さて、この地方で羊飼たちが夜、野宿しながら羊の群れの番をしていた。すると主の御使が現れ、主の栄光が彼らをめぐり照したので、彼らは非常に恐れた。御使は言った、『恐れるな。見よ、すべての民に与えられる大きな喜びを、あなたがたに伝える。きょうダビデの町に、あなたがたのために救い主がお生れになった。このかたこそ主なるキリストである。』ルカ２：８－１１

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night.  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring unto good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.  Luke 2:8-11

On that wonderful night, more than 2,000 years ago, the angels announced to the shepherds that the Savior Jesus Christ had been born.  

そのすばらしい夜、2000 年以上もの昔、天使は救い主イエス・キリストが誕生されたことを羊飼いに知らせました。

Since the days of Adam, prophets had testified to the people that Jesus Christ would be born.  They testified that Christ would atone for the sins of all mankind.  They testified that Christ would be the Savior and Redeemer of all men.

アダムのときから預言者はイエス・キリストの誕生を人々に証してきました。彼らはキリストが人類すべての罪を贖うことを証しました。彼らはキリストが全人類の救い主、贖い主になられることを証しました。

The same prophecies are recorded in the Book of Mormon.  Samuel, the Lamanite, was one of those who testified of the coming of the Savior.  Five years before the birth of Jesus Christ, he told them that there would be a day and a night and a day with no darkness as a sign that the Savior had been born.

その同じ預言がモルモン書に記録されています。レーマン人サムエルは救い主の来臨を証しした者の一人でした。イエス・キリスト生誕の５年前に彼は救い主がお生まれになる徴として昼も夜も暗くならない日があると民に伝えました。

Each year, as the Christmas season approaches, the world remembers that great day.  Our thoughts are turned to our Savior.  We remember his birth.  We remember his teachings.  And most important of all, we remember his great atonement.

毎年クリスマスが近づくと世間ではそのすばらしい日を思い起こします。私たちの思いは救い主に向きます。私たちは救い主の誕生を思い、その教えを思い起こします。その中でも最も重要なのは救い主の贖いです。

Born in a humble stable, the Lord of Hosts began his mortal journey.  That journey took him to the Jordan River, where he was baptized by John.  It took him to the Sea of Galilee, where he chose his first apostles.  It took him to the terrible agony of Gethsemane and Calvary.  And finally, on the morning of the glorious resurrection, it led to the empty tomb.

粗末な厩舎で生まれ、万軍の主は死すべき人の道を歩み始められました。その旅は主をヨルダン川に導き、そこでヨハネからバプテスマを受けられました。またガリラヤ湖に導かれ、そこで最初の使徒たちを選ばれました。ゲッセマネとカルバリのひどい苦しみにも導かれました。そして最後に栄光の復活の朝に空の墓へと導かれました。

As we celebrate this Christmas season, may we remember the great atonement of our Savior.  May we look beyond the worldly aspects of the Christmas season and focus on the spiritual meanings.  May we always remember the price that was paid for our transgressions.  

このクリスマスの季節を祝うとき私たちの救い主の偉大な贖いを思い、クリスマスの季節の世俗的な側面ではなく霊的な意味に心を向けましょう。私たちのとがのために支払われた代価を決して忘れないようにしましょう。

May we strive to work harder to keep the commandments.  May we resolve to always follow the path shown to us by the Lord Jesus Christ.  May we always remember that it is only through the great atonement of our Savior that we are able to return to live with our Heavenly Father.

戒めを守るよう、より熱心に努力ができますように。主イエス・キリストによって私たちに示される路に常に従おうと決心できますように。救い主の贖いによってのみ私たちは天の御父のもとに戻り共に住むことが出来ることを忘れないようにしましょう。

Let’s remember the real meaning of the Christmas season.  Let’s enjoy the true joy of the birth of our Savior.  Let’s decide to do better each day to show our love for him.

クリスマスの季節の真の意味を思い起こしましょう。救い主の生誕の真の喜びを楽しみましょう。日々よりよい行いをすると決心し、救い主への愛を示しましょう。

I know that the Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer.  I know that it is only by repenting and by keeping his commandments that we can be saved.  I know that these things are true.

私は主イエス・キリストが私たちの救い主であり贖い主であると知っています。悔い改めと戒めを守ることでのみ私たちは救われると知っています。それが真実だと知っています。
