人が、なすべき善を知りながら行わなければ、それは彼によっ罪である。ヤコブ４：１７

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.  James 4:17

In this short verse, the Apostle James teaches us a very important lesson.  

使徒ヤコブはこの短い聖句の中で私たちに大切なレッスンを教えています。

We all try our best to keep the commandments.  We don’t steal.  We don’t tell lies.  We don’t commit murder.

私たちは皆、戒めを守ろうと最善を尽くしています。盗んだり嘘をついたり人を殺したりしません。

While keeping those commandments is very important, James teaches us that it is not enough.  

それらの戒めを守ることはとても大切ではあるものの、ヤコブはそれだけでは十分でないと教えています。

As followers of Jesus Christ, much more is expected of us.  It is not enough to not commit acts of sin.  We are expected to follow the example of Jesus Christ and to do good things.

イエス・キリストに従うものとして、更に多くのことが要求されています。罪を犯さないだけでは十分ではありません。私たちはイエス・キリストの模範に従い、良い行いをするよう期待されています。

We have all been taught about the life of our Savior.  He spent his time teaching and helping others.  No one was excluded.  He offered help and comfort to everyone he met.  His great atoning sacrifice was the ultimate act of service to each one of us.

私たちはみな救い主の生涯について学び理解しています。救い主は誰かを教え、助けることに時間を費やされました。誰も偏ることなく出会う誰にでも助けや慰めを施されました。主の偉大な贖いの犠牲は私たち一人一人に対する奉仕の究極の行動でした。

If we believe in Jesus Christ, we must do the things that he taught us to do.  We must follow his example.  We must do our best to do good.

イエス・キリストを信じているならば私たちは教えられた事を行わねばなりません。主の模範に従い、良い行いをするよう最善を尽くさねばなりません。

No matter what our situation in life is, we all have opportunities to do good.  If we let those opportunities pass by without doing anything, James teaches us that it will be a sin.

どんな状況にいようと良い行いをする機会は誰にもあります。もし私たちがその機会を何もせずにやり過ごすならそれは罪になると教えています。

There are many ways that we can do good.  We can do good by serving in our callings at Church.  Every calling is important.  In fact, the most important calling in the Church is the calling that we are currently given.  We are to do our best to serve in whatever calling the Lord has given us.

よい行いをするには沢山の方法があります。教会での責任を果たすことで良い行いができます。どの召しも大切です。事実、教会で受けている最も大切な召しは今受けている召しなのです。私たちは主から与えられたどのような召しにも最善を尽くすべきなのです。

We can do good by visiting those who are sick or are lonely.  Sometimes just a friendly word can help lift someone’s spirit.  There are many around us who feel left out and who need a friend.  

病気や孤独な人を見舞うことで良い行いができます。時には親しみのこもったメッセージは誰かの霊を高めてくれます。私たちの周りには孤独で友達が必要な人が多くいます。

We can do good by sharing the teachings of Jesus Christ with those around us.  We can do this by always being an example of a follower of Jesus Christ.  We can do this by being willing to help others.  We can do this by being cheerful and being happy, even in difficult times.

周りにいる人にイエス・キリストの教えを分かち合うことで良い行いが出来ます。常にイエス・キリストに従う者の模範でいる事、他の誰かを進んで助ける事でそれが出来ます。困難な時にも笑顔と幸せな態度でいる事によりそれが出来ます。

We can’t do good to others unless we also do good to ourselves.  We can do good to ourselves by saying our prayers every day.  We can do good to ourselves by reading the scriptures and learning more about Jesus Christ.  We can do good to ourselves by attending our Church meetings.

もし自分自身に良くしていなければ、他の誰かに良くする事など出来ません。毎日お祈りする事で、自分自身によくする事が出来ます。聖典を読みイエス・キリストについてもっと学ぶ事で、自分によくする事が出来ます。教会の集会に参加する事で、自分に良くすることが出来ます。

The gospel is a gospel of action.  In verse 27 of the 58th section of the Doctrine & Covenants, we read that we “should be anxiously engaged in a good cause”.  Members of many other churches go to their meetings on Sunday, hear a sermon, and then go home feeling no responsibility to do anything.

福音とは行動を伴う教えです。教義と聖約58章27節では「​​熱心​に​善​いこと​に​携わるべき」だと書かれています。多くの他の教会では会員は日曜日に集会に出席しますが、説教を聞いた後とくに何をするという責任を負うことなく帰宅します。

In the Lord’s church, everyone has a responsibility.  Everyone has a responsibility to be “anxiously engaged in a good cause”.  Everyone has a responsibility to do their best to do good.

主の教会では誰もが責任を持っています。誰もが「​​熱心​に​善い​こと​に​携わる」責任を持っています。誰もがよい事を行うために最善を尽くす責任を持っています。

Let’s look for opportunities this week to do good.  Let’s do our best to show others that we believe in Jesus Christ.  Let’s be anxiously engaged in this great work.

今週もよい行いをする機会を探しましょう。私たちはイエス・キリストを信じていることを他の人にわかるよう最善を尽くしましょう。熱心に善いことに携わるようにしましょう。

I know that, as we do good, we will receive the promised blessings.  Not only will the lives of those we help be happier, but our own lives will be happier too.  

善い行いをする時、私たちは約束された祝福を受けることを私は知っています。私たちが助けてあげる人々の人生が幸福になるだけでなく、私たち自身の人生も幸福になるのです。
