それで果樹園の主人は僕たちに言った。「行って、果樹園で力を尽くして働きなさい。これが、わたしが果樹園に養いを与える最後の時である。終わりはすでに近く、時節はすぐに来る。しかし、あなたがたがわたしと一緒に力を尽くして働くならば、わたしがもうすぐやって来る時節に備えてわたし自身のために実を蓄える、その実によってあなたがたは喜びを得るであろう。」　ヤコブ書５：７１

And the Lord of the vineyard said unto them: Go to, and labor in the vineyard, with your might.  For behold, this is the last time that I shall nourish my vineyard; for the end is nigh at hand, and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ye shall have joy in the fruit which I shall lay up unto myself against the time which will soon come.  Jacob 5:71

In the 5th chapter of Jacob, Jacob quotes from an older writing of the prophet Zenos.  Zenos wrote about the “tame and wild” olive trees. He used the example of the tame and the wild trees to teach us about the Lord’s plan for this earth.  In his teaching, Zenos uses the image of a vineyard to represent the house of Israel.

The truths that Zenos teaches are still important to us today.  In fact, the most important part of his teaching is specifically for us and our day.

ゼノスの教えた真理は今日の私たちにも大切なものです。事実、最も大切なところは彼の教えが特に今日の私たちのために述べられていることです。

We know that this is the last dispensation.  Many of the ancient prophets have prophesied and testified of the great events that will take place during the last dispensation.  We are living in that very time.

私たちは今が最後の神権時代であることを知っています。多くの古代の預言者が最後の神権時代に起こる多くの大いなる事を預言しています。私たちは正にその時に生きているのです。

We have been told that the Lord will restore all things during this dispensation.  The Prophet Joseph Smith was called to open the dispensation and to restore the gospel, the priesthood, The Book of Mormon, and many other important truths to the earth.  Today, we see the restoration of all things continue as new and important revelations are given to the Church.

私たちは主がこの神権時代にすべてを回復されることを教わっています。預言者ジョセフ・スミスはこの神権時代を開き、福音や神権、モルモン書、他にも多くの真理をこの地上に回復するよう召されました。私たちは今も教会に新しく重要な真理が続けて啓示されていることを目にしています。すべてのことが回復され続けているのです。

Given that we know all these things, what is our duty and responsibility?

これらすべてのことを知っていますが、私たちがすべき義務や責任は何でしょうか？

Are we the Lord’s servants?  If we are, our duty and responsibility is clearly stated in the writings of Zenos.

私たちは主の僕ですか？そうであれば私たちの義務や責任はゼノスの言葉によって明確に示されています。

We are to “go to, and labor in the vineyard, with our might”.  This is our call to action.

私たちは「行って、果樹園で力を尽くして働く」必要があります。これが私たちが行動すべき召しなのです。

“Go to” is a command from the Lord.  It means, “start, right now. Do not delay”.  

「行って」とは主の誡めです。それは「今すぐ始めなさい。引き延ばしてはなりません」という意味です。

And what are we to do?  We are to “labor in the vineyard”.

では私たちは何をすべきでしょう？「果樹園で働く」必要があります。

How are we to do that?  We are to labor “with our might”.

どのようにそれを行いますか？私たちは「力を尽くして」働く必要があります。

This is very plain and easy to understand.  Our duty and responsibility is to do our best, to work hard, to do whatever assignment is given to us in the Lord’s vineyard.  

それはとても簡単で分かりやすいです。私たちの義務と責任は最善を尽くすこと、熱心に働き、主の果樹園で与えられるアサイメントを果たすことです。

Is the Lord’s “vineyard” restricted just to the Church?  Everyone, not just those who are members of the Church is a son or daughter of loving heavenly parents.  Father wants all of his children to return successfully to him.  

主の「果樹園」は教会だけに制限されているでしょうか？教会の会員だけでなくすべて者が愛する天の両親の息子、娘なのです。天父はすべでの子供に無事に天父の元に戻ってほしいと願っておられます。

Our duty and responsibility has been made very clear by President Russell M. Nelson.  He has taught us very clearly that our duty is to help gather Israel, on both sides of the veil.  

ラッセル・Ｍ・ネルソン大管長は明確に私たちの義務と責任を教えています。彼は明確に私たちの義務は幕の両側においてイスラエルの集合を助けることだと教えています。

If we labor with our might, if we work as hard as we can, if we are obedient servants, the promise of the Lord is “ye shall have joy”.  What greater blessing is there than to have joy?

もし力を尽くして働くならば、もし力の限りを尽くすならば、もし忠実な僕であるならば、主の約束は「あなたがたは喜びを得るであろう」と言われています。喜びを得ること以上の祝福があるでしょうか？

As we go through this week, let’s remember that we have a duty and a responsibility, as taught by Zenos, by Jacob, by President Nelson, and by many other prophets, to labor with our might in the Lord’s vineyard.  Let’s do our best to be good workers. Let’s be worthy to receive the great blessings that are promised by the Lord.

私たちにはゼノスやヤコブ、ネルソン大管長、他多くの預言者が教えている主の果樹園で力を尽くして働くという義務や責任があります。そのことを覚えて来週を過ごしましょう。よい働き手となるよう最善を尽くし、主が約束された大いなる祝福が受けれるようふさわしくありましょう。
