では、もし教会での働きにたいして何も報酬を受けないとすれば、われわれは、真理を告げ知らせて同胞の喜ぶのを見て喜びとするほかに、どのような得があって教会で働くのであろうか。アルマ書３０：３４

And now, if we do not receive anything for our labors in the church, what doth it profit us to labor in the church save it were to declare the truth, that we may have rejoicings in the joy of our brethren.  Alma 30:34

Have you ever thought about how much someone would have to pay you to do your calling in the Church, if this were just another job?

あなたは教会の召しが単なる仕事だとしたら、依頼主はあなたにどれほど支払わねばならないか考えたことがありますか？

This is the question that Alma asks.  

アルマの質問はそういうことなのです。

What would they have to pay you to be a Primary Teacher?  What would they have to pay you to be a home teacher?  What would they have to pay you to be an Elders Quorum President?

初等教会の教師になってもらうのにいくら支払はねばならないのでしょう？ホームティーチャーになってもらうのにいくらかかるのでしょう？長老定員会会長を引き受けてもらうのにいくらかかるのでしょう？

What would they have to pay you to go to the Temple?  What would they have to pay you to take food into someone who was sick?  What would they have to pay you to give a talk?

神殿に行ってもらうのにいくら支払わねばならないのでしょう？病気の誰かに食事を持っていってもらうのにいくら支払わねばならないのでしょう？お話をしてもらうのにいくら支払わねばならないのでしょう？

In many churches in the world, that is exactly what happens.  The minister, the teacher, the organist, and anyone else who provides a service in those churches expects to be paid money. 

世の中の多くの教会ではまさにそのようなことが行なわれています。牧師、教師、伴奏者、他にもそれらの教会の礼拝行事を執り行う人は報酬を支払ってもらえると期待しています。

The wicked man, Korihor, accused Alma of getting rich from the labor of the people of the Church.  Alma explained clearly to Korihor that no one in the Church receives even one penny for any of their service in the Church.

邪悪なコリホルはアルマが教会員の働きを通して裕福になっているとアルマを責めました。アルマはコリホルに教会では誰一人教会で行なわれる礼拝行事から一円も受け取っていないと、はっきりと説明しました。

We do not serve in the Church because we expect to be paid money.  

私たちは報酬を支払ってもらえると期待して教会で働きません。

We serve in the Church because we love the Lord and want to follow his example.  We serve in the Church to bless our own lives by helping others.  We serve in the Church to show our gratitude for the many blessings that Heavenly Father gives to us each day.

私たちは主を愛しており、主の模範に従いたいので教会で働きます。私たちは他の誰かを助けることで自分自身が祝福されるよう教会で働きます。私たちは天父が毎日与えてくださる多くの祝福に感謝の気持ちを表すよう教会で働きます。

Some callings require a great deal of time.  Think about a Bishop, a Relief Society President, a Young Women’s President, and many others who serve long hours.  Not one of them will ever be paid any money for their service.  In fact, every one of them would be offended if they were offered money for their service.

召しによっては非常に多くの時間を必要とするものがあります。ビショップや扶助教会の会長、若い女性の会長、ほかにも長い時間奉仕する人を考えてみてください。彼らの誰一人として働くことで報酬を支払われることはありません。実際、もし彼らの働きに対しお金を支払うと言われたら彼らの誰もが感情を害することでしょう。

It is a great blessing to have a calling.  It is a great blessing to have an opportunity to serve.  

召しがあると言うことは素晴らしい祝福です。奉仕する機会があることは素晴らしい祝福です。

Whatever our calling may be, that calling is important to the Lord.  That is the most important thing to understand.  It is not the particular calling that is important.  What is important to the Lord is how well we serve in our calling.

私たちの召しが何であろうと、その召しは主にとって大切なものなのです。そして理解すべき最も重要なことなのです。ある特定の召しだけが重要なのではありません。主にとって重要なのは自分の召しにどれほど熱心に働くかということです。

Let’s work harder this week to do our very best in each of our callings.  Let’s work hard for the Lord.  Let’s show the Lord that we love him and that we want to serve him.  Let’s remember that every calling is an important one and will bring blessings from heaven.

今週、自分の召しに最善を尽くすよう更にがんばりましょう。主のために熱心に働きましょう。私たちが主を愛しており、主のために働きたいことを主に示しましょう。すべての召しは大切であり、天から祝福がもたらされることを覚えていましょう。

I know that, as we serve, we are showing our love for our Savior.  I know that we will be blessed as we serve.  I know that we are gaining experience as we serve.

奉仕するとき私たちは主への愛を示しているということを私は知っています。私たちは奉仕することで祝福をうけることを私は知っています。私たちが奉仕することで経験を得ることを私は知っています。
