そして、わたしの言葉が響き渡るので、多くの異邦人は、『聖書か、聖書か。我々はすでに聖書を持っている。これ以外に聖書があるはずがない』と言う。ニーファイ第二書２９：３
And because my words shall hiss forth — many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible and there cannot be any more Bible. 2 Nephi 29:3
This short scripture was given by Nephi when he prophesied of the coming forth of the Book of Mormon in the last days.
この短い聖句はニーファイが末日にモルモン書が出現することを予言した時のものです。
It has always seemed strange to me that people would reject the Book of Mormon and believe that the Bible was the only written word of God. If they read the Bible, they would know that there are many original books missing from the Bible.
人々がモルモン書を拒絶し、聖書だけが神のみ言葉を記録したものだと信じていることが私はずっと不思議に思っていました。聖書を読むならば、その原書から多くが失われていることがわかるはずだからです。
If people want to know about Jesus Christ, they would want to read everything that testifies of him.
もしイエス・キリストについて知りたければキリストを証ししているものはすべて読みたいと思うことでしょう。
After the Apostles had all been killed, and the priesthood taken from the earth, many important teachings and principles were lost. The men who controlled the Christian faith in those days rejected many of the teachings of Jesus Christ. They removed those teachings from the records that were to become the Bible.
使徒が全員殺された後、地上から神権が取り去られ多くの大切な教えと原則が失われました。当時キリスト教を統制していた人々はイエス・キリストの教えの多くを拒絶しました。結果、彼らは後に聖書となるその記録から多くを削除したのです。
In the Middle Ages, when the gospel had been lost from the earth, people still were seeking for truth and for knowledge about Jesus Christ. They had very little information, though. Because of this, people often were deceived by wicked men.
地上から福音が失われた中世のころ、人々は真理とイエス・キリストの知識を続けて探し求めていました。彼らには限られた情報しかありませんでした。そのため人々は邪悪な人によって欺かれました。
One of the things that sometimes happened was called “A Letter From Heaven”. Someone would claim that they had found a special letter that had “fallen from heaven”. They claimed that this “letter from heaven” was a true revelation from God. They claimed that it contained secret information. They told the people that they could learn the secret information if they paid money.
しばしば起こっていたことの一つに「天からの手紙」と呼ばれるものがありました。誰かが「天から落ちてきた」特別な手紙を見つけたと主張し、それは「天からの手紙」で神からの真の啓示であると主張しました。それには隠された情報が含まれており、お金を払えばその隠された情報を知ることができると人々に主張していたのです。
Even today, the situation is not very different. Many people in the world want to know about Jesus Christ. They want to learn about his teachings. They want to follow him. But they do not know how to do that.
今日でもその状況は大してかわりません。世の多くの人はイエス・キリストについて知りたいと望んでいます。キリストの教えを学び、従いたいと望んでいます。しかしどうしたらそれができるのかわかりません。
If an archeologist claimed to have found an ancient document that talked about Jesus Christ, it would probably be on all the TV news shows. People would be very excited about it. People would want to read it.
もし考古学者がイエス・キリストについて書かれている古代の文書を見つけたと主張すれば、全ニュース番組で取り上げられるでしょう。人々はとても興奮し、それを読みたいと考えるでしょう。
And yet, for almost 200 years, the Book of Mormon has been available to everyone. It boldly claims to be a companion to the Bible, testifying of Jesus Christ. It claims to have been translated by the power of God. It claims to contain the gospel of Jesus Christ.
しかし、ほぼ200 年もの間、モルモン書はすべての人が手に入れられる状況下にありました。聖書と対になるものでありイエス・キリストを証していることをはばかることなく主張しています。それは神の力により翻訳されたこと、またイエス・キリストの福音を含んでいることを主張しています。
Since it was first published, people have attacked the Book of Mormon as a fraud. They have tried to prove that it was just a book written by Joseph Smith. They have claimed that is was a fake.
最初に出版されて以来、それが偽物だと人々は非難し攻撃してきました。彼らはそれがジョセフ・スミスによって書かれた本にすぎないと証明しようと試みてきました。彼らはそれが偽物だと主張してきました。
But after all that time, no one has been able to prove that it is not true. In fact, millions of people have sincerely read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it and have gained a testimony of its truthfulness. The Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ and a testimony that the prophecies of Nephi and many other prophets are true.
しかし今に至っても誰一人それが真実でないことを証明できていません。事実、多くの人はモルモン書を誠心誠意読み、それについて祈ることでその真実性について証を得ています。モルモン書はイエス・キリストを証しするもう一つの書物であり、ニーファイや他多くの預言者の予言が確かであることを証しています。
We have a duty to read the Book of Mormon. Reading the Book of Mormon brings great peace and spirituality into our lives. Reading the Book of Mormon will strengthen our testimony of Jesus Christ. Reading the Book of Mormon will help us get through trials and difficult times.
私たちにはモルモン書を読む義務があります。モルモン書を読むことで素晴らしい平安と霊性が私たちの生活にもたらされます。モルモン書を読むことでイエス・キリストへの証が強められます。モルモン書を読むことで私たちは試練や苦難を乗り越える助けを得ます。
If you have not read the Book of Mormon recently, now would be a good time to read it again. It will be great blessings into your life.
モルモン書を最近読んでいなければ今もう一度読んで下さい。あなたの生活に素晴らしい祝福をもたらしてくれることでしょう。
I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that he translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God. I know that we have a duty to read it often.
私はモルモン書が確かであることを知っています。ジョセフ・スミスが神の預言者でありモルモン書を神の力によって翻訳したことを知っています。私たちは努めてそれを頻繁に読む必要があることを私は知っています。
