そこで、わたしニーファイが球の中にある指針を見ると、それらは、わたしたちがそれに寄せる信仰と熱意と注意力に応じてはたらいた。ニーファイ第一書１６：２８

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the pointers which were in the ball, that they did work according to the faith and diligence and heed which we did give unto them.  1 Nephi 16:28

Nephi and his family had to travel through a wilderness.  They did not know where to go.  They did not have any maps.  They could not see their final destination.

ニーファイとその家族は荒れ野を旅しなければなりませんでした。でもどこへ行ったらよいかわかりませんでした。彼らは地図を持っていませんでしたし最終目的地もわかりませんでした。

The Lord knew that it would be a hard journey for them.  He knew that they did not know how to get to their destination.  So the Lord made a Liahona for them.  

主は彼らにとって辛い旅になることを知っておられました。主は目的地にどうやって行き着くかご存知でした。それで彼らのためにリアホナを作られたのです。

We are told that the Liahona worked like a compass.  It showed them the best way to go.  It was their guide through their journey.

私たちはリアホナが磁石（コンパス）のように動くと教えられています。それは彼らに最善な道を教えてくれ彼らの旅の間中、道しるべとなりました。

But there was one unusual thing about the Liahona.  In this scripture, Nephi explains that the Liahona only worked if they were faithful and followed the directions that they were given by the Liahona.

しかしリアホナにはひとつ変わっていることがありました。この聖句でニーファイは彼らが信仰深くリアホナが示した方向へ従うときにのみ動いたと説明しています。

If they were faithful, the Liahona helped them find the best way to travel.  If they did not follow the directions, the Liahona did not help them and they had problems.

彼らの信仰が深ければリアホナは進むべき最良の道を教えてくれました。また彼らがその指示に従わなければリアホナは彼らを助けず問題に遭遇しました。

There is a great message here for us in our own lives.

ここには私たち自信の人生にとって、すばらしいメッセージがこもっています。

We are all on a “journey through the wilderness” of mortal life.  We do not know which way to go.  We cannot see our final destination.

私たちは皆、死すべき世の「荒れ野の旅路」にいます。私たちはどちらに行ってよいかわからず最終目的地が見えません。

The Lord knew that our own journey will be hard for us.  He knew that we need help to get to our destination.  

主は私たちの旅路は辛いものであることをご存知であり、私たちの目的地にたどり着くのに助けが必要なこともご存知でした。

So the Lord has given us the scriptures, prayer, prophets and apostles, bishops, and many other things to help guide us safely to our destination.  All these become our own personal “Liahona”.

それで主は私たちに聖典や祈り、預言者や使徒、ビショップ、ほかにも私たちが目的地へ安全にたどり着けるよう多くの助けをくださいました。これらすべては私たちの個人的な「リアホナ」になるのです。

But just like Nephi and his family, our own “Liahona” will only help us if we are follow the directions we are given.  

しかし丁度ニーファイとその家族のように、私たちの「リアホナ」も示された指示に従うときにのみ助けてくれるのです。

If we are faithful, our “Liahona” will guide us safely back to our Heavenly Father.  

もし信仰深くあれば私たちの「リアホナ」は天の御父のもとに安全に戻れるよう導いてくれます。

If we are not faithful, our “Liahona” cannot help us.

もし信仰深くいなければ私たちの「リアホナ」は私たちを助けることはできません。

As we journey through this life, sometimes we think we are smarter than our “Liahona”.  We think our way is better.  We do not follow the directions of our “Liahona”.

私たちがこの人生を旅するとき、私たちは時折「リアホナ」より賢いと思うことがあります。自分の思う方法の方が良いと思い、自分の「リアホナ」の指示に従わないのです。

When that happens, just like with Nephi and his family, we do not progress in our journey.  We have problems.  We have more trials.  

その様な時、丁度ニーファイとその家族にあったように私たちは人生の旅路で進歩がありません。私たちは問題やもっと多くの試練に遭遇します。

When we asked the Lord for guidance, we need to be faithful and follow the directions that we are given.   It does not help if we ask for guidance but do not follow the directions that we are given.  We must go forward with faith.

私たちは主に導きを求めるとき信仰深くあり、与えられる指示に従わねばなりません。もし導きを求めても与えられる指示に従わねば何の助けも受けません。私たちは信仰を持って前進しなければならないのです。

I know that we can safely journey through this mortal life if we will follow the directions that we are given.  I know that the Lord loves each one of us. 

私はもし私たちが与えられる指示に従うなら、この死すべき世を安全に旅することが出来ると知っています。主は私たち一人ひとりを愛しておられることを知っています。

I know that the Lord wants each of us to have the safest and easiest journey.  I know that he will guide us and direct us.  All we have to do is to follow the directions that we receive.

主は私たちに最も安全で容易な路を通って欲しいと望んでおられることを知っています。主は私たちに指示を与え導いてくださると知っています。私たちがすべきことは只私たちが受ける指示に従うことだけなのです。   

Let’s work hard this week to become more like Nephi.  Let’s work hard to always follow the directions given to us by our own “Liahona”.  Let’s have greater faith to always follow our Savior Jesus Christ.  If we do this, I know that we will be guided safely back to our Heavenly Father.

今週もニーファイのようになる努力を頑張ってしましょう。自分の「リアホナ」から与えられる指示にいつも頑張って従いましょう。救い主イエス・キリストにいつも従えるよう強い信仰を持ちましょう。それらを行えば天の御父のもとに安全に導かれることを知っています。
