わが子シブロンよ、神を信頼すればするほど、あなたはそれだけ試練や災難や苦難から救い出され、そして終わりの日に高く上げられるということを覚えていてもらいたい。アルマ書３８：５

And now my son, Shiblon, I would that ye should remember, that as much as ye shall put your trust in God even so much ye shall be delivered out of your trials, and your troubles, and your afflictions, and ye shall be lifted up at the last day.  Alma 38:5

This scripture, given by Alma to his second son, Shiblon, contains some important instructions for us as well.

アルマが次男シブロンに残したこの聖句には、私たちにとっても大切な教えが含まれています。

In this scripture, Alma teaches us that we must put our trust in God.  Putting our trust in God is the only way for us to be happy.

この聖句では神を信頼しなければいけないことをアルマは教えています。神を信頼することは幸せのための唯一の道なのです。

Alma tells Shiblon that he will be led and helped by God if he will have faith.

アルマはもし信仰を持つならば神に導かれ助けを受けることをシブロンに教えています。

It is important to notice that Alma did not say that, if we put our trust in God, we will have no trials or difficulties.

ここで大切なのは、もし神を信頼するならば試練や困難が何も無いとはアルマは述べていないことです。

In fact, Alma says very clearly that we will have trials and troubles and afflictions.  That is what this life is for.  We are here to be tried and tested.

事実、アルマは私たちは試練や困難、艱難を受けるだろうとはっきりと述べています。それは人生の目的なのです。私たちは試されるためにこの世にいるのです。

Some trials may be short, while others may last many years.  There is much for us to learn while we are here in this life.  We are each given opportunities to learn by passing through difficult times.

ある試練は短く、またある試練は何年も続くかもしれません。私たちはこの世に居る間に学ぶことが多くあります。私たちは皆、困難な経験を通して学ぶ機会を得ています。

What Alma teaches us is that God will always help us get through those trials and troubles and afflictions.  He knows our pains and our trials.  He knows our strengths and our weaknesses.  He knows what we need to learn while we are here.

アルマの教えは、常に神様は私たちがそれらの試練や困難、艱難を乗り越えれるよう助けてくださるということです。神様は私たちの強さと弱さをご存知です。また私たちがこの世で何を学ぶ必要があるかもご存知です。

Alma instructs us to go forward with faith.  He teaches us that, although there will be many trials and difficulties in this life, all those trials and difficulties will someday come to an end.

アルマは私たちに信仰を持って前進するよう指導しています。人生には多くの試練や困難がありますが、それらの試練や困難はいつか終わりが来ると彼は教えています。

If we are faithful, if we put our trust in God, we will be “lifted up at the last day”.  God will bless us and guide us and help us.  It is true that we will all have trials, but it is also true that God will help us endure those trials.

もし忠実であれば、そしてもし神に信頼をおくならば、私たちは「終わりの日に高く上げられる」のです。神様は私たちを祝福し、導き、助けてくださいます。私たちは皆、試練を受けることは真実です。しかし神様は私たちがその試練を耐え忍べるように助けてくださることも真実です。

Let’s try harder this week to “put our trust in God”.  Let’s try harder to see past the trials of today.  Let’s try harder to see this life as a small part of eternity.  Let’s all go forward with greater faith in God.

今週、「神を信頼する」よう努力しましょう。今抱える試練の先にやって来る祝福に目をやりましょう。この世が永遠にとってどれ程短い期間であるか想像してみましょう。神へさらに強い信仰を持って前進しましょう。
