And now, because of the covenant ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and hid daughters: for behold, this day he had spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters.  Mosiah 5:7

This scripture is from the end of king Benjamin’s last great speech to his people.  In that speech, king Benjamin taught them many things.  In particular, he taught them about Jesus Christ.  

この聖句はベニヤミン王が民にあてた最後の教えの中の最終部分にあります。この説教でベニヤミン王は多くのことを民に教えました。特にイエス・キリストについて教えました。

King Benjamin taught his people that they could be saved only through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  He taught them that the Law of Moses had no power to save them.  It was only given to them to teach them about Jesus Christ.

ベニヤミン王はイエス・キリストの贖いによってのみ人は救われることを民に教えました。モーセの律法には彼らを救う力は無く、それはただ彼らにキリストについて学ぶために与えられたものだと教えました。

After king Benjamin had finished teaching his people, the people said that they had a “mighty change” and that they wanted to “do good continually” (verse 2).  They made a covenant that they would always follow Jesus Christ and would always keep his commandments.

ベニヤミンが民に教え終わったとき、民は「心に大きな変化」を生じ、「絶えず善を行う」（第２節）望みを持ったと述べています。彼らは常にイエス・キリストに従い、キリストの戒めを守ると聖約しました。

Because of their faith, and because of the righteous covenant that they made, king Benjamin then taught them that they had become the sons and daughters of Christ.

We also have made righteous covenants with the Lord.  We have all had faith in Jesus Christ and have repented of our sins.  We have all been baptized by priesthood authority and have made a covenant to always follow Jesus Christ and always keep his commandments.  

私たちも主と固い聖約を交わしました。イエス・キリストに信仰を持ち、罪を悔い改めています。私たちは全員神権の権能によりバプテスマを受けています。そしてイエス・キリストに従うこととキリストの戒めを常に守るという聖約を交わしました。

Each week, we have the opportunity to repent of our sins and to renew our covenant by partaking of the sacrament.  As we partake of the sacrament, we again covenant to always remember Jesus Christ and to always keep his commandments.

毎週、私たちは聖餐をとることで罪を悔い改め、誓約を更新する機会があります。聖餐をとることで、私たちは常にイエス・キリストを覚え、戒めを守る聖約を新たにします。

In doing this, we also become “his sons and his daughters”.  We also have our “hearts changed through faith on his name”.

そうすることで、私たちは「キリストの息子、娘」となるのです。「キリストの御名を信じて心が改る」のです。

As sons and daughters of Jesus Christ, how should we act?  What kind of people should we be?  What should we treat other people?

私たちはイエス・キリストの息子、娘としてどう行動したらよいのでしょう？どういった人物でいればよいのでしょう？他の人にどう接したらよいのでしょう？

As sons and daughters of Jesus Christ, we should act the way Jesus Christ would act.  We should be examples to the world of true followers of Jesus Christ.  

私たちはイエス・キリストの息子、娘としてイエス・キリストがなさるように行動すべきです。私たちはイエス・キリストに真に従うものとして世の模範となるべきです。

We should always be kind to those around us, to our friends, to those we work with, and especially to those of our own family.  

私たちの周りにいる人々や友達、共に働く仲間、特に自分の家族に対して常に親切であるべきです。

Let’s try harder this week to be better sons and daughters of Jesus Christ.  Let’s try harder to be good examples of true followers of Jesus Christ to those around us.  Let’s try harder to always remember Jesus Christ and to always keep his commandments.

今週イエス・キリストの息子、娘となれるようより一生懸命努めましょう。私たちの周りの人々にイエス・キリストに真に従うもののよい模範となるよう努力しましょう。常にイエス・キリストを忘れないようにし、キリストの戒めを守るようにしましょう。
