わたしたちは、善を行うことに、うみ疲れてはならない。たゆまないでいると、時が来れば刈り取るようになる。だから、機会のあるごとに、だれに対しても、とくに信仰の仲間に対して、善を行おうでわないか。ガラテヤ人の手紙６：９－１０

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.  As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.  Galatians 6:9-10

In this scripture the Apostle Paul teaches us about our duty and responsibility as followers of Jesus Christ.

この聖句で使徒パウロは私たちイエス・キリストに従う者の義務と責任について教えています。

He teaches us that we should always look for opportunities to do good.  He uses the example of farming to teach us that we do not receive a reward immediately.  Rather, we will receive our reward “in due season”.  Just like a farmer works hard to plant crops does not “reap” until the harvest time has come, so we too do not “reap” our rewards until the “due season” has come.

彼は常に良い行いをする機会を探し求めるべきだと教えています。彼は農作にたとえてその報いがすぐに来るわけではないと教えています。どちらかといえば「時が来るまで」私たちはその報いを受けないのです。丁度、農夫が一生懸命に植えた穀物も収穫の時が来るまで「刈り取れ」ないように、私たちの報いも「時が来るまで」「刈り取れ」ないのです。

Paul tells us that we should “not be weary in well doing”.  That means that we have a responsibility to do good today, and tomorrow, and the next day.  Every day, there are opportunities for us to do good.

パウロは「善を行うことに、うみ疲れてはならない」と述べています。つまり私たちには今日も明日もその翌日も善を行う責任があるということです。私たちが善を行う機会は毎日あります。

Paul also reminds us that we should “do good unto all men”.  It is often easy to provide service or to help other Church members.  But Paul teaches us that we should be willing to help everyone.  It is not right to limit our service to only those who are members of the Church.  Many people have been brought into the gospel by the service that Church members provided to them.  

パウロは「すべての人に善を行う」よう勧めています。教会の会員を助け、奉仕することは通常やさしいことです。しかしパウロは誰に対しても助けの手を差しのべたいと望むべきだと教えています。私たちは奉仕する対象を教会員のみに制限するのは良くありません。事実多くの人が教会員の奉仕によって教会に導かれています。

Even though we should “do good unto all men”, Paul teaches us that we should especially be willing to provide service “unto them who are of the household of faith”.  Our first responsibility is to help other Church members when they are in need of our help.

私たちは「だれに対しても善を行う」べきではありますが、パウロはとくに「信仰の仲間に対して」仕えたいと望むべきだと教えています。私たちの最初の責任は助けが必要な教会員を助けることです。

We can help others in many ways.  It is easy to serve when there is a big problem, such as when there is a death in a family.  We all are ready to help in a situation like that.  But there are many other opportunities to serve that may not seem as big but are just as important.  

多くの方法で誰かを助けることが出来ます。家族の誰かが亡くなったというような大きな問題がある場合、援助はしやすいでしょう。私たちはそのような状況の人を助ける準備は出来ています。しかし他にもそれほど大きく見えなくても、同じように大切な「奉仕する機会」が多くあります。

Visiting a member who is sick, or who lives alone and is lonely, or who is not able to attend Church meetings very often can be very significant to the one who is served.   Paying our fast offerings and helping to poor to have food to eat is an important service.  Providing transportation to and from Church meetings to someone who would not otherwise be able to attend is an example of doing good.

病人を見舞ったり、一人暮らしで孤独な人、好きな教会の集会にいつも集えない誰かを訪問することはその人にとって、とても意義深いことになりうるのです。断食献金を収め、貧しい人に食べ物を用意してあげることも重要な奉仕です。自分で教会の集会に来れない人に交通の手段を提供することも善い行いの模範です。

We all have opportunities to serve others through our callings as Home Teachers or Visiting Teachers.  For some of our assigned families, that may be the only time they have a gospel message or a prayer given in their home.  

私たちは全員ホームティーチャーや家庭訪問教師などの召しを通して他の誰かに仕える機会があります。担当家族の中にはその時しか福音のメッセージを聞き、家の中でお祈りを捧げる事がない人もいるかもしれません。

Being friendly and open, greeting those who come to our meetings that we don’t know, helping them to feel welcome is another example of doing good.  It may seem a small thing, but it may have eternal benefits.

集会に来る見知らぬ人に友好的で、開放的、また親しく挨拶を交わすことは善い行いの模範です。彼らは暖かく迎えられていると感じるでしょう。

Service takes time.  Doing good sometimes means making small sacrifices.  Helping others is not always easy.

奉仕するには時間が必要です。善い行いは時として少しの犠牲を意味します。他人を助けるのはいつも容易とは言えません。

Remember what Paul teaches us, “be not weary in well doing”.   We will receive a reward for every act of kindness, for every act of service, for every act of “well doing”, no matter how small it may seem.  

パウロの教えた「善を行うことに、うみ疲れてはならない」ことを忘れないでください。私たちの行なう全ての親切、奉仕、「善い行い」には報いがあります。

The Savior taught this same lesson with the words “if you have done it unto one of the least of these, you have done it unto me”.

救い主も同じように「わたしの兄弟であるこの最も小さい者の一人にしたのは、すなわちわたしにしてくれたことなのである」と教えられました。

This week, try to find opportunities to do good.  Try to find opportunities to help others.  Pray for the ability to recognize opportunities and for the determination to take action when you find those opportunities.  

今週、善い行いをする機会を見つけてみましょう。誰かを助ける機会を見つけてみましょう。その機会がはっきりと理解でき、見つかった時にすぐ実行する強い意志が持てるようお祈りしましょう。

I know that we will bless many lives as we do good.  And, as we do good, we will also find that we are blessed as well.

そうすることで私たちは多くの人を祝福できることを私は知っています。またそうすることで私たち自身も祝福を受けることを知るでしょう。
