また、あなたは、世の汚れに染まらずに自らをさらに十分に清く保つために、わたしの聖日に祈りの家に行って、聖式をささげなければならない。まことに、この日はあなたがたの労苦を解かれて休み、いと高い方に礼拝をささけるようにさだめられた日だからである。

And that thou mayest more fully keep thyself unspotted from the world, thou shalt go to the house of prayer and offer up thy sacraments upon my holy day; for verily this is a day appointed unto you to rest from your labors, and to pay thy devotions unto the Most High. Doctrine and Covenants 59:9-10
The commandment to keep the Sabbath Day holy is not something new. This commandment was given to our first parents, Adam and Eve. They were told that, just as God had made the world in six days and on the seventh day he rested, so they should remember the seventh day, to keep it holy.
安息日を聖く保つと言う戒めは目新しいものではありません。この戒めは私たちの最初の両親であるアダムとイブに与えられました。神はこの世を6日で創られ、7日目に休まれたように彼らも7日目を覚えて聖日としなさいと命じられました。
The commandment to keep the Sabbath Day holy was given again to Moses on Mt. Sinai as one of the 10 Commandments.
安息日を守るという戒めはシナイ山で十戒の一つとしてモーセに与えられました。
This commandment has been repeated in our day, for us in our own time, as recorded in Section 59 of the Doctrine & Covenants.
この戒めは私たちのこの時代にも教義と聖約、第59章に記録されているように繰り返し与えられています。
In this revelation given to the Prophet Joseph Smith, we are taught about the importance of keeping the Sabbath Day holy.
この預言者ジョセフ・スミスに与えられた啓示で私たちは安息日を守ることの大切さを教えられています。
We are taught several important things in this short verse.
私たちはこの短い聖句で幾つかの大切なことを教わっています。
First, we are commanded to “go to the house of prayer”. This means that we need to attend our various Church meetings on the Sabbath Day. We need to attend all of our meetings, but we especially need to attend Sacrament Meeting.
まず、私たちは「祈りの家に行く」よう戒められています。それは安息日の各集会に出席すべきだという意味です。私たちはすべての集会に出席すべきですが聖餐会は特に大切です。
Attending Sacrament Meeting is the second thing that we are commanded to do. We are commanded to “offer up thy sacraments upon my holy day”. We need to prepare for and to partake of the sacrament each week. Preparing for the sacrament gives us the opportunity to reflect on what we have done during the previous week and to repent of those things that were not right.
聖餐会に出席することは二番目に大切な戒めです。「わたしの聖日に聖式をささげなければならない」と私たちは戒めを受けています。毎週よく準備し聖餐をとる必要があります。聖餐をとる準備をすることで前週の行いを思い返し、良くない行いを悔い改める機会をもたらしてくれます。
Third, we are commanded to “rest from our labors” on the Sabbath Day. That does not mean that we should do nothing at all on the Sabbath Day. Sometimes, the Sabbath Day is the busiest day of the week. It means that we “rest” from our normal daily work.
三番目に、安息日には「あなたがたの労苦を解かれて休む」よう戒められています。けれどもそれは安息日に何もしてなならないということではありません。時折安息日が週で一番忙しい日になることもあります。その意味は普段の働きから休むということです。
Fourth, we are commanded to “pay our devotions unto the Most High”. We do this in several ways. We do this by attending our Church meetings. We do this by serving in our callings. We do this by helping others through home teaching and visiting teaching visits.
四番目に私たちは「いと高い方に礼拝をささけるよう」戒められています。幾つかの方法でそれを行います。教会の集会に出席すること、召しを遂行すること、そしてホームティーチングや訪問教師を通して他の人を助けることなどです。
Why do we do all these things?
何故私たちはこれらを行うのでしょう？
We are commanded to do all these things so that we may “more fully keep thyself unspotted from the world”. In other words, by honoring the Sabbath Day, we can repent of our sins. By honoring the Sabbath Day, we can keep ourselves from temptations. By honoring the Sabbath Day, we can become better followers of our Savior Jesus Christ.
「世の汚れに染まらずに自らをさらに十分に清く保つために」これらすべてのことを行うよう戒められています。言い換えると安息日を尊ぶことで私たちの罪を悔い改めれるのです。安息日を尊ぶことで私たちは誘惑から自身を守ることができるのです。安息日を尊ぶことで救い主イエス・キリストのより良い従者となれるのです。
I know that great blessing come by keeping the Sabbath Day holy. We will have greater spiritual strength. We will be happier. We will find greater peace.
安息日を聖く保つことから来る大きな祝福を私は知っています。私たちはより強い霊的な力を持てるのです。より幸せになり、より平安を見つけることができるのです。
Let’s all remember the importance of keeping the Sabbath Day holy. Let’s attend all of our Church meetings each week. Let’s do those things that will lead to greater happiness and peace in our lives.
安息日を聖く保つことの大切さを忘れないようにしましょう。毎週教会のすべての集会に出席しましょう。私たちの生活により大きな幸せと平安をもたらすこれらすべてのことを行いましょう。
