彼らの神であり贖い主である主は、彼らに先立って進み、昼は彼らを導き、夜は彼らに光を与え、人が受けて益になるあらゆることを彼らのためにしてくださいました。そのようにして導かれたにみかかわらず、彼らは心をかたくなにし、思いをくらまして、モーセとまことの生ける神をののしりました。ニーファイ第一章１７：３０
And notwithstanding their being led, the Lord their God, their Redeemer, going before them, leading them by day and giving light unto them by night, and doing all things for them which were expedient for man to receive, they hardened their hearts and blinded their minds, and reviled against Moses and against the true and living God. 1 Nephi 17:30
In this scripture, Nephi is talking to his brothers, Laman and Lemuel. He reminds them of the story of the Israelites in the desert, who were led by Moses.
ニーファイはこの聖句の中で兄弟のレーマンとレムエルに語っています。イスラエルの民が荒野にいた時モーセに導かれたことを忘れないように語っています。
In this scripture, Nephi reminds his brothers, and reminds us also, about the many great things the Lord did for the people of Israel while they were in the desert. But, even after receiving such great blessings from the Lord, the people rejected the counsel of Moses and refused to follow the commandments of the Lord.
この聖句ではニーファイが彼の兄弟や私たちにもイスラエルの民が荒れ野にいた時、主がなさった素晴らしい出来事を忘れないよう教えています。しかし、主から多くの素晴らしい祝福を受けた後でも、人々はモーセの勧告を拒否し主の戒めに従うことを拒んだのです。
Today, when we read about this, we sometimes think, “How foolish those people were. They received such wonderful blessings from the Lord, but still refused to listen to what Moses, the prophet of the Lord taught them. We would never be like that.”
今日、私たちがこれを読むとき「彼らは何と愚かだったのだろう。彼らはそんなに素晴らしい祝福を主から受けていながらなぜ主の預言者、モーセの教えを拒んだのか。自分ならそんなことは決してしないだろう。」と考えるでしょう。
But are we really any different?
けれど私たちは彼らと大して変わらないのではありませんか？
Last week, we were able to listen to the prophets and apostles that the Lord has called in our day to teach and to lead us. We heard many messages and were taught many things. Just like Moses, our modern day prophets and apostles receive inspiration and instruction from the Lord. They are given the assignment to teach us correct doctrine.
先週、この時代に主が私たちを教え導くために召された預言者や使徒の言葉を聞きました。多くのメッセージを聴き沢山の教えを受けました。丁度モーセのように現代の預言者や使徒も主から霊感や指示を受けるのです。彼らは私たちに正しい教義を教え伝える任務を受けているのです。
What did you learn from General Conference? What did the Lord’s prophets and apostles teach you during this conference? What is one thing that you will you do better now because you were taught correct doctrine?
あなたは総大会から何を学びましたか？主の預言者や使徒は大会を通してあなたに何を教えましたか？正しい教義を教わったことであなたは何が一つ今までより良くできることがありますか？
Did you listen to as much of General Conference as you were able to? Did you prepare prayerfully to listen to the messages? Were you ready to be taught by the Holy Ghost?
あなたは出来る限り努力して総大会を視聴しましたか？メッセージを聴くために信仰と祈りをもって準備しましたか？あなたは聖霊を通して教えられる準備が出来ていましたか？
Or did you “harden your heart and blind you mind”?
それとも「心をかたくなにし、思いをくらまして」いましたか？
If we do not follow the instructions that were given in General Conference, are we not like the Israelites who would not listen to Moses?
もし総大会で受ける勧告に従わないとしたら私たちはモーセに聞き従わなかったイスラエルの民と同じではありませんか？
Luckily, we have the opportunity to listen to the messages of General Conference any time we want. We can listen to the messages in any language we want. We can listen to the messages of General Conference in our own homes, while we are driving, or when we go to lunch.
幸いなことに私たちは好きな時にいつでも総大会のメッセージを聴くことが出来ます。好きな言語で聴くことが出来ます。自宅でも車を運転していてもランチに行くときでも総大会のメッセージを聴くことが出来ます。
We can read and study the messages of General Conference, either in the Ensign or Liahona, or on-line on the Church web page. These are the messages that the Lord wants us to study, learn, and put into practice in our lives during the next 6 months.
教会の機関誌Ensign やリアホナ、教会のウェブサイトで総大会のメッセージを読み勉強することが出来ます。これらは主が私たちにこれから半年間、研究し、学び、生活の中で実践することを望んでおられるメッセージなのです。
We have many ways to hear, to read, to study the messages of General Conference. Those messages are the words of the Lord for us. Those messages are scripture for us.
総大会のメッセージを色んな方法で聴いたり学んだりすることが出来ます。これらは主から私たちへのメッセージなのです。私たちにとって聖典なのです。
Let’s not be like the Israelites, who would not listen to their prophet. Let’s study the messages from our prophets and apostles. Let’s find out what the Lord wants us to do during the next 6 months. Let’s open our hearts and our eyes and be willing to receive all the instructions and blessings the Lord wants to give to us.
預言者を拒むイスラエルの民のようにならないようにしましょう。私たちの預言者や使徒のメッセージを研究しましょう。これから半年間主が私たちに望んでおられることを見つけましょう。心と目を開き主が私たちのために用意された教えと祝福を進んで受けようではありませんか。
