Nevertheless, after all this, I have never known much of the ways of the Lord, and his mysteries and marvelous power. I said I had never known much of these things; but behold, I mistake, for I have seen much of his mysteries and marvelous power; yea, even in the preservation of the lives of this people. Nevertheless, I did harden my heart, for I was called many times and I would not hear; therefore I knew concerning these things, yet I would not know; therefore I went on rebelling against God, in the wickedness of my heart, even until the fourth day of this seventh month, which is in the tenth year of the reign of the judges. Alma 10:5-6
This scripture was given by Amulek, as he began to teach the people in Ammonihah with Alma. It contains an interesting message for us in our own day.
この聖句はアミュレクがアルマと共にアモナイハの民に教え始めた時のものです。私たちの今の時代にも興味深いメッセージが含まれています。
Amulek was called of God to be a missionary companion to Alma and to teach and to testify to the wicked people in Ammonihah. This scripture is from the brief introduction that Amulek gave about himself.
アミュレクはアルマの同僚宣教師としてアモナイハの邪悪な人々を教え、証しするよう神に召されました。この聖句はアミュレクが簡単に自分の紹介をしたものです。
Apparently, Amulek was a very successful businessman. Amulek says that he had acquired “much riches” by his hard work and that he was a well-known and wealthy man in Ammonihah. But after his call to be a missionary, none of that was important anymore.
アミュレクは成功したビジネスマンだったようです。彼はよく働くことで「多くの富」を築き、アモナイハの町では富豪でしたし良く知られていました。しかし宣教師として召された後は、そのどれも彼にとって大切ではなくなりました。
Amulek says that he had not known much of the ways of the Lord. He then stops and makes a correction to what he said. He tells the people that he had known much of the ways of the Lord, but he chose not to follow the Lord. “I knew concerning these things, yet I would not know; therefore I went on rebelling against God in the wickedness of my heart”.
アミュレクは主の道をあまり知らなかったと話しています。そして話を止め述べたことを訂正してこう言いました。彼は主の道をたくさん知っていたのに主に従わないことを選んだと述べています。「だからわたしは、これらのことについて知っていながら、知りたいと思わなかった。それでわたしは、悪い心のまま神に背きつづけた」と。
The most interesting thing that Amulek says is, “I was called many times but would not hear”.
アミュレクの言った「幾度となく呼ばれたが、わたしは聞こうとしなかった」はとても興味深い言葉です。
Are we sometimes like Amulek?
私たちもアミュレクのようなことはありませんか？
We have all known “much of the ways of the Lord”. We have seen “his mysteries and his marvelous power” in our own lives. We have all been “called many times”.
私たちは誰もが「多くの主の道」を知っています。「主の奥義と、驚くべき力」を私たちの生活の中で見てきました。私たちは「幾度となく呼ばれ」ているのです。
The question for each of us is, how did we respond to being called? Did we respond humbly and accept the calling from the Lord? Or, like Amulek, have we been called many times but would not hear? Did we “go on rebelling against God in the wickedness of our hearts”?
私たち一人一人への質問は呼ばれたときにどう対応したかです。謙遜に主からの招きを受け入れましたか？それともアミュレクのように幾度呼ばれても聞こうとしませんでしたか？私たちは「悪い心のまま神に背きつづけた」でしょうか？
The message in this scripture is that, like Amulek, even though we may have been called many times, but would not hear, we can repent. Like Amulek, we can make positive changes in our lives. Like Amulek, we can stop rebelling against God.
この聖句のメッセージはアミュレクのように幾度呼ばても聞こうとしなかったとしても私たちは悔い改めることが出来るということです。アミュレクのように私たちも生活を前向きに変えることが出来るのです。アミュレクのように神に背くことをやめることが出来るのです。
Amulek became one of the great missionaries in the Book of Mormon. With Alma, Amulek taught powerful sermons to the people of Ammonihah. Many lives were changed because of his testimony and hard work.
アミュレクはモルモン書の中の偉大な宣教師になりました。アルマと共にアミュレクはアモナイハの民に力強い説教を伝えました。多くの人が彼の証と熱心な働きにより変わったのです。
We have the same opportunity. We may not be famous missionaries, but we can help change lives. We can bear testimony of the truth of the gospel. We can teach others about the wonderful plan of salvation. We can become instruments in the hands of the Lord to accomplish much good.
私たちにも同じ機会があります。有名な宣教師ではないかもしれませんが人が変わる手助けができます。福音が真実であると証できます。素晴らしい救いの計画について誰かに教えることが出来ます。私たちは多くの良いことを達成する主のみ手として働くことが出来ます。
Let’s follow the example of Amulek and stop rebelling against God. Let’s listen and obey. Let’s help others make positive changes in their lives.
アミュレクの模範に従い神に背くのを止めましょう。聞き、従いましょう。誰かの生活を前向きに変える手助けをしましょう。
