見よ、主は心と進んで行う精神とを求める。そして、進んで行う従順な者は、この終わりの時にシオンの地の良いものを食べるであろう。教義と聖約６４：３４
Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind; and the willing and obedient shall eat of the good of the land of Zion in these last days. Doctrine and Covenants 64:34
This short scripture from the Doctrine and Covenants gives us great hope and encouragement. It tells us in just a few words what the Lord expects of us and what we need to do to be happy.
教義と聖約のこの短い聖句は私たちに希望と励ましを与えてくれます。主が私たちに求めておられることや私たちが幸せであるために何をしなければならないかをこのわずかな言葉で教えています。
This is not a difficult scripture to understand.
これは理解しにくい聖句ではありません。
It lists two things that the Lord requires of us. It then explains what the rewards will be.
主が私たちに求めておられることが二つ書かれています。そしてさらにその報いは何かを説いています。
We are told that the Lord requires “the heart” and a “willing mind”.
主は私たちに「心」と「進んで行う精神」を求めると言っておられます。
In other words, “the heart” means we are to love the Lord. A “willing mind” means we must want to keep his commandments.
言い換えると「心」は主を愛することであり「進んで行なう精神」は主の戒めを守るということです。
The promise is that the “willing and obedient shall eat of the good of the land of Zion”. The phrase “shall eat of the good of the land of Zion” means that they will receive great blessings.
約束では「進んで行う従順な者は、シオンの地の良いものを食べるであろう」と言われています。「シオンの地の良いものを食べるであろう」とはすばらしい祝福を受けるであろうという意味です。
The symbolism here is that, just like the physical body likes to eat good food, so our spiritual body likes to receive blessings from the Lord.
ここで象徴的に意味しているのは丁度、肉の体が良いものを食べたいように、私たちの霊の体も主から祝福を受けたいということです。
And who is it that will receive these great blessings?
ではいったい誰がこの素晴らしい祝福を受けるのでしょう？
The “willing and the obedient”.
「進んで行う従順な者」です。
Note that it does not say “the perfect and sinless”. If those were the words that were used, none of us would ever receive any blessings.
しかし「完全で罪の無い者」とは述べていないことに注目してください。もしそのように述べられていれば誰一人としてどのような祝福も受けることはないでしょう。
But we can all qualify as the “willing and obedient”.
しかし私たちはだれでも「進んで行う従順な者」の資格を得ることができるのです。
We can all have a desire to serve the Lord. We can all try to do our best in our callings. We can all strive to keep the commandments.
私たちは皆、主に仕えたいという望みを持つことが出来ます。自分の召しに最善を尽くす努力が出来ます。私たちは皆、戒めを守る努力ができます。
When we fail, as we all do at times, we can repent. We can go forward with faith, even though we sometimes make mistakes. We can all still be “willing and obedient”.
私たちはだれでも失敗することがありますが、その時は悔い改めることが出来ます。時々、間違いを犯そうとも信仰を持って前進出来ます。私たちは皆「進んで行う従順な者」になることが出来るのです。
On page 84 of the President Howard W. Hunter lesson manual, President Hunter comments on this very scripture. He says, “The place to begin is here. The time to start is now. The length of our stride needs be but one step at a time.”
ハワードW ハンター大管長のレッスン教材（日本語では76 ページ）でハンター大管長がまさにこの聖句についてコメントしています。「始める場所はここであり、始めるときは今です。私たちに必要なのは一歩ずつ進むことです」と。
We need to follow this simple instruction. The Lord does not expect us to be perfect. He does expect us to do our best. He does expect us to be “willing and obedient”.
私たちはこの簡潔な指導に従う必要があります。主は私たちに完璧であるようにとは要求されていません。ただ私たちが最善を尽くすことを要求されています。「進んで行う従順な者」であることを望んでおられます。
Let’s all work hard this week to qualify as the “willing and obedient”. Let’s do better in our callings. Let’s try harder to serve others. Let’s repent and be willing to give the Lord our “heart and a willing mind”.
今週「進んで行う従順な者」と認められるよう努力しましょう。受けている召しをより忠実に果しましょう。頑張って他の誰かに仕えてみましょう。悔い改め「心と進んで行う精神」を主に捧げるようにしましょう。
I know as we do these things, we will become the “willing and obedient”. I know that we will be among those who shall “eat of the good of the land of Zion”. I know that we will receive all the blessings that are promised to the faithful.
そうすれば私たちは「進んで行う従順な者」になることを知っています。「シオンの地の良いものを食べる」ものとなり、忠実なものに約束された全ての祝福を享受できることを知っています。
