あなたがたに言うが、もしあなたがたが、神の慈しみと神のたぐいない力、神の知恵、神の忍耐、人の子らへの神の寛容を知るようになり、また主に頼り、主の戒めを熱心に守って、自分の生涯、すなわち、死すべき体の生涯の最後まで信仰を持ち続ける人に救いが与えられるように、世の初めから贖罪が備えられてきたことをも知るようになったならば、わたしは言うが、その人は、アダムの堕落以来この世に住んだ、あるいは現在住んでいる、あるいは世の終わりまでに住む全人類のために、世の初めから備えられた贖罪によって救いを受ける人である。モーザヤ書４：６－７

I say unto you, if ye have come to a knowledge of the goodness of God, and his matchless power, and his wisdom, and his patience, and his long-suffering towards the children of men; and also, the atonement which has been prepared from the foundation of the world, that thereby salvation might come to him that should put his trust in the Lord, and should be diligent in keeping his commandments, and continue in the faith even unto the end of his life, I mean the life of the mortal body — I say, that this is the man that receiveth salvation, through the atonement which was prepared from the foundation of the world for all mankind, which ever were since the fall of Adam, or who are, or who ever shall be, even unto the end of the world.  Mosiah 4:6-7

This scripture is from king Benjamin’s famous talk.  It is a long scripture, but is has several important messages.

この聖句はベニヤミン王の有名な説教のひとつです。これは長い聖句ですがこの中には幾つか大切なメッセージが含まれています。

In this scripture, king Benjamin teaches us what we need to do to be saved.  He teaches us that there is only one way to be saved.  The way is the same for every person who has lived or who will live on the earth.

この聖句ではベニヤミン王が私たちが救われるために何をすべきか教えています。救われる道は一つしかなく、その道はこの地上に生まれ住んだ誰にでも共通であると教えています。

King Benjamin is speaking to the people who already have a testimony of the gospel.  In the first part of this scripture, king Benjamin say he is talking to those people who believe in God and who want to keep his commandments.

ベニヤミン王はすでに福音の証を持っている人々に教えています。この聖句の最初の部分でベニヤミン王は神を信じ、神の戒めを守ろうとする人々に教えていると言っています。

There are three important things that we must do to be saved.

私たちが救われるためにはなすべき三つの重要な事がらがあります。

First, we must “put our trust in the Lord”.  This means that we must first have faith.  We must first believe in God.  We must first want to follow God’s teachings.

まず、私たちは「主に頼る」ということです。これはまず信仰を持たねばならないと言う意味です。私たちはまず神を信じ、神の教えに従わねばなりません。

Second, we must “be diligent in keeping his commandments.”  After we have faith, we must repent.  We must be baptized.  We must keep all the commandments that we have been given.

次に、私たちは「主の戒めを熱心に守る」ということです。信仰を持った後、私たちは悔い改めねばなりません。バプテスマを受け、与えられたすべての戒めを守らねばなりません。

Third, we must “continue in faith even unto the end of this life”.  After we have started on the path of faith, we must stay on that path.  This life is the time for us to show God that we love him and will keep his commandments.  

最後に、私たちは「死すべき体の生涯の最後まで信仰を持ち続ける」ということです。ひとたび信仰の道を歩み始めたならば、私たちはその道に留まっていなければなりません。人生は神を愛し、神の戒めを守ることを証明する時なのです。

If we do these three things, king Benjamin promises us that we will be saved.  

これらを行うならばベニヤミン王は私たちが救われると約束しています。

I know that the things that king Benjamin teaches us are true.  I know that we all love God and want to keep his commandments.  I know that we all have faith.  I know that we all can be saved.  I know that we will be blessed and guided as we do these things.

私はベニヤミン王の教えは正しいと知っています。私たちは皆、神を愛し、神の戒めを守りたいと知っています。私たちは皆、信仰を持っていること、また皆救われうることも知っています。これらを行うなら祝福され導かれると知っています。

Let’s work hard this week to have greater faith.   Let’s work hard this week to keep all the commandments.  

今週も信仰が更に強まり、またすべての戒めを守るよう頑張って努力しましょう。
