まことに、あなたがたは、これからも自分の座に着いていることができ、神の深い慈しみのおかげで何もすることなく神によって救われると考えることができるでしょうか。まことに、そのように考えているのであれば、それはむなしことです。アルマ書６０：１１
Behold, could ye suppose that ye could sit upon your thrones, and because of the exceeding goodness of God ye could do nothing and he would deliver you? Behold, if ye have supposed this ye have supposed in vain. Alma 60:11
During the great battles between the Nephites and the Lamanites, Captain Moroni needed more men and more supplies. He wrote a letter the Pahoran, the chief judge, reminding Pahoran of his duties. We can also learn an important lesson from Captain Moroni’s words.
ニーファイ人とレーマン人の大戦の中、司令官モロナイは更なる兵と物資が必要でした。彼は国の総督であるパホーランに手紙を書き、彼の義務を思い起こさせています。私たちもモロナイの言葉から大切なレッスンを学ぶことができます。
We all know that this life is a time of trial and testing. We are each given “tests” to help us grow. These tests, challenges, and trials can be very difficult. They can sometimes seem impossible to overcome.
私たちは人生が試練や試しの時期であることを理解しています。私たちの誰もが成長を助けてくれる「テスト」を受けます。そのテストなり試しは時としてとても困難で、克服不可能にも思えます。
The Lord has told us that he will always be there to help us with our trials. He will never leave us alone. He wants to bless us and to comfort us.
主は私たちが試練の中にいる時でも助ける準備をし待っていると言われました。主は決して私たちを一人にはされません。私たちを祝福し、慰め、元気づけてくださいます。
So why does it sometimes seem like the Lord is not answering our prayers? Why does it sometimes seem like we are not receiving any blessings? Why does it sometimes seem like we are all alone?
それでは何故、主が私たちの祈りに答えられないように感じる時があるのでしょう。何故、私たちは何も祝福を受けないように感じる時があるのでしょう。何故、私たちは一人ぼっちのように思える時があるのでしょう。
There are some trials that we need to experience in the life in order to learn important lessons. We need the experience of those trials in order to progress.
私たちの人生では大切なレッスンを学ぶために幾つかの試練を経験をする必要があります。私たちは進歩成長するためにそうした試練を経験する必要があるのです。
Sometimes, the Lord does not immediately remove the trial or difficulty from our lives. Sometimes, it is important for us to struggle to find the solution to a particular problem. Sometimes, we are expected to use our own knowledge and understanding to help solve a problem.
主は私たちの人生から試練や困難をすぐに取り除いてくださらない時があります。特定の問題の解決策を見つける為にあえて苦しむことが必要なこともあります。また問題解決のために自分がすでに持っている知識と理解力を使うことを期待されることもあります。
That is the message that Captain Moroni gives us.
それが司令官モロナイの私たちへのメッセージなのです。
Captain Moroni tells us we are mistaken if we think that we can just pray for a trial to be over, without any effort on our part, and that the Lord will immediately remove the trial.
司令官モロナイは試練が取り去られるよう、また自分のすべきこともせずに主がすぐにその試練を取り除いてくれるようにただ祈るだけで良いと考えるのは間違いだと述べています。
He explains very clearly that we must use all of our own efforts, knowledge, and strength to solve a problem. We are expected to do all that we can on our own first. Once we have done our best to solve a problem, we can then ask the Lord for his help.
彼は自分が出来る限りの努力をし、持っているすべての知識と力を使って問題を解決しなければならないとはっきり説明しています。私たちはまず自分の出来る限りを尽くすように期待されています。問題を解決するよう最善を尽くした後、初めて主に助けを求めれるのです。
Someone once said, “Sometimes, when we ask the Lord to move a mountain for us, we are offended when he provides us with a shovel”.
ある人がこのようなことを言いました。「私たちが主に山を動かしていただくようお願いする時、主がシャベルを渡してくださることに憤慨することがある」と。
The Lord always expects to do our best. He is always there, ready to help. But without our own efforts, we would not grow. If every problem were immediately taken away, we would not have the opportunity to learn the important lessons that we are here to learn.
主は私たちに最善をつくすことを常に期待しておられます。主はいつでも私たちを助ける準備をし待っておられます。しかし私たちは自分で努力をせずに成長することなどありえません。もしどんな問題も即座に取り除かれれば私たちはこの世に来て学ぶべき大切なレッスンを学ぶ機会をなくしてしまいます。
Remember the example of Nephi and his brothers, when they were sent back to get the Brass Plates from Laban. This was a very critical assignment. Without the Brass Plates, Lehi and his family and all his future descendants would not have access to the scriptures. The Lord knew how important this task was. The Lord could have performed a miracle and had the Brass Plates ready and waiting for Nephi and his brothers to pick up without any effort on their part.
ニーファイと彼の兄弟がレーバンから真鍮板を取ってくるよう送り返された時のことを思い出してください。それはとても危険を伴う務めでした。その真鍮板なしではリーハイと彼の家族、将来の子孫全員、聖典に親しむことができませんでした。主はこれがどれ程大切な務めなのかご存知でした。主は奇跡を起こし真鍮板を準備させニーファイと彼の兄弟が何の努力もせず引き取りに来るのを待つようにすることができたはずです。
But that is not the way it worked. It took Nephi and his brothers three difficult attempts before they succeeded. The Lord did not give them success immediately. He required them to struggle to find the right answer.
しかしそのようにはならないのです。ニーファイと彼の兄弟は成功するまで三度試みたのです。主は彼らに直ぐ成功を与えませんでした。主は彼らが正しい答えを得るようあえて苦しむことを要求しました。
As we go through life this week, let’s remember Captain Moroni’s words and the example of Nephi. Let’s remember that the Lord expects each of us to do our best. We cannot just “sit upon our thrones” and expect the Lord to do all the work. Let’s do our part each day to be happier.
司令官モロナイの言葉とニーファイの模範を忘れないように今週を過ごしましょう。主が私たちに最善を尽くすよう期待しておられることを忘れないようにしましょう。私たちはただ「自分の座に着いて」主がすべて行ってくださるなどと期待してはいけません。幸せになるため自分のすべき事を行いましょう。
