父はまことに偉大なることを多く兄たちに言ったが、それは主に尋ねないかぎり理解しにくいことであった。兄たちは、心がかたくなであったので、当然なすべきことではあったが、主を仰ぎ見ることをしなかった。ニーファイ第―書１５

For he truly spake many great things unto them, which were hard to be understood, save a man should inquire of the Lord; and they being hard in their hearts, therefore they did not look unto the Lord as they ought.  1 Nephi 15:3

Next weekend, once again, we will have the opportunity to be taught by prophets and apostles.  They will present the messages that the Lord has given them to share with us. Their messages will be considered as scripture and will be the words for us to study during the next six months.

来週末、私たちは再び預言者や使徒から教えを受ける機会があります。彼らは主から私たちのために導きを受けそのメッセージを分かち合ってくれます。彼らのメッセージは聖典であり私たちがこれから六か月間深く考え学ぶ言葉でもあります。

How well we understand those messages will depend upon how well we prepare ourselves.  

そのメッセージを如何に良く理解するかは私たち自身が如何に良く準備するかにかかっています。

If we are casual in our preparation, we will hear interesting messages.  The messages will be positive. The messages will be good. But they will not be messages that change our lives.

もし普段のまま準備も碌にしなくても、私たちが聴くメッセージは面白く、確かで良いものです。しかしそれらは私たちの生活を変えるメッセージとはなりません。

If we prepare ourselves properly to participate in Conference, we will have a very different experience.  

大会に参加するために適切な準備をするならば、私たちはとても違った経験をすることでしょう。

If we prepare ourselves properly to participate in Conference, we will hear not just with our ears, but with our hearts and minds.

大会に参加するために適切な準備をするならば、私たちは耳だけでなく思いと心で聞くのです。

If we prepare ourselves properly to participate in Conference, we will be able to receive the promptings and inspiration from the Holy Ghost.  

大会に参加するために適切な準備をするならば、私たちは聖霊のささやきとひらめきを受けることが出来るでしょう。

If we are prepared, we will hear messages that will change our lives.  We will hear messages that will touch our spirits. We will hear messages that will give us personal guidance.  

もし準備をするならば私たちは生活を変えるメッセージを聴くことになります。自分の霊に響くメッセージを聴き、個人に導きを与えるメッセージを聴くことになります。

How do we prepare ourselves to participate in Conference?

ではどのように大会に参加する準備をしたらよいでしょう？

There are many ways to prepare.  We can re-read the messages from previous General Conferences.  We can ponder in our hearts about problems we need help with. We can read our scriptures.  

準備する方法は沢山あります。前回の総大会のメッセージを読み直したり、助けが必要とする問題について心の中で深く考えてみることが出来ます。聖典を読むことも出来ます。

Most importantly, we can pray, both for the speakers and for ourselves.  We can pray that the speakers will have the Spirit of the Lord as they speak.  We can pray that we will be able to hear the whisperings of the Spirit as we listen with our ears and with our hearts.  We can pray that we will be taught by the Holy Ghost.

そして最も大切なのは話者と自分のために祈ることが出来ます。話者が主の御霊を受けるよう祈ることが出来ます。私たちが耳と心で聴く時に御霊のささやきを聞けるよう祈ることが出来ます。聖霊によって教えを受けるよう祈ることが出来ます。

If we properly prepare, we will receive answers to our prayers.  We will receive guidance for the challenges that we each face. We will be blessed with knowledge and power to go forward in faith.

適切に準備すれば私たちは祈りの答えを受けます。直面する問題の導きを受け、信仰を持って前進する知識と力を祝福されることでしょう。

And, after the Conference is over, we should treat those messages as our guide for the next six months.  We should be diligent in studying the messages when they come in the Ensign or in the Liahona. We can also listen to the messages again on the Church web page.  We have many opportunities to study and learn from the Lord’s prophets and apostles.

総大会終了後はそれらのメッセージを今後六か月の指針として受け止めましょう。教会の刊行誌にそのメッセージが載る時、熱心に研究しましょう。教会のウェブサイトでそのメッセージを再び聴くことも出来ます。他にも主の預言者や使徒から習い学ぶ多くの機会があります。

Let’s prepare well for General Conference.  Let’s do our best to listen with our ears and with our hearts.  Let’s be diligent in studying the messages. Let’s learn what it is that the Lord wants us to understand.

皆さん、総大会のためによく準備しましょう。耳と心で聴けるよう最善を尽くしましょう。そのメッセージを熱心に研究し、主が私たちに理解するよう望んでおられることがよくわかりますように。
