そこで、わたしニーファイは父に言った。「わたしは行って、主が命じられたことを行います。主が命じられることには、それを成し遂げられるように主によって道が備えられており、それでなくては、主は何の命令も人の子らに下されないことを承知しているからです。」ニーファイ第一書３：７
And it came to pass that I Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commanded them. 1 Nephi 3:7
As we begin a new year, this is an appropriate scripture to review. We all know this scripture.
新年を迎えるにあたり、これは自分自身を見直すのに適切な聖句です。私たちは皆この聖句を知っています。
Nephi’s father had asked his sons to go back to Jerusalem to get the Brass Plates from Laban. Laman and Lemuel did not want to go. They thought it would be too hard. But Nephi knew that this was a commandment from the Lord. He knew it could be done.
ニーファイの父は息子たちにエルサレムに戻りレーバンから真鍮版をとって来るように頼みました。レーマンとレムエルは行きたくありませんでした。彼らは難しすぎると思いました。しかしニーファイはこれは主からの戒めだと知っていました。彼はそれを成し遂げることが出来ることを知っていました。
There are several important lessons for us to learn from this scripture.
この聖句には私たちにとって幾つか学ぶべき大切な教えがあります。
First, we learn about obedience. Nephi knew that this was a commandment from the Lord. He knew that it might be difficult to do. But he knew that the Lord would help him. He had faith in the Lord.
まず最初に、私たちは従順について学びます。ニーファイはこれは主からの戒めだと知っていました。彼はそれは成し遂げるのは難しいかもしれないと知っていましたが、主が助けてくださると知っていました。彼は主に信仰を持っていました。
Second, there are two important words in this scripture, “to go” and “to do”. These are action verbs. Nephi says he will go and will do. He takes action. He does not wait for the Lord to show him everything he needs to do. He immediately begins to work on his assignment.
二つ目に、この聖句には二つの大切な言葉があります。それは「行く」と「行う」です。それらは行動動詞です。ニーファイは行って成し遂げると言っています。彼は行動、実行します。彼は主が必要なことをすべて示されるのを待ってはいませんでした。彼は彼の任務をすぐに始めました。
Third, we learn about priesthood authority. Nephi’s father was the priesthood leader in their family. The Lord could have given this commandment directly to Nephi. But that is not the way the priesthood works. The Lord gave the commandment to Lehi. Lehi then had the responsibility to teach his sons about the commandment.
三つ目に、私たちは神権の権能について学びます。ニーファイの父は家族の神権指導者でした。主は戒めを直接ニーファイに与えることも出来ましたが、それは神権の正しい運営方法ではありません。主はリーハイにまずその戒めを与えられました。その後リーハイはその戒めを息子たちに教えるという責任を持っていました。
Just like Nephi, we all receive “commandments” from our priesthood leaders. We receive some of them at General Conference. We receive some of them during Stake Conference. We receive some of them from our own bishop in our own ward.
ちょうどニーファイのように、私たちは全員「戒め」を私たちの指導者を通して受けるのです。私たちは戒めの幾つかを総大会やステーク大会から受けます。また幾つかは自分たちのワード部のビショップより受けます。
Usually, these “commandments” come as new callings, or as new assignments, or as reminders of what we have already been taught to do.
通常、それらの「戒め」は新しい召しや、責任、任務、役職などとしてやってきます。またはすでに行うよう教えられたことを忘れないよう確認されることだったりします。
So as we start this new year, let us be like Nephi and not like Laman and Lemuel.
新年を始めるにあたり、レーマンやレムエルのようではなく、ニーファイのようでありましょう。
May we always follow the example of Nephi. May we always be ready “to go” and “to do”. May we always have faith in the Lord. May we always be willing to follow the “commandments” we receive from our priesthood leaders.
いつもニーファイの模範に従えますように。いつでも「行って、（主が命じられたことを）行え」る準備が出来ていますように。いつも主への信仰を持ち、神権指導者より受けた「戒め」に進んで従えますように。
I know that we will be blessed and guided as we do these things. I know that we can show our faith by our willingness to do what we are asked to do. I know that we will increase our faith as we accept and faithfully serve in our callings.
私はこれらのことをするならば祝福され導かれると知っています。私は行うように頼まれたことを快く行うことで自分の信仰を（神に）示すことが出来ると知っています。私は自分の召しを受け入れ忠実に務めるならば自分の信仰が増すことを知っています。
