しかし聖書に書いてあるとおり、『目がまだ見ず、耳がまだ聞かず、人の心に思い浮かびもしなかったことを、神は、ご自分を愛する者たちのために備えられた』のである。コリント人の第一の手紙２：９
But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
I think we all agree that this life is difficult. We all have many trials and hardships. Some trials may be over quickly, but other trials continue on for years.
人生は楽ではないというのは皆さんの誰もが私と同じ気持ちではないでしょうか。誰にでも試練や苦難はあります。ある試練はすぐに過ぎ去り、またある試練は何年も続きます。
It is hard to do all the things that we know we should do. We need to say our prayers each day. We need to study the scriptures. We need to attend our Church meetings. We need to serve others.
すべきとわかっている事をすべて行うのは易しくありません。毎日お祈りや聖典の勉強を欠かかしてはいけませんし、教会の集会にも参加しなければなりません。誰かのために尽くさねばなりません。
We know we should do those things. But when trials come along, maybe sickness or poor health, loss of employment, the death of a loved one, or any other trial, it is hard to have the strength to keep moving forward on the straight and narrow path.
私たちはそうしなければならないことは分かっています。しかし試練、例えば病気や健康の問題、失業、愛する者の死、等どんな試練でもやってくると真っすぐで狭い道を前進し続けることが難しくなります。
The Lord knows all this. He knows that these trials are difficult. He knows how we struggle under these burdens.
主はそんなことは全てご存知です。それらの試練が困難であることもご存知です。それらの重荷で私たちがどれほど苦しんでいるかもご存知です。
To help us endure these trials, he has given us the scriptures. The scriptures tell us of other people who have endured great trials. We can take hope from their examples.
そういった試練に耐えれるよう主は聖典を用意してくださいました。聖典は大きな試練を耐えてきた人々について記されています。
The scriptures also tell of the blessings that come to those who are faithful and obedient. We read in the scriptures about people who faced great trials and who were saved by the blessings of the Lord. We learn about people who were protected by the Lord.
聖典は忠実で従順なものが受ける祝福について記されています。私たちは聖典を読むことで大きな試練を受けた人々や主の祝福に救われた人々のことについて学びます。主に守られた人々についても学びます。
The scriptures also teach us about Heavenly Father’s great Plan of Happiness. The Plan of Happiness is not just for the future. Heavenly Father wants us to be happy now, today, even in spite of our trials.
聖典は天父の偉大な「幸福の計画」について教えています。「幸福の計画」はただ将来のためにあるのではありません。天父はたとえ私たちが試練の中にあっても今、幸せであって欲しいと望んでおられるのです。
Most importantly, the scriptures tell us about the blessings that those who keep the commandments and endure to the end will receive.
もっとも大切なのは、聖典が戒めを守り最後まで耐えるものが受ける祝福について教えていることです。
In this scripture, we are taught about how wonderful those blessings will be. It says that no one can even imagine how wonderful the blessings will be that God has prepared for those that love him. Those blessings are available to anyone who loves the Lord and keeps his commandments.
この聖句で、その祝福がどれ程すばらしいものか教えています。神を愛するもののために用意されたその祝福がどれほどすばらしいものなのか誰ひとり想像できないと述べています。その祝福は主を愛しその戒めを守るものなら誰でも得られるのです。
As we begin this new year, let us resolve to be worthy of receiving all of the blessings that the Lord has promised to us. Let us make the decision now to do our best to keep the commandments this year. Let us decide to serve others, to help those in need, and to be true examples of followers of Jesus Christ.
新年を始めるにあたり、主が約束されたすべての祝福を受けるにふさわしくあるよう決意しましょう。今年、戒めを守ることに最善を尽くすと決意しましょう。他の誰かに尽くし、助けの必要な誰かを助け、イエス・キリストに従うものの真の模範になると決意しましょう。
If we do these things, we will be worthy to receive blessings in this life and even greater joy in the life to come.
そうするならば私たちはこの世で祝福を、そして来る世では更にすばらしい喜びを受けるにふさわしくなれるのです。
