しかし見よ、義人、すなわちイスラエルの聖者の聖徒たち、イスラエルの聖者を信じてきた者たち、世の十字架を堪え忍んできた者たち、世の辱めをいとわなかった者たち、これらの人々は、世の初めから彼らのために用意された神の王国を受け継ぐ。そして彼らの喜びは、とこしえに満たされるであろう。ニーファイ第二書９：１８

But, behold, the righteous, the saints of the Holy One of Israel, they who have believed in the Holy One of Israel, they who have endured the crosses of the world, and despised the shame of it, they shall inherit the kingdom of God, which was prepared for them from the foundation of the world, and their joy shall be full forever.  2 Nephi 9:18

This scripture reminds us of two important facts.

この聖句は私たちに二つの大切な事がらを気づかせてくれます。

First, it reminds us that this life is a time of trials and problems and difficulties.  

まず最初に、この世が試練や問題、困難の時であると教えています。

No one is exempt from that fact.  Sometimes, we look at others and think that their life is perfect.  We think that they have no problems.  We think that we are the only ones who have trials.

誰一人としてこの事実から免除されることはありません。時折、他の人を見るとき彼らの人生が完璧であるように思えます。彼らには何の問題も無い様に見えて、自分だけが試練を抱えているように考えます。

The strange thing is, when we talk to someone whom we think has a perfect life, we are often surprised to learn that they think the same thing about our lives.  They think that they have many problems and wish they could be like us.

不思議なことに、私たちが完璧な人生をもっていると感じている人と話すとき、彼らも自分と同じような試練を抱えている事を知り驚くことがあります。彼らも多くの問題を抱えており、同じように私たちのようであれば良いのにと望んでいるのです。

We were taught very clearly before we came to this life that it would be a difficult experience.  We were taught that we would have to suffer hardships and trials.  We were taught that we would have problems in our lives.

この世に来る前に、この世が難しいものであることを私たちははっきり教えられていました。私たちは苦難や試練を経験しなければならないことを教えられました。また人生の中で問題を経験することも教えられました。

We understood that this was necessary for us to learn, to progress, and to grow.  We wanted to come here and have these trials.  We knew it was the only way we could become more like our Heavenly Father.

それは私たちが学び、進歩し、成長するために必要であると私たちは理解しています。私たちはここに来て、それらの試練を受けたいと望んだのです。私たちはそれが天父のようになる唯一の道であることを知っていました。

But sometimes, we focus only on our problems.  We think life is not fair.  We think we have too many trials.  We focus only on the bad things.

しかし時折、私たちは自分の問題だけに目を向けます。人生は不公平だとか、試練が多すぎるとか考えます。私たちは悪い事がらにのみ注目します。

When this happens, remember, there is no hymn called “Count Your Many Problems”.

そのような時は「困難数えあげ」という賛美歌など無いことを思い出してください。

Even in times of trials and difficulties, we need to count our many blessings.  Just the fact that we were able to come to this earth and receive a mortal body is a wonderful blessing.  We need to focus more on our great blessings and not on our trials.

試練や困難の中でも私たちは受けている多くの祝福を数え上げる必要があります。この地上に来て死すべき肉体を受けられたという事実自体、素晴らしい祝福なのです。私たちは試練ではなく、受けている素晴らしい祝福にもっと心を向けるべきです。

The second fact that this scripture reminds us of is that great blessings await those who “endure to the end”.  If we pass this test of mortality successfully, we are promised the most wonderful blessings our Heavenly Father can give to us.  

二つ目はこの聖句で「最後まで耐え忍ぶ」ものには素晴らしい祝福が待っていること教えています。もしこの死すべき世のテストに無事パスすれば天父は私たちのために最高の祝福を約束してくださっています。

We are promised that we will “inherit the kingdom of God” and that our “joy shall be full forever”!

私たちは「神の王国を受け継ぎ」そして私たちの「喜びは、とこしえに満たされるであろう」という約束を受けています。

What more could we ask for than that?

それ以上に何をお願いできるでしょう？

Let’s try harder this week to focus on our blessings.  Let’s not sing “Count Your Many Problems” anymore.  Let’s remember the great blessings that are waiting for us after we complete our work here on earth.

今週、頑張って受けている祝福に心を向けましょう。これからは「困難数え上げ」の賛美歌など歌わないようにしましょう。この地上で私たちがなすべき業を終えた後に待っている素晴らしい祝福を忘れないようにしましょう。
