まことに、人の子らが主を信じる信仰を働かせれば、主は彼らのために、御心のままに何でもおできになります。そのことを忘れたのは、どういうわけですか。主に忠誠を尽くそうではありませんか。ニーファイ第一書７：１２

Yea, and how is it that ye have forgotten that the Lord is able to do all things according to his will, for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise faith in him?  Wherefore, let us be faithful to him.  1 Nephi 7:12

In this scripture, Nephi is talking with his older brothers, Laman and Lemuel.  Laman and Lemuel were complaining again about leaving their home in Jerusalem.  They wanted to stay there.  They did not want to do what the Lord has commanded them to do.

この聖句ではニーファイが兄のレマンとレムエルに語っています。彼らは又もやエルサレムの家を離れることに文句を言っています。彼らはそこに留まりたく、主が命じられたことをしたくなかったのです。

Nephi tries again to teach them that the Lord knows what is best for each of us.  He reminds his brothers that the Lord can do all things.  He tries to teach them that they need to be faithful and keep the commandments.

ニーファイは主が私たち一人一人に何が良いのかをご存知であると教えようとしました。そして主はどんなことでもお出来になることを思い起こさせ、兄たちが信仰深く戒めを守る必要があることを教えようとしました。

Sometimes, in our own lives, we act like Laman and Lemuel.  We don’t want to do what the Lord has asked us to do.  We want to do what we think is right.  We want to do things that seem easy to us.

私たちも時折、レマンとレムエルのように振舞います。主が私たちにするようにと言われたことをしたくなかったり、自分が正しいと思うことをしたかったりします。楽に思えることをしたいのです。

We all have challenges in our lives.  Some challenges are over quickly.  Some challenges last for months or even years.  Nephi and his family spent more than 8 years in the wilderness.  

私たちは皆人生で試練を受けます。ある試練はすぐ終わり、またある試練は数ヶ月とか数年続くこともあります。ニーファイと家族は荒れ野で８年以上も過ごしました。

When those trials and challenges come, we need to remember the example of Nephi.  We need to remember his counsel to us.  We need to remember that the Lord knows what will be best for each of us.

試練や苦難を受ける時ニーファイの模範を思い出すことが必要です。彼の助言や、主が私たちにとって何が最善なのかご存知であることを心に留める必要があります。

We came to this life to be tried and tested.  We came here to see if we would be faithful.  We came here to see if we will keep all the commandments.  We knew that this would be a difficult experience.  

私たちは試練を受け試されるためにこの世に来ました。忠実でいられるか、すべての戒めを守れるか見られるためにこの世に来ました。私たちはこれが難しい経験になることを知っていました。

But the Lord will never leave us alone.  He will always bless us and guide us through our trials.

しかし主は私たちを決して一人にはされませんし、私たちが試練のとき常に祝福し導いてくださいます。

The important thing to remember from Nephi’s teaching is that we will receive all the promised blessings “if is to be that they exercise faith in him”.  

ニーファイの教えの中で覚えておくべき最も大切なことは、「主を信じる信仰を働かせれば」約束された祝福を受けるということです。

Our responsibility is to have faith in the Lord.  He loves each of us.  He knows each of us.  He will guide us and help us, if we do our part.  

私たちの責任は主を信じる信仰を持つことです。主は私たち一人ひとりをご存知であり愛しておられます。主は私たちの方でなすべきことをすれば助け導いてくださいます。

As we travel through this rocky road of life, let us remember to be like Nephi.  Let us remember to have faith in the Lord.  Let us remember that the Lord knows all things.

この険しい人生の路を旅するときニーファイのようになり、主を信じる信仰を持ち、主はすべてのことをご存知であるということを心に留めておきましょう。

I know that we will be guided through our trials if we are faithful.  I know that our trials are difficult and that some of our burdens are very heavy.  But I also know that the Lord knows what we are experiencing.  I know that the Lord will bless us and help us.  

私は試練の中、信仰深く忠実であれば導いていただけことを知っています。私は受ける試練は辛く、時にその重荷は非常に重いことも知っています。しかし主は私たちが経験する（すべての）ことをご存知であることや、主が私たちを助け祝福してくださることを知っています。
