忠実の者はすべてのものに打ち勝ち、終わりの日に高く上げられるであろう。
教義と聖約 ７５：１６
And he who is faithful shall overcome all things, and shall be lifted up at the last day.
Doctrine & Covenants 75:16
This scripture is from a revelation given by the Lord to the Prophet Joseph Smith during a conference of the Church in January of 1832. In this revelation, the Lord calls a number of elders to serve missions and gives them instructions on where to serve.
この聖句は1832 年の教会の大会中に預言者ジョセフ・スミスに主が与えられた啓示です。この啓示で主は何人かの長老を宣教師として召され何処で奉仕するのか指示を与えられました。
Have you ever thought about the challenges that those early missionaries faced?
あなたは初期の宣教師が経験したチャレンジについて考えてみたことがありますか？
Many of us have had the opportunity to serve as missionaries and have faced challenges. However, our missionary assignments and challenges were nothing like those faced by the early missionaries.
私たちも多くの人が宣教師として仕え、チャレンジも経験したことがあるでしょう。しかし初期の宣教師が経験したアサイメントやチャレンジは私たちのものとは比べものにはなりません。
When you served as a missionary, was there a Mission President? Was there an established Mission boundary? Was there a lesson plan? Was there a functioning Church organization?
あなたが伝道したときは伝道部会長はいましたか？決められた伝道部のエリアがありましたか？レッスンプランもありましたか？機能している教会組織もありましたか？
When I served in Japan, there were no wards or stakes. There were only small branches. But this was a functioning Church organization. Even when we opened a new area for missionary work, we at least knew there were priesthood leaders to guide us and to help us.
私が日本で伝道したときはワードやステークはありませんでした。ただ支部が幾つかあるだけでした。しかしそれが機能している教会の組織でした。新しく伝道活動をするエリアを開く時も、そこには私たちを助け導いてくれる神権指導者がいることだけは分かっていました。
But for those early missionaries, there were none of these things. There was no Mission President. There was no functioning Church organization. There was no lesson plan.
しかし初期の宣教師にはそのようなものは何一つありませんでした。伝道部会長はいませんでした。機能している教会組織やレッスンプランもありませんでした。
They faced great challenges. They had no Church financial system to provide them with funds each month. They were often persecuted by angry people. They had no way to contact a Mission Home for help.
彼らは大きなチャレンジを受けました。毎月必要な資金を用意してくれる教会の財務システムはありませんでした。怒った者から迫害も受けました。助けを求めて連絡できる伝道本部もありませんでした。
In this revelation, the Lord promises them that, if they are faithful, they will overcome all things. The Lord also promises them that they will be “lifted up at the last day”.
この啓示でもし忠実であればどんなことも克服できると主は約束されました。主はまた「終わりの日に高く上げられるであろう」と約束されました。
The same promise applies to us as well. Even though our challenges are different, we all face challenges that try our faith and our patience. We all go through difficult struggles and times of great trial.
私たちにもそれと同じ約束が与えられています。私たちのチャレンジは違ってはいますが、信仰や忍耐が試されるチャレンジを幾つも経験します。私たちは誰でも難しい苦難や試練を経験します。
With those early missionaries, we can take comfort in this promise from the Lord.
その初期の宣教師のように私たちも主からのこの約束に慰めを得ることが出来ます。
As we are faithful, we too shall overcome all things. We too shall be lifted up at the last day.
Notice that nothing in this revelation says that we shall overcome all things today. Nothing in this revelation says that we will never have trials or troubles. Nothing in this revelation says that everything will be easy.
忠実であれば私たちも全ての事を克服することが出来ます。終わりの日に高く上げられます。この啓示では今全てのものに打ち勝てるとは述べていないことに気付いてください。私たちが試練や問題を受けないとも述べていません。なんでも簡単になるとも述べていません。
The promise from the Lord is that, if we are faithful, we shall overcome all things. The timing of that depends upon the will of the Lord.
主の約束は私たちが忠実であればどんなことでも克服できるということです。その時期は主の御心によります。
While we do not know the exact timing of when we shall be freed from trials and hardships, we do know that we will be. It may not be until “the last day”, but that time will come.
試練や苦難から解放される時期がいつなのかは分からないですが、必ず解放されることは分かっています。もしかしたら「終わりの時」かもしれませんが必ずその時は来ます。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember to always be faithful. Let’s remember the examples of the early missionaries of the Church. Let’s look forward to the day when we shall “overcome all things”. Let’s be worthy to “be lifted up at the last day”.
忠実であることを忘れず来週も過ごしましょう。初期の教会の宣教師の模範を忘れないようにしましょう。「すべてのものに打ち勝てる」その日を楽しみに待ち望みましょう。「終わりの日に高く上げられる」ようふさわしくありましょう。
