そして、わたしたちの知っているように、現在、死が人類に及んでいる。まことに、アミュレクが語った死、つまり肉体の死が及んでいる。にもかからわず、人が悔い改めることができるように、猶予期間が与えられた。したがって、この世の生涯は試しの状態、すなわち神にお会いする用意をする時期、わたしたちが前に語った死者の復活後に訪れるあの無窮の状態に対して用意をする時期となった。アルマ書１２：２４

And we see that death comes upon mankind, yea, the death which has been spoken of by Amulek, which is the temporal death; nevertheless there was a space granted unto man in which he might repent; therefore this life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which has been spoken of by us, which is after the resurrection of the dead.  Alma 12:24

There is only one absolute certainty in this life.  That certainty is that we will all, every one of us, die at some point.  That is all part of the plan.  

この世には絶対的に確実なことが一つあります。その確実なこととは私たちはみな間違いなくある時点でこの世を去ると言うことです。そして、それは（神の）計画の一部なのです。

We know that this life is a time of trial and testing.  We were sent here to see if we would keep the commandments.  We were sent here to learn.  We were sent here to gain experience.

私たちはこの世の生涯が試しとテストの期間であることを知っています。私たちは戒めを守るかどうか見るためにここに送られてきました。また私たちは学ぶために、そして経験を得るためにここに送られてきました。

This life was designed for things to go wrong.  It is like any other training program.  In a training program, after you have learned the basics, you are put into situations where things go wrong.  The test is to see how you handle the problems.  Life is like that.

この世の生涯は物事がとかくうまくいかないように出来ています。それは一般の研修・訓練プログラムに似ています。研修プログラムでは私たちは基礎を学んだ後、事がうまく行かない状況に置かれます。そのテストでは私たちがどのように問題を処理するかを見られます。人生もそのようなものです。

If we think of this life as being a training program, it is sometimes easier to understand why we have trials and problems.  We knew about that before we came here.  We wanted to take the training program.  We wanted to show that we could learn.

もしこの世の生涯も研修プログラムのようだと考えれば、なぜ私たちに試練や問題があるのか用意に理解できるのではないでしょうか。私たちはこの世に来る前にそのことを知っていました。私たちは研修プログラムを受けたいと思いましたし、私たちが学べるということを証明したいと思いました。

One difference in our “life training program” is that we do not know when it will end.  Some have very short “training programs”, while others have very long “training programs”.  That is also part of the test.  We need to be prepared for the “final graduation”.  

私たちの「人生の研修プログラム」で一つ違うことはそれがいつ終了するのかわからないと言うことです。ある人にはとても短い「研修プログラム」であり、他の人にはとても長い「研修プログラム」だったりします。それもテストの一部なのです。私たちは「最終卒業式」のために準備しなければなりません。

We need to use our time wisely in this “life training program”.  Our “grade” for the training program will determine our happiness in the eternal worlds.  The “training program” is short, eternity is long.  

私たちはこの「人生の研修プログラム」では時間を賢明に使わねばなりません。研修プログラムの「成績」が私たちの永遠の世界での幸福度を決定するのです。その「研修プログラム」は短く、永遠は長いのです。

Since life seems long, many people delay studying for the “final exam”.  They don’t want to study.  They don’t want to learn.  They just want to have fun.

人生は長く思えるので、多くの人は「最終試験」のための勉強を先延ばしにしています。彼らは勉強をしたくないのです。彼らは学びたくないのです。彼らはただ楽しく暮らしたいのです。

The problem with that attitude is that there will be a “final exam”.  Just like in school, if we don’t study, if we don’t practice, if we don’t try, we will not receive a good grade on the “final exam”.  

そのような態度で問題なのは「最終試験」が必ずやってくる来ると言うことです。学校生活のように私たちが勉強しなければ、そして練習せず、試みなければ、私たちは「最終試験」でよい成績をとることはないのです。

In life, the grade we receive on our “final exam” determines how happy we will be for eternity.  We are given the books to study.  We are given opportunities for practice tests.  We are given time to train.  

人生において「最終試験」の成績は、私たちがどれ程、永遠に幸せでいられるかを決定します。私たちは学ぶべき教科書を持っています。私たちには練習問題をする機会があります。私たちは訓練の時間を頂いています。

It is up to each of us to use our time here wisely.  We do not know when the clock will run out and our time here will be over.

この世で時間を賢明また有効に使うかどうかはまったく私たち自身に懸かっています。私たちはいつ自分の時計が止まってしまうのかわかりません。

I know that this life is a time of testing.  I know that we have been given the scriptures to study.  I know that we have been given wonderful teachers.  The rest is up to us.  We have to make our own choices.

私はこの世の生涯が試しとテストの時期であることを知っています。私は学ぶよう聖典が与えられていることを知っています。私たちには素晴らしい教師が与えられていることを知っています。あと残りは私たち自身に懸かっています。私たちは自分で選択をしなければなりません。

Let’s try harder this week to remember why we are here in this “life training program”.  Let’s try harder to study, to practice, and to train.  I know that the reward we will receive will be worth all the effort.

今週、なぜ私たちがこの「人生の研修プログラム」であるこの世にいるのかよく考えて見ましょう。がんばって勉強し、練習し、訓練しましょう。私はそうして受ける報いは、こうした全ての努力をする価値のあるものであると知っています。
