これらがキリストの言葉でないかどうか、判断してもらいたい。キリストは終わりの日に、力と大いなる栄光を持って、これらがご自分の言葉であることをあなたがたに示されるであろう。そして、あなたがたとわたしとはキリストの法廷で対面する。そうすればあなたがたは、わたしが、弱点があるにかかわらず、これらのことを書き記すようにキリストから命じられたことを知るであろう。ニーファイ第二書３３：１１

And if these are not the words of Christ, judge ye — for Christ will show unto you, with power and great glory, that they are his words, at the last day; and you and I shall stand face to face before his bar; and ye shall know that I have been commanded of him to write these things, notwithstanding my weakness. 2 Nephi 33:11

This scripture was written by Nephi as he closed out his testimony and record.  In this verse, Nephi presents us with a challenge and a promise.

この聖句はニーファイが証と記録を終えようとしていた時に記録したものです。ニーファイはこの聖句を通して私たちにチャレンジと約束を提示しています。

The challenge that Nephi offers is for us to decide whether or not the words that he wrote are the words which Christ commanded him to write.  

ニーファイが提示しているチャレンジとは彼の言葉がキリストが記録するよう命じられたものかどうか判断するようにというものです。

The promise he makes to us is that, at some point in the future, we will stand with Nephi before the judgement bar of Christ.  At that time, we will know that the words Nephi wrote are the words of Christ.

彼はいつか将来私たちもキリストの法廷にニーファイと共に立つと約束しています。その時、ニーファイの書き残した言葉がキリストの言葉であると私たちは知るようになるのです。

So, will we accept the challenge Nephi offers us?  

では、あなたはニーファイのチャレンジを受け入れますか？

How do we do that?

どのようにしますか？

First, we need to read the words that Nephi wrote.  Until we read what he wrote, we cannot decide if they are the words of Christ.  Until we read what he wrote, we cannot make a decision about them. Until we read what he wrote, we cannot accept his challenge.

まず私たちはニーファイの書き残した言葉を読む必要があります。彼が書き残したことを読むまではそれがキリストの言葉だと判断することが出来ません。彼が書き残したことを読むまではそれについて何も判断することが出来ません。彼が書き残したことを読むまでは彼のチャレンジを受け入れることは出来ません。

But it requires more than just casually reading his words.  As Moroni later instructed us, if we want to know of the truthfulness of the words, we have to ask with real intent.  Real intent requires more than just quickly reading through the words that Nephi wrote. 

しかし、それにはただ気軽に彼の言葉を読むこと以上にすべきことがあります。モロナイが後に教えているようにその言葉が真実かどうか知るためには誠心誠意神に尋ねる必要があります。誠心誠意という言葉にはニーファイの言葉をさっと読み流すこと以上にすべきことがあります。

We need to study those words.  We need to ponder those words. We need to do our best to understand those words.

それらの言葉を学ぶ必要があります。深く考えてみる必要があります。それらの言葉を理解するために出来る限りのことをする必要があります。

As we read, study, and ponder, we will be able to make a decision.  We will be able to decide if Nephi was telling the truth. We will be able to decide if those are the words of Christ.

読み、学び、熟考することで私たちは判断することが出来ます。ニーファイが真実を語っているかどうか判断することが出来ます。それらがキリストの言葉であるのか判断できます。

If the words are the words of Christ, what is our responsibility?

さて、それがキリストの言葉であれば私たちは何をすべきでしょう？

How do we treat the words of Christ?  Do we read them one time only? Or do we treat them with great respect and reverence?  Do we believe that they are sacred and holy writings?

キリストの言葉をどのように受け止めたらよいでしょうか？一度読むだけでよいでしょうか？それとも尊敬と敬虔を持って受け止めるべきでしょうか？あなたはそれらが神聖で聖い記録であると信じますか？

Do we read, study, and ponder them each day?

毎日読み、学び、熟考していますか？

I know that the words Nephi wrote are the words of Christ.  I know that those words are true. I know that those words will teach us about Jesus Christ and about his commandments.  I know that they will be of great worth to us as we read, study, and ponder them.

私はニーファイの記録がキリストの言葉だと知っています。それらの言葉は確かです。それが私たちにイエス・キリストと彼の戒めについて教えてくれることを知っています。それを読み、学び、熟考するなら私たちにとって価値のあるものになることを知っています。

As we go through this next week, let’s make time to ready, study, and ponder the words of Nephi and the other prophets of the Book of Mormon.  Let’s treat those words with reverence and respect. Let’s make daily scripture study an important part of our daily life. 

ニーファイやモルモン書の他の預言者の言葉を読み、学び、熟考して今週を過ごしましょう。敬虔と敬う気持ちを持ってそれらの言葉を受け止めましょう。毎日の聖典の勉強を日々の生活の中で大切な時間にしましょう。
