このように、祭司たちは彼らの信仰のゆえにこの聖なる召しを受けたのである。一方、ほかの者たちは、その心がかたくなで、思いをくらませているために、神の御霊を拒んだ。もしそうでなかったならば、彼らはその同胞と同じ大きな特権を得ることができたであろう。アルマ書１３：４

And thus they have been called to this holy calling on account of their faith, while others would reject the Spirit of God on account of the hardness of their hearts and the blindness of their minds, while, if it had not been for this, they might have had as great a privilege as their brethren.  Alma 13:4

This is an interesting scripture.

これも興味深い聖句です。

Many times in our lives, we look at others and see what they have.  We see people who seem to have great blessings given to them.  We see people who seem to have no problems.  We see people who always seem to be lucky.

私たちは毎日の生活の中で他の人を見るとき彼らが持っているものに目や心が行きます。他の人が大きな祝福を受けているように思います。また何の問題も持っていないように見えたり、いつも幸運に恵まれていると感じたりします。

When this happens, we compare our own problems with their happiness.  We sometimes feel cheated.  We sometimes feel that the Lord does not help us.  Satan is trying to trick us.

そう思うとき、私たちは自分の抱えている問題を他人の幸福と比べてしまいます。時々私たちは不当に扱われているとか、主は自分を助けてくださらないと思ったりします。サタンは（そのようにして）私たちを騙そうとします。

In reality, the Lord is always ready to help us.  He wants us to be happy.  He wants us to have good experiences.  He wants to give us blessings.

実際には主はいつでも私たちを助ける準備が出来ておられます。主は私たちに幸せになって欲しいのです。主は私たちがよい経験をし、私たちを祝福したいと望んでおられます。

So why do we go through hard times?

では何故私たちは困難な時期を通らなければならないのでしょう。

Sometimes, it may be because there is something that we need to learn.  We may have been doing everything that we should do.  We may have been very faithful.  But we still get a trial given to us.

それは私たちが何かを学ぶ必要があるからかもしれません。私たちはすべきことをすべて行ってきており、とても忠実でいたかもしれません。それでも私たちには試練がやってきます。

But other times, our trials are the result of our own poor decisions.  

そうでなければ、試練は自分のおろかな決断の結果かもしれません。

President Monson has often used the words “decisions determine destiny”.  

モンソン大管長は「決断は行く末を決める」という言葉をしばしば使われています。

When we look at others, we do not always know the decisions they have made in their lives.  We do not always know the hard work they did based on their decisions.  We do not always know how hard it was for them.

私たちが他の人を見るとき、彼らが今までに選んできた決断をいつも知っているわけではありません。決断の結果彼らが一生懸命が頑張ってきたことをいつも知っているわけではありません。また彼らにとってどれほど辛いものだったのか知っているわけではありません。

The good news is that in the gospel we can all qualify for every blessing that we need.  All we have to do is to be faithful and keep the commandments.  We just need to make proper decisions.

うれしいことは福音によって私たちが必要とするすべての祝福を受ける資格あるということです。私たちがすべきことはただ忠実で、戒めを守ることだけです。私たちはただ適切な決断をする必要があります。

We have all made poor decisions in the past.  We can’t change that.  But we can go forward with a determination to make good decisions now.  If we do, we will receive all the blessings that we need.

私たちは皆、過去におろかな決断をしたことがあります。それを今更変えることは出来ません。しかしこれからよい決断をするという決意を持って前進することはできます。そうするならば私たちに必要なすべての祝福を受けることが出来ます。

I know that everyone has the same opportunities in the gospel.  Everyone can receive all the blessings that the Lord wants to give to us.  No one is excluded.  

私はだれもが福音によって同様の機会を持っていると知っています。主が私たちに用意されたすべての祝福をだれもが受けることが出来ると知っています。誰一人例外はないのです。

Let’s work hard this week to make good choices.  Let’s remember this scripture and the words of President Monson.  Let’s get a great destiny by making good decisions today.

今週もよい決断をするよう頑張りましょう。この聖句とモンソン大管長の言葉を覚えていましょう。今日よい決断をすることですばらしい行く末を手に入れましょう。
