見よ、わたしは律法であり、光である。わたしに頼り、最後まで堪え忍びなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたは生きるであろう。最後まで堪え忍ぶ者に、わたしは永遠の命を与えるからである。第三ニーファイ１５：９

Behold, I am the law, and the light.  Look unto me, and endure to the end, and ye shall live; for unto him that endureth to the end will I give eternal life.  3 Nephi 15:9

When Jesus Christ came to visit the Nephites after his resurrection, he taught them many things.  This scripture is a good summary of what we need to do in this life.

イエス・キリストは復活の後、ニーファイの民を訪れ多くの事を教えられました。この聖句は私たちがこの世ですべきことをうまく要約しています。

In this scripture, our Savior teaches us three important principles.

この聖句では、救い主が三つの大切な原則を私たちに教えておられます。

First, we are taught that Jesus Christ is “the law and the light”.  This means that Christ gives us the commandments that we must obey.  This means that he gives us the knowledge we need to keep the commandments.  

まず最初に、イエス・キリストは「律法であり光である」と教えられました。この意味はキリストが私たちに従うべき戒めを与えられたということです。つまりキリストが私たちは戒めに従うべきだという知識を与えられたのです。

Everything that we do is centered in Jesus Christ.  He is our Savior and our Redeemer.  

私たちのすべての行いはキリストを中心としています。キリストは私たちの救い主であり贖い主です。

Next, we are taught about two things we must do in this life.

次に、私たちがこの世で行うべきことを二つ教えられました。

We must “look unto” Jesus Christ.  That means that we must remember him always.  We must always keep his commandments.  We must make Jesus Christ the center of our lives.

私たちはイエス・キリストに「頼ら」ねばいけません。この意味はキリストを何をするときも覚えているべきだということです。私たちはキリストの戒めを守るべきですし、イエス・キリストを生活の中心におかねばなりません。

Finally, we are taught that we must “endure to the end”.  It is not enough to keep the commandments for a few days, or a few weeks, or a few months.  

最後に「最後まで堪え忍びなさい」と教えられました。戒めを何日、何週間、何ヶ月といった短い期間だけ守るだけでは十分ではありません。

We must keep all the commandments “to the end”.  That means until the end of our journey here in mortality.

私たちはすべての戒めを「最後まで」守らねばなりません。この意味はこの死すべき生涯の最後までという意味です。

How do we do that?  

ではどうのようにするのでしょう？

We do that by making Jesus Christ the center of our lives.  We do that by doing our best, each day, one day at a time, to keep his commandments.  We do that by repenting when we make mistakes. 

イエス・キリストを私たちの生活の中心とすることです。戒めを守るよう、その日その時に最善を尽くすのです。過ちを犯すとき悔い改めることでそれが出来るのです。

So one day at a time, we try to endure.  We cannot do it alone.  We need the blessings and help of our Savior.  He is the “law and the light”.  He will help us in our struggles.  He will bless us and guide us.  He wants us to return to him.

毎日その日を耐え忍びましょう。一人では出来ません。救い主の祝福と助けが必要です。救い主は「律法であり光で」あられます。主は私たちがもがき苦しんでいるとき助けてくださいます。救い主は私達を祝福し導いて下さいますし、私達が救い主のもとに戻れるよう望んでおられます。

May we try hard this week to remember this important scripture.  May we “look unto” Christ.  May we “endure to the end”.  

今週もこの大切な聖句を心に留めて頑張りましょう。「キリストに頼り」、「最後まで耐え忍べ」ますように。

I know that if we will do these things, we will receive the greatest blessing of all, as promised in this scripture.  We will receive eternal life.  Our Savior has promised this great blessing to those who remember this scripture.

私はこれらの事を行うならば、この聖句で約束されているすべての内で最も大きな祝福を受けると知っています。私たちは永遠の生命を受けます。私たちの救い主はこの偉大な祝福をこの聖句を忘れず覚えている者に約束してくださいました。

I know that these things are true.  I know that we can endure to the end.  I know that we can receive eternal life.  We just have to do our part.

私はこれらの事が真実であると知っています。私たちは最後まで耐え忍べることを知っていますし、永遠の生命を受けれることも知っています。私たちはただ自分のなすべき事を行えばよいのです。
