For I, the Lord, have put forth my hand to exert the powers of heaven; ye cannot see it now, yet a little while and ye shall see it, and know that I am, and that I will come and reign with my people. Doctrine & Covenants 84:119
There is a great promise given to us in this scripture. This promise gives us great hope and comfort.
この聖句は私たちにすばらし約束を与えています。その約束は私たちにとって大きな希望と安らぎとなっています。
At the end of this revelation given to the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Lord teaches us that great things will happen. The Lord says, “For I, the Lord, have put forth my hand to exert the powers of heaven”.
預言者ジョセフスミスに与えられたこの啓示の終わりで、主は偉大なことが起こると教えておられます。主は「主なる私は、天の力を働かせるためにわたしの手を伸べた」と言われました。
What does that mean?
それはどのような意味でしょう？
In English, the word “to exert” means to “put into vigorous action”, or “to use great influence”.
英語の「to exert」は「精力的に行動を起こす」とか「大きな影響力を使う」といった意味があります。
So, in this scripture, when the Lord says that he will “exert the powers of heaven”, that means that the Lords work will roll forth with great power. This is the Lord’s work and he will make sure that it goes forward. Nothing can stop it.
ですからこの聖句で主が「天の力を働かせる」と言われたのは、主の業が大きな力をもって進められるという意味があります。これは主の業であり、主はそれが前進するよう見守られます。何ひとつそれを止めることはできないのです。
It also says in this scripture “ye cannot see it now”.
またこの聖句で「今はそれを見ることはできない」とも言ってます。
What does that mean?
それはどういった意味なのでしょう？
It means that the Lord moves his work forward by small and simple things. It means that we must have faith. It means that we must do our best to help.
主は小さくまた単純なことによって主の業を推し進められるということです。私たちは信仰を持たねばならず、また最善を尽くして主の業を手助けしなければならないと言うことです。
Think of a large sailing ship. No one can see the wind, but the wind can move even a large ship across the oceans. There is great power in the wind.
大きな帆船を思い浮かべてください。誰も風を見ることは出来ませんが、その風は大きな船ですら海の向こう側へと動かすことができます。風には偉大な力があります。
So it is in the gospel. We cannot see all that the Lord does, but we can see how his work moves forward, just like the large ship. As we see the work move forward, we begin to understand how powerful the “powers of heaven” are.
福音も同じです。私たちは主がなさるすべてを見ることは出来ませんが、主の業がちょうど大きな船のように前進するのを見ることは出来ます。私たちはその業が進んでいくのを見るとき、「天の力」がどれほど大きいか理解することが出来ます。
Someday, the Lord will come in great power and glory. We are told that at that day “every knee shall bow and every tongue confess”. When that day comes, everyone will see and know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, our Savior and Redeemer.
いつの日か、主は大きな力と栄光を持って来られます。その日には「すべてのひざがかがみ、すべての舌が贖ない主の御前で告白する」ことを私たちは知っています。その日が来ると誰もがイエス・キリストが神の子であり私たちの救い主、贖い主であることを実際に見て知るのです。
What is our duty?
では私たちにはどのような義務があるのでしょう？
Our duty is to do our best in our own assignment, helping to move the “great ship” forward. Like the wind, by our own small actions, we can help move the work of the Lord forward. It is by all of those small and simple actions that the work of the Lord progresses.
私たちの義務は自分の召しに最善を尽くし、「大きな船を」前進させるお手伝いをすることです。風のように、小さな行いにより私たちは主の業を推し進めるお手伝いが出来るのです。それらの小さく簡単な行動によって主の業は前進するのです。
It is our duty to serve in our own callings, to serve those in need, to be friends with everyone, to be good examples of followers of Jesus Christ.
私たちの義務は自分の召しを果し、助けの必要な人を助け、誰とでも友達になり、イエス・キリストに従うものの模範になることです。
I know that we can all help move the work forward. Each of us, in small and simple ways, has the opportunity to help. Each of us has a duty to help. Each of us can be part of the wind that moves the ship across the ocean.
私たちは誰でもその業が前進するのをお手伝い出来るのです。私たちには小さく簡単な手段で、お手伝いする機会があります。私たちにはそれを助ける義務があります。私たちは大きな船を大海の向こう側に動かす風の一つとなれるのです。私はそのことを知っています。
Let’s try harder this week to do all that we can to help serve in the Lord’s kingdom. Let’s try harder to be good examples. Let’s try harder to help others find the truths and blessings of the gospel. Let’s do our best!
今週、主の王国で主の業をお手伝いするようすべての事を頑張って行ないましょう。よりよい模範となりましょう。他の誰かが福音の真実や祝福を見いだすお手伝いをしましょう。最善を尽くしてみましょう。
