give thanks for his great Atonement.

ですからクリスマスツリーや、スノーマン、キャロリング、プレゼントなどで忙しい中にあっても、クリスマスの季節の意味を忘れないようにしましょう。世の救い主の誕生を考えてみましょう。救い主の偉大な贖いの犠牲を覚え、感謝をささげましょう。

Let’s celebrate this Christmas season with thankfulness in our hearts for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

私たちの主であり救い主であるイエス・キリストに心からの感謝をもってこのクリスマスの季節を祝いましょう。
