おお、悪しき者の狡猾な策謀よ。おお、人の虚栄と意志の弱さと愚かしさよ。人は学識があると自分は賢いと思い、神の勧告に聞き従わない。そして自分独りで分かると思って神の勧告を無視するので、彼らの知恵は愚かであって役にたたない。そして彼らは滅びるのである。ニーファイ第二書９：２８
O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them nothing. And they shall perish. 2 Nephi 9:28
This is an accurate, but very sad, comment on the “natural man”. It reminds us of the pitfalls of relying only on our own judgement.
これは「生まれながらの人」について正確ではありますが悲しいコメントです。自分自身の判断に頼ることの落とし穴について思い起こさせています。
This scripture warns us against the dangers of being learned.
この聖句は学識があることの危険性について私たちに警告を与えています。
But is it not good to be learned? Are we not taught to get all the education that we can get? Do we not want to be wise?
でも学識があることは悪いことでしょうか？私たちは受けれるすべての教育は教えられることで受けていませんか？あなたは賢くなりたくありませんか？
What is wrong with those things?
それのどこが悪いのでしょうか？
There is nothing wrong with being learned. There is nothing wrong with being well educated. There is nothing wrong with being wise.
学識があることに何も悪いことはありません。よい教育を受けることに何も悪いことはありません。賢いことに何も悪いことはありません。
The danger comes when we begin to think we are smarter than our Church leaders. We begin to think that we know a better way to do things. We begin to see problems with the things we are taught. We begin to “set aside” the counsel of God.
危険なのは教会の指導者より自分は賢いと考え始める時にやってきます。そうすると自分の方が良い方法を知っているとか、教わったことに問題を見つけ始めます。そして神の勧告を「無視する」ようになるのです。
This is one of Satan’s most effective tricks. He appeals to our pride and makes us think that we are wise. He makes us think that we are too smart to listen to the counsel of prophets and apostles. He makes us think that we have better ways to do things.
それはサタンが使う最も効果的な罠です。彼は私たちのプライドに訴え自分は賢いと思わせます。賢いので預言者や使徒の勧告を聴く必要はないと思わせます。彼は自分にはもっと良い方法があると思わせます。
He makes us think that our leaders are “old fashioned”. He makes us think that they don’t understand today’s culture. He makes us think that they are too strict.
彼は私たちの指導者は「考えが古い」と思わせたり、指導者たちは今の文化を理解してないと思わせます。また彼らは厳しすぎると思わせます。
This is a “cunning plan of the evil one”. It is an easy trick that catches many of us.
それは「悪しき者の狡猾な策謀」です。実に多くの人が簡単に騙されやすい罠です。
Those who fall into this trap will someday understand their mistakes. They will see that their “wisdom” was really foolishness. They will recognize that their own wisdom did not help them.
この罠に落ちた者はいつの日かその間違いに気が付くことになります。彼らの「知恵」が愚かだったことに気が付き、自分自身の知恵は役に立たなかったことを理解します。
Nephi says that the result of not listening to the counsel of God is that “they shall perish”.
ニーファイは神の勧告に聞き従わない結果で「彼らは滅びる」と述べています。
What does that mean?
それはどういう意味でしょう？
It doesn’t mean that they will die a physical death. It means that they will die a spiritual death. They will be unable to progress and enjoy the great eternal blessings that are promised to the faithful and humble followers of Jesus Christ.
肉体的な死を意味しているわけではありません。霊的な死を意味しています。彼らは成長できず忠実で謙遜なイエス・キリストの従者に約束された偉大な永遠の祝福を楽しめないということです。
How do we protect ourselves against this trick of Satan’s?
ではどのようにサタンの狡猾な罠から自分自身を守ることが出来るでしょう？
We do the same simple things that we have been taught to do. We need to say our prayers each day. We need to read from The Book of Mormon each day. We need to attend all of our Sunday meetings. We need to serve in our callings. We need to keep the commandments.
私たちが何度も教えられてきた簡単なことを行うのです。毎日お祈りをする必要があります。毎日モルモン書を読む必要があります。日曜日のすべての集会に出席する必要があります。与えられた召しを果たす必要があります。戒めを守る必要があります。
Most of all, we need to be humble. We need to recognize the limits of our understanding. We need to hearken to the counsel of God. We need to hold fast to the iron rod.
そして最も大切なのは謙遜であることです。自分自身の理解力には限界がある事を認める必要があります。神の勧告を聴くこと、つまり鉄の棒をしっかり掴んでいる必要があります。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember to place the proper value on learning. Let’s use learning to help us be more humble. Let’s be wise and follow the counsel of God. Let’s not be foolish!
学ぶことに正しく適切な価値を理解し、新しい週を過ごしましょう。更に謙遜になるために学びましょう。賢く、神の勧告に従いましょう。愚か者とならないようにしましょう。
