そのとき、正しい者たちは、答えて言うであろう、『主よ、いつ、わたしたちは、あなたが空腹であるのを見て食物をめぐみ、かわいているのを見て飲ませましたか。いつあなたが旅人であるのを見て宿を貸し、裸なのを見て着せましたか。また、いつあなたが病気をし、獄にいるのを見て、あなたの所に参りましたか。』すると、主は答えて言うであろう。『あなたがたによく言っておく。わたしの兄弟であるこれらの最も小さい者のひとりにしたのは、すなわち、わたしにしたのである。』マタイ書２５：３７－４０

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink?  When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in?  or naked, and clothed thee?  Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?  And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.  Matthew 25:37-40

In this scripture, the Lord teaches us a very important lesson.  He teaches us that we need to always be willing to help others.  Helping others helps us show that we love him.

この聖句で主はとても大切なレッスンを教えておられます。主は私たちが常に他の誰かを助けてあげたいという気持ちを持つべきだと教えておられます。他の誰かを助けることによって私たちが主を愛していることを示せるのです。

There are opportunities for service all around us each day.  Many people need help.  Some have big problems and need lots of help.  But many people just need a little help.

奉仕する機会は日々私たちの周りにあります。多くの人が助けを必要としています。ある人は大きな問題を抱え、多くの助けを必要としています。また多くの人は少しの助けだけ必要としています。

It is amazing how much it means to someone just to get a phone call, or a short text message, or a card asking how they are doing.  We are not doing a big thing.  We just let them know that someone was thinking about them and that someone cares about them.

ある人には電話をもらったり、短いテキストメッセージをもらったり、元気にしているかとカードをもらったりすることがとてつもなく嬉しいことなのです。私たちは大きなことをするわけではありません。ただ誰かが彼らのことを思い、気にかけていることを知らせるだけなのです。

That is the most important action we can take.  We have no idea what problems other people have.  While a short text message or phone call may not mean much to us, it can strengthen and uplift someone who is sad or lonely.

それが私たちに出来る最も大切な行ないなのです。私たちには他の人がどんな問題を抱えているか知る由もありません。短いテキストメッセージや電話をすることは私たちにはたいしたことではないかもしれません。しかし悲しみや寂しさの中にいる誰かを強め、元気付けてあげることが出来るのです。

We are not expected to solve all the problems in the world.  All we are expected to do is to do our best to help those around us. 

私たちは世の中のすべての問題を解決するようには期待されていません。求められているのはただ回りにいる人々を助けるために最善を尽くすことだけです。

The Lord cannot be there in person to help each of those people.  That is our responsibility.  We all need help sometimes.  We all need to give help sometimes.

主はご自信でそこに行き彼らを助けることはできません。それは私たちの責任なのです。私たちには助けが必要なときがあります。また私たちは他の誰かを助けてあげなければならないときがあります。

The amazing thing is how much we benefit from these small acts of kindness.  When we do even some small thing to help someone else, we always feel good. We feel the love of our Heavenly Father as we serve him by helping his children.  We receive more blessings ourselves as we faithfully serve.

驚くことは、そうした小さな親切からどれだけ私たち自身が助けられているかということです。私たちが何か小さなことで他の誰かを助けてあげると、いつもよい気持ちがします。神様の子供たちを助けることで神様に仕えると天父の愛を感じます。私たちは忠実に奉仕をすることで私たち自身に更に祝福を受けるのです。

So here is the question that each of us needs to ask ourselves at the end of each day.

一日の終わりに自分自身に問うべき質問があります。

“What did I do today to help someone?”

「私は今日他の誰かを助けるために何をしただろうか？」

This week, let’s make a goal to help at least one person each day.  It doesn’t have to be anything big.  It can be just a short phone call to see how someone is doing.  It can be a short text message to cheer someone up.  It can be a plate of cookies given to someone who is lonely.

今週、少なくとも一日に一人助けることを目標にしましょう。大きなことをする必要はありません。元気にしているのか知るだけの短い電話でいいのです。元気付けるためのテキストメッセージでいいのです。寂しくしている誰かにクッキーを持っていってあげるだけでいいのです。

At the end of the week, evaluate how well you did.  Keep working on this.  Every day, every week, every month, let’s look for ways to serve Heavenly Father by serving those around us.

週の終わりに自分がどれほどよく出来たか評価してみてください。頑張って続けてみてください。毎日、毎週、毎月、他の誰かに尽くすことで天父に仕える方法を考え、見つけてみてください。

I know that if we do this, we will be blessed.  I know that we will have a feeling of love and peace in our hearts.  I know that our own burdens will be lighter.

私はこのようにするならば祝福されることを知っています。心に愛と平安を感じ、私たちの重荷が軽くなることを知っています。
