Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement.  1 Corinthians 1:10

In his first letter to the Corinthians (actually, it is at least his second letter), we see that Paul struggled with the same challenges we see over and over again in the Book of Mormon.  The members of the Church in Corinth brought divisions and contentions into the Church.  This is the same problem that many of the prophets faced in their preaching to the Nephites.  

サタンが使う道具の一つは、人々の間に分裂と争いを起こさせることです。もしサタンが教会員に異なる教義を信じさせることができれば教会員の心は固くなり、そして信仰は低下するのです。

One of Satan’s tools is to stir up divisions and contentions among people.  If he can make the members of the Church start to believe in different doctrines, their hearts will be hardened and their faith will decrease.

今日も状況は変わりません。それどころか、インターネットによって異なる意見が迅速かつ広く行き渡るようになった今日、争いや分裂はかつてないほど悪化しています。政治的、社会的な問題では、それが最も顕著に見られます。どこの国でも、自分たちの意見に同意するよう求める声が、私たちの注意を引こうとひしめき合っています。

Today, things are no different.  In fact, with the Internet allowing different opinions to be quickly and widely distributed, contentions and divisions are worse today than ever before.  We see this most clearly in political or social issues.  It seems that strident voices everywhere are clamoring for our attention, demanding that we agree with their opinions.

ニーファイ人を滅ぼす結果となったのは分裂と争いでした。ペテロとパウロの時代に教会を滅ぼしたのも分裂と争いでした。この時代の初期の聖徒たちに大きな問題を引き起こしたのも分裂と争いでした。

It was divisions and contentions that helped to destroy the Nephites.  It was divisions and contentions that helped to destroy the Church in the days of Peter and Paul.  It was divisions and contentions that caused big problems among the early Saints in this dispensation.  

私たちは分裂や争いに免疫がありますか？ 今日、私たちは預言者や使徒たちを支持し支えていますか？地元の指導者を支持し支えていますか？主によって啓示された教会の教義を支持し支えていますか？

Are we immune to divisions and contentions?  Do we support and sustain the prophet and apostles today?  Do we support and sustain our local leaders?  Do we support and sustain the doctrines of the Church as revealed by the Lord?

それとも、噂や憶測、ゴシップを広める手助けをするでしょうか？教会の公式な教義よりも，インターネットで見つけたコメントに注意を払うでしょうか。指導者や他のワード会員、あるいは中央指導者が自分の気に入らない言動をした場合、それを批判するでしょうか。

Or, do we help to spread rumors, speculations, or gossip?  Do we give more attention to comments we find on the Internet than we do to the official doctrines of the Church?  Do we criticize our leaders, other ward members, or even General Authorities if they say or do something that we don’t like?

私たちの注意を喚起するあらゆる声の中から何が真実であるかを判断するのは時として難しいかもしれません。しかし、私たちには良い知識があります。それは真理と導きのために頼ることができる唯一の情報源があるということです。私たちは、盲目的に教会の指導者に従うことを期待されているわけではありません。

While it can sometimes be hard to determine what is true from all the voices that demand our attention, the good news is that there is one source we can turn to for truth and guidance.  We are not expected to follow the leadership of the Church blindly.

President Brigham Young taught us that we should never accept any doctrine until we have pondered over it and prayed about it.  It is our own responsibility to seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost in all things.  Moroni taught us this same principle.  

生ける預言者や使徒を持つことは、大きな祝福です。それは、時代を超えて何百万人もの天父の子供たちが望んできた祝福です。今、時満ちる神権時代にあって、回復が進むにつれて、私たちには真の教義を教えてくれる預言者と使徒がいます。彼らが教える教義と原則を学び、それについて熟考し、祈り、何が真実であるかについて自分自身の証を得ることは私たちの責任です。

Having living prophets and apostles is a great blessing.  It is a blessing that millions of Heavenly Father’s children have wished for throughout the ages.  Now, in the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times, as the Restoration proceeds, we do have prophets and apostles to teach us true doctrine.  It is our responsibility to study the doctrines and principles that they teach, ponder and pray about them, and gain our own testimony of what is true.

真理の証を得れば、私たちの間に分裂や争いはなくなります。真の聖約の道はただ一つです。イエス・キリストの真の福音はただ一つです。真の幸福の計画はただ一つです。

As we gain a testimony of truth, there will be no divisions or contentions among us.  There is only one true covenant path.  There is only one true gospel of Jesus Christ.  There is only one true Plan of Happiness.

新しい週が始まります。争いはサタンの策略のひとつであることを心に留めて過ごしましょう。ワード内や家族内で抱いているかもしれない争いを捨て去りましょう。真の教義を学び、それについて祈り、聖霊によって教えを受ける責任を受け入れましょう。信仰と教義において一致しましょう。救い主イエス・キリストによりよく従いましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s remind ourselves that contentions are some of Satan’s tricks.  Let’s put away any contentions that we may have within our ward or within our own family.  Let’s accept our responsibility to learn true doctrine, to pray about it, and to be taught by the Holy Ghost.  Let’s be united in faith and in doctrine.  Let’s be better followers of our Savior Jesus Christ.
