あなたがたのうち、知恵に不足している者があれば、その人は、とがめもせずに惜しみなくすべての人に与える神に、願い求めるがよい。そうすれば、与えられるであろう。ヤコブの手紙１：５
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5
This is perhaps one of the most famous scriptures in the Church today. It was the verse that prompted the young boy Joseph Smith to go to the Sacred Grove and pray.
これは今日の教会でおそらく最もよく知られた聖句の一つではないでしょうか。少年ジョセフ・スミスが聖なる丘に行きお祈りするよう促された聖句です。
There is an important message in this scripture for us as well.
この聖句には私たちにも大切なメッセージが含まれています。
Every day, we are faced with decisions. Every day, we need to choose something. Every day we need to decide what to do.
毎日私たちは決断に迫られます。毎日私たちは何かを選ぶ必要があります。毎日私たちは何をするか決める必要があります。
Some of these decisions are very simple. Some decisions have almost no impact on our eternal progression. It probably does not matter very much whether we choose to wear the black shoes today or the brown shoes.
いくつかの決定はとても簡単なものです。決定のいくつかは私たちの永遠の進歩にとって何の影響もありません。黒い靴と茶色い靴のどちらを今日履こうか決めることは大したことではないでしょう。
Some of these decisions are not so simple. Should we accept a new employment opportunity? Should we move to a new city? Should we purchase a house?
新しい就職の機会を受け入れるべきか？新しい街に引っ越すべきか？家を購入すべきか？など決断のいくつかはそんなに単純ではありません。
Some decisions are very important to our eternal progression. Should we pay a full tithing? Should we attend all of our Sunday meetings? Should we attend the Temple more often?
什分の一を完全に納めるべきか？日曜日の集会すべてに出席すべきか？神殿にもっと頻繁に参入すべきか？など、ある決定は永遠の進歩にとってとても重要なものです。
We all want to make correct decisions. We know that making correct decisions will help us to be happy, both in this life and in the life to come.
私たちは誰でも正しい決定をしたいと思っています。正しい決定をすることはこの世とまた来る世で幸せになるのを助けてくれます。
How can we make correct decisions?
ではどのようにして正しい決断をくだせるでしょう。
When we are sick, we ask a doctor for advice. The doctor will explain to us what is making us sick and what we need to do to become healthy again.
私たちは病気の時に医師に助言を求めます。医師は何が原因で病気になり健康を取り戻すのに何をすべきか説明してくれるでしょう。
When we have a legal problem, we ask an attorney for advice. The attorney will explain to us what the laws are and what our options are to resolve the problem.
法的な問題があるとき弁護士に助言を求めます。弁護士は問題を解決するのにどんな選択肢があるか説明してくれるでしょう。
When we have a financial or tax problem, we ask a CPA for advice. The CPA will explain to us what the tax regulations are and how we can minimize our tax liability.
私たちに経済上や税法上の問題があるとき公認会計士に助言を求めます。公認会計士は税法やどうしたら税金を軽減できるか説明してくれるでしょう。
In each of these cases, we are given advice by an expert. In most cases, if we follow the advice we were given, we will be able to be successful.
こうした個々の状況で私たちは専門家から助言を受けます。殆どの場合、聞いた助言に従えば、事はうまくいきます。
When we have decisions to make about eternal things, should we not as the ultimate “expert”? The Lord knows exactly what is right for us to do. He knows what is best for us. He wants us to be successful and happy.
永遠にかかわる事柄について決定することがある場合、究極の「専門家」に尋ねないでしょうか？主は私たちにとってどうするのが正しいか確かにご存知です。私たちにとって何が一番かご存知です。主は私たちが成功し幸せになることを望んでおられます。
If we are keeping the commandments, if we are doing our best to follow Jesus Christ, if we are willing to follow the counsel we are given, the Lord will guide us and help us to make correct decisions.
戒めを守っているならば、またイエス・キリストに従うよう最善を尽くしているならば、与えられる勧告に従いたいと望んでいるならば、主は私たちが正しい決定ができるよう導き、助けてくださいます。
The answer may not come immediately. The answer may not be the answer we are expecting. The answer may require faith on our part. But the right answer will come at the proper time.
答えはすぐには来ないかもしれません。答えは期待しているものとは違うかもしれません。答えを受けるには私たちの信仰が求められるかもしれません。しかし正しい答えが適切な時に必ずやってきます。
Let’s remember to seek expert advice from the ultimate “expert”. Let’s turn to the Lord for direction in our lives. Let’s follow the promptings that we are given. This is the way to peace and happiness.
究極の「専門家」からの最高の助言を求めることを忘れないようにしましょう。心を主に向け私たちの生活で必要な指示を仰ぎましょう。受ける霊の促しに従いましょう。それが平安と幸福への道なのです。
