また主がだれかに、主の救いにあずかってはならないと命じられたことがあるだろうか。見よ、わたしはあなたがたに言う。そのようなことはない。むしろ主は、すべての人に救いを無料で授けてこられた。そして、すべての人に悔い改めを説き勧めるよう、主の民に命じてこられた。ニーファイ第二書２６：２７
Hath he commanded any that they should not partake of his salvation? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; but he hath given it free for all men; and he hath commanded his people that they should persuade all men to repentance. 2 Nephi 26:27
In this short scripture, the prophet Nephi teaches us two important lessons.
この短い聖句の中で預言者ニーファイは２つ大切なレッスンを私たちに教えています。
First of all, he reminds us that we are all children of God. As children of God, each person on this earth should have an opportunity to hear the gospel. Everyone is qualified to receive the gospel. No one is denied an opportunity to hear the gospel, to repent, and to be saved.
まず最初に私たちは皆、神の子であることを忘れないようにと教えています。神の子なので誰もが福音を聞く機会があるはずです。誰もが福音を受け入れる資格を持っています。誰一人福音を聞くことや悔い改め、救われることから拒絶されることはないのです。
It is not up to us to decide who is “worthy” to hear the gospel. Sometimes we judge other people by the way they dress, the way they act, or the way they talk. If they dress or act or talk differently than we do, we may be uncomfortable talking to them. We don’t want to share the message of the gospel with them.
誰が福音を聞くのに「ふさわしい」か決めるのは私たちではないのです。時々私たちは他の人を服装や行動、話し方などからその人を裁いてしまいます。もし彼らが私たちとは違う服装や言動を持っていると私たちは彼らと話すことを快く感じないかもしれません。彼らに福音の教えを分かち合いたくないと感じたりします。
But Nephi teaches us that this is not right.
しかしニーファイはそうであってはいけないと教えています。
Nephi reminds us that the gospel was given freely to us. Not one of us had to pay anything to receive the gospel. The gospel is not reserved only for the rich. It is not reserved only for those who dress or act or talk the same way we do. It is not reserved just for the people in one country.
ニーファイは福音は誰にでも自由に与えられていることを忘れないようにと教えています。福音を知るために何も支払う必要はありません。福音は裕福な人のためだけに取って置かれた訳ではありません。私たちと同じような服装や言動をする人のためだけに取って置かれたわけでもありません。またある一つの国のためだけに取って置かれたわけでもありません。
The gospel is for every one of Heavenly Father’s children. It does not matter how they dress or how they act or what language they speak. It does not matter where they were born or where they now live. It does not matter if they have made bad choices in their lives.
福音は天父の子供全員のためにあります。彼らがどんな服装や行動、話す言葉を持っているかなど関係ないのです。どこで生まれ今どこに住んでいるかなど関係ないのです。彼らの人生で間違った選択をしたことがあるかなど関係ないのです。
The only thing that matters is that each one is a spirit child of Heavenly Father. He loves each one of them just as much as he loves us.
重要なのは誰もが天父の霊の子供であるということです。天父は私たちを愛しておられると同じように彼ら一人ひとりも愛しておられるのです。
In families, parents expect the older children to help the younger children. The older brothers and sisters are expected to help the younger children learn the things that all children must learn. It would be very strange if the older brothers or sisters just ignored the younger children and did not try to help them.
家族では両親は年長の子供に年下の世話をすることを期待します。年上の兄弟姉妹はすべての子供が学ぶべきことを年下の兄弟が学ぶ助けをするよう期待されています。もし年上の兄弟姉妹が年下の子供たちを無視して何も助けなかったらとてもおかしなことです。
In a spiritual sense, we who have been blessed with the gospel are the “older” brothers and sisters to those of Heavenly Father’s “younger” children who have not yet received the gospel. Having learned about the blessings and happiness that comes from the gospel, our Heavenly parents expect us to help our younger brothers and sisters.
霊的な概念において、福音の祝福を受けている私たちは福音をまだ知らない天父の「年下の」子どもたちにとって年上の兄弟姉妹なのです。福音から来る祝福や幸福を学んでいる今、天の両親は私たちに年下の兄弟姉妹を助けるよう期待しておられます。
In fact, in this scripture, Nephi reminds us that helping our “younger” brothers and sisters is a commandment from God. Nephi says very clearly that God has “commanded his people that they should persuade all men to repentance”.
事実、この聖句でニーファイは私たちに「年下の」兄弟姉妹を助けることは神様からの戒めであると思い起こさせています。ニーファイは「すべての人に悔い改めを説き勧めるよう」はっきりと述べています。
If we want to keep the commandments, we need to help our “younger” brothers and sisters learn about the gospel. It does not matter who they are, what they look like, or what language they speak. We have been commanded to help them.
もし戒めを守りたければ「年下の」兄弟姉妹が福音について学べるよう助ける必要があります。彼らが誰だとか、見た格好がどうとか、どんな言葉を使うとか、そんなことは関係ありません。私たちは彼らを助けるよう戒められているのです。
I know that we can do more to help our “younger” brothers and sisters learn about Heavenly Father’s great plan of happiness. I know that we can pray for opportunities to share the gospel. I know that we can overcome fear. I know that we can be the hands and mouth of the Lord.
私たちは「年下の」兄弟姉妹が天父の偉大な幸福の計画を学ぶよう助けるためにもっと出来ると私は知っています。福音を分かち合う機会を求めてお祈りすることが出来ると私は知っています。恐れを克服できると知っています。私たちは主の手や口となれることを私は知っています。
Let’s actively look for small opportunities to share the gospel with those around us. Let’s pray for guidance to know what the Lord wants us to do. Let’s be more active in helping our Heavenly parents by helping our “younger” brothers and sisters this week.
周りの人に福音を分かち合う小さな機会を積極的に探してみましょう。主が私たちに何をして欲しいと望んでおられるかわかるよう導きを求めて祈りましょう。今週「年下の」兄弟姉妹を助けることで天の両親のお手伝いをもっと積極的にしてみましょう。
