また、心を高めて喜び、あなたが交わした聖約を固く守りなさい。教義と聖約２５：１３
Wherefore, lift up thy heart and rejoice, and cleave unto the covenants which thou hast made.
Doctrine & Covenants 25:13
This scripture was given through the Prophet Joseph Smith to his wife, Emma Smith. In this revelation, Emma was given many instructions and much counsel from the Lord.
この聖句は預言者ジョセフ・スミスを通して妻のエマ・スミスに与えられたものです。この啓示でエマは多くの指示と勧告を主から受けています。
This verse applies to us as well as to Emma.
これはエマだけでなく私たちにも当てはまるものです。
In this world, we have many trials and difficulties. Some trials are over quickly. Some trials may last for many years. Trials are hard. Trials are difficult. Trials are unpleasant.
私たちはこの世で多くの試練や苦難を経験します。ある試練はすぐに通過しますが、あるものは何年も続きます。試練は辛く困難であり、とても不愉快なものです。
But, trials also help us to grow. Trials help us to have greater faith in Jesus Christ. Trials help us to strengthen our spiritual “muscles”. Trials are a necessary part of our mortal experience.
しかし試練は私たちを成長させてもくれます。試練はイエス・キリストへの更なる信仰を私たちに与えてくれ、私たちの霊の「筋肉」を強めてくれます。試練はこの死すべき世では必要な経験なのです。
Without trials, we would not be able to learn the lessons that we came here to learn. Without trials, we would not be able to improve and advance. Without trials, we would not be able to show Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ that we love them and want to follow them.
試練がなくては私たちはこの世に来て学ぶべきレッスンを習得できないでしょう。私たちは進歩も前進もできません。試練がなくては私たちが天父とイエス・キリストを愛しており、従いたい気持ちを示すことができません。
Emma Smith had many very difficult trials in her life.
エマ・スミスは彼女の人生においてとても困難な試練がありました。
In this short scripture, the Lord gives us some important instruction on how we should react to the difficult trials that we face each day.
この短い聖句で主は私たちが毎日直面する困難な試練にどう向き合うべきかといった大切な指示を幾つか私たちに与えておられます。
The Lord says, “Lift up thy heart and rejoice”. In spite of Emma’s many trials, the Lord expected her to be happy and rejoice. The Lord expects us to be happy and rejoice as well.
主は「心を高めて喜びなさい」と言われています。エマの多くの試練に関わらず、主は彼女に幸せで喜びを持つよう期待しておられました。主は私たちにも同じように幸せで喜びを持つよう期待しておられます。
How can we do that when we have difficult trials?
私たちは難しい試練の中でどのようにそうすることができるのでしょう？
The Lord tells us that we must “cleave unto the covenants” that we have made.
主は私たちが交わした「聖約を固く守りなさい」と言われています。
We have all made covenants with the Lord. We made covenants with the Lord when we were baptized. We renew those covenants each week as we partake of the sacrament. Many of us have also made additional covenants with the Lord as we have attended the Temple.
私たちは皆、主と聖約をかわしています。バプテスマを受けた時、主と聖約を交わしました。私たちは毎週聖餐をとる時この聖約を更新します。また私たちの多くは神殿に参入する時、さらなる聖約を交わしています。
The Lord teaches us that, in spite of our trials, we can be happy as we remember the great blessings that have been promised to those who keep the covenants they have made.
主は私たちが受ける試練に関わらず交わした聖約を守るものに約束された素晴らしい祝福を覚えているなら私たちは幸せでいられるということを教えておられます。
We need to develop an eternal perspective on life. Mortal life is difficult, but that is all part of the plan. It is by keeping our covenants, even in times of trial, that we become worthy to receive the greatest blessings.
私たちは永遠のものの見方を伸ばしていかなければなりません。死すべきこの世は楽ではありませんが、それは救いの計画に必要なものなのです。聖約を守ることで私たちは試練の時でも最高の祝福を受けるにふさわしくなれるのです。
We keep our covenants by always choosing the right. We keep our covenants by attending our Church meetings. We keep our covenants by serving those who need help. We keep our covenants by saying our prayers each day. We keep our covenants by studying the scriptures.
As we keep our covenants, we will be able to “lift up our hearts and rejoice”. We will be able to find peace in this life. We will be able to endure our trials more easily.
私たちは聖約を守るために次のことを行います。常に正しいことを選ぶ。教会の集会に出席する。誰か助けのいる人を助ける。毎日お祈りをする。聖典を学ぶ、など。
私たちは聖約を守る時「心を高めて喜ぶ」事ができるようになります。この世で平安を見つけることができます。試練をもっと耐えやすくなります。
I know that, as we keep our covenants, we will receive all the blessings promised to the faithful. We will be blessed and guided through the difficult times. We will grow and increase in faith.
私たちが聖約を守る時、忠実なものに約束されたすべての祝福を享受できることを知っています。私たちは困難な時にも祝福され導かれるのです。私たちは成長し信仰を増していきます。
Let’s all “lift up our hearts and rejoice” this week as we try to more fully “cleave unto the covenants” that we have made. Let’s try to develop an eternal perspective that looks beyond the day to day trials to the great blessings that have been promised to us.
今週、私たちが交わした「聖約を固く守る」よう更に努力するとき「心を高めて喜ぶ」ようにしましょう。日々の試練の先にある私たちに約束されたすばらしい祝福に目をやる永遠の見方を伸ばすよう努力しましょう。
