また、一つの戒めを、わたしは彼らに与える。すなわち、祈るべきときに主の前に祈りをすることを守らない者が、わたしの民の判士の前に覚えられるようにしなさい。
教義と聖約６８：３３
And now a commandment I give unto them — that he that observeth not his prayers before the Lord in the season thereof, let him be had in remembrance before the judge of my people.

This revelation, given to the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1831, contains a very clear explanation of our duties as followers of Jesus Christ.
１８３１年、預言者ジョセフ・スミスに与えられたこの啓示は私たちイエス・キリストに従う者の義務を明確に説明しています。
In this revelation we are given a commandment to pray always. This is the very same commandment that is given many other times in the scriptures.
この啓示で私たちは常に祈るよう戒められています。聖典の幾多の箇所でこの同じ戒めが記されています。
In fact, this same commandment is given 16 times in the New Testament, 18 times in the Book of Mormon, and 43 times in the Doctrine & Covenants.
事実、この同じ戒めは新約聖書では16回、モルモン書では18回、教義と誓約では43回も出てきます。
Because it is given to us so many times, we can draw 2 conclusions.
そのように頻繁に教えられていることから、私たちは二つの結論にたどり着くことができます。
One, it must be a very important commandment.
まず、これはとても重要な戒めだと言うことです。
Two, we don’t do a very good job of keeping this commandment.
そしてもう一つは私たちはこの戒めをあまりよく守っていないということです。
It is a great blessing to be able to pray to our Heavenly Father. It is through prayer that we can receive guidance for the decisions we make each day. It is through prayer that we can obtain help for ourselves, our families, and our friends. It is through prayer that we can gain strength to resist the temptations of Satan.
天父にお祈りできることは素晴らしい祝福です。私たちが日々決定することに導きを受けれるのは祈りを通してです。私たちが自分自身や家族、友達のために助けを得られるのは祈りを通してです。サタンの誘惑に打ち勝つ力を得られるのは祈りを通してです。
We all know that. We all know that prayer is important. So why is it so hard sometimes to remember to pray?
それは誰もが知っています。祈りが大切な事も知っています。では何故私たちは時々祈りを忘れるのでしょう？
Satan also knows how powerful pray can be. He does not want us to pray. He does not want us to receive blessings. He does not want us to be happy. So he works very hard to convince us not to pray.
サタンは祈りがどれ程の力を持っているか知っています。彼は私たちに祈って欲しくありません。私たちに祝福を受けて欲しくないと思っています。私たちが幸せにならないよう願っています。ですからサタンは私たちに祈らなくてよいと必死に説得します。
We need to choose each day whether we will follow Jesus Christ or follow Satan. If we want to follow Jesus Christ, we must do those things that he has taught us. We must say our prayers each day.
私たちは毎日イエス・キリストに従うか、サタンに従うか選択しなければなりません。イエス・キリストに従いたければキリストが教えられたことを行なわねばなりません。毎日祈らなければならないのです。
Prayers do not have to be long. Prayers do not have to have the same words each time. Prayers do not have to be formal or memorized.
祈りは長くする必要などありません。祈りは同じ言葉を繰り返す必要もありませんし、型にはまった覚えたものである必要もありません。
Rather, when we pray, we should talk to Heavenly Father just as we would talk to our own parents or our own friends. Heavenly Father is real and he does listen to our prayers. We can share with him our deepest desires and our burdens. We should always remember to thank Heavenly Father for all the wonderful blessings that we receive each day.
むしろ祈るとき、両親や友人と話しをするように天父にお話しすべきです。天父は実在し私たちの祈りをお聞きになります。私たちの抱える重荷や心からの願いを天父に分かちあえるのです。毎日授かる素晴らしい祝福を天父に感謝することを忘れないようにしましょう。
Prayers are answered.
祈りは答えられます。
That does not mean that an angel will appear. It does not mean that the answer will come immediately. It does not mean that the answer will be exactly what we want.
それは天使が現れると言うことではありません。祈りの答えがすぐに来るということでもありません。それは祈りの答えが望んでいる通りに与えられるということでもありません。
It does mean that Heavenly Father hears our prayers and will always answer them in his own time and in his own way. He knows what is best for us. Sometimes, we need to go through some trials or difficulties in order to learn.
それは天父は私たちの祈りをお聞きになり、天父が最も良いと考えられる時に、天父の方法でいつも答えられると言う意味なのです。天父は何が私たちに一番良いのかご存知です。時折、私たちはいくらかの試練や困難を経験し学ぶ必要があります。
Let’s focus on remembering to say our prayers this week. We can pray as individuals. We can pray as couples. We can pray as families. Let’s make this week a week of pray. I know if we do this, we will receive all the promised blessings.
今週、祈りを捧げることを忘れないよう注意していましょう。個人で祈ることが出来ます。夫婦として共に祈ることが出来ます。家族で祈ることが出来ます。今週を祈りの週にしましょう。私たちはそうすれば約束されたすべての祝福を享受できると知っています。
