わたしの戒は、これである。わたしがあなたがたを愛したように、あなたがたも互いに愛し合いなさい。ヨハネ１５：１２
This is my commandment, that ye love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12
Toward the end of his mortal ministry, the Savior gave this commandment to his disciples. It is a very clear, very simple statement. It is a commandment to us as well.
救い主はこの地上での教導が終わりに近づいたころ、この戒めを弟子たちに教えられました。それはとても簡潔で分かりやすく、また私たちにも当てはまる教えです。
What is the commandment?
その戒めとは何でしょう？
The commandment is that we are to love one another.
私たちはお互いに愛し合いなさいというものです。
There are no conditions, no exclusions, no limits given in this commandment. We are told to “love one another”.
その戒めには条件や例外、制限などありません。「互いに愛し合いなさい」と教えられているのです。
What is the pattern that we are to follow?
私たちが従うべきお手本は何でしょう？
We are to love one another in the same way the Jesus loved.
私たちはイエス様が愛されたと同じ方法で互いに愛し合わねばなりません。
The Savior showed his love to everyone. In fact, in the short record we have of his mortal ministry, the Savior most often shows his love to those who were on the fringes of society. He did not dine with the wealthy and famous, but rather with the poor and the humble.
救い主は誰にでも愛を示されました。事実、主の現世での教導について書かれた短い記録の中では、救い主はしばしば社会の逸脱者に愛を示しておられます。裕福で人気をある者ではなく、貧しく謙遜なものと食事を共にされました。
Jesus did not limit his love to only those who followed him and listened to his teachings. He did not limit his love to only those who respected him. He did not limit his love to only those who helped him.
イエス様は自分に従い教えを聞く者だけを愛されたのではありません。イエス様を尊敬するものだけを愛されたのではありません。イエス様は助けてくれた者だけを愛されたのでもありません。
In fact, he loved even those who reviled him, who beat him, and who crucified him. Even as he was being tortured and hung on the cross, he said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”.
事実、彼をののしり、叩き、はりつけにした者さえも愛されたのです。イエス様は拷問され十字架にはりつけにされた時も「彼らをおゆるしください。彼らは何をしているのかわからずにいるのです」と言われました。
That is the standard that the Lord has set for us to follow.
それが私たちに従うよう示された愛の標準なのです。
We are to love everyone, just as he did.
主がなさったように私たちは誰をも愛すべきなのです。
We are all very different people. We have different opinions, different experiences, different. Even in our own families, we are different.
私たちは誰もがそれぞれ大きく異なった人間です。違った意見や経験を持っています。家族ですら一人一人異なっているのです。
Our families, our wards, and even our Church is strong not because we are all the same, but because we are all different.
私たちの家族、ワード、教会が強いのは皆が同じだからではありません。それぞれ異なっているからです。
Imagine what it would be like if everyone were just like you. Who would do all the things that you cannot do, or do not want to do, or are not good at doing?
もし全ての人が貴方と同じようだったらどうでしょう？誰が貴方のできないことやしたくないこと、上手く出来ないことをしますか？
While we sometimes think that everything would be wonderful if everyone else would change and become just like us, the truth is that everything would be wonderful if we ourselves would change and be more accepting and loving of others. We are the ones that need to change and to improve.
私たちは時々他の誰もが自分と同じようになってくれたら素晴らしいだろうと感じるかもしれませんが、実のところ私たち自身が変わり、他の人や考えを受け入れ、愛するようになることでその様になるのです。
As we strive to become more like our Savior, we need to be more inclusive in our ability to love others. We need to reach out to those who may have different opinions. We need to reach out to those who may come from a different background. We need to reach out to those who do not believe as we do.
救い主のようになろうとする時、私たちは他の人を愛し受け入れる必要があります。自分と異なる意見を持つ者や自分と違った環境で育った者、自分がすることに同意しない者にも手を差し伸べる必要があります。
The Savior’s commandment is very simple. He set the perfect example of love for us to follow.
救い主の戒めはとても簡単なものです。救い主は私たちのために完璧な愛の模範を示してくださいました。
We can all improve. We can all do better. We can all be better followers of Jesus Christ.
私たちは誰もが進歩成長できます。以前より上手く出来、イエス・キリストのより良い弟子となれるのです。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember this important commandment. Let’s push our boundaries out and extend our love and friendship to those who may be different than we are. Let’s be more inclusive and less exclusive. Let’s love others as Christ has loved us.
この戒めを忘れないように新しい週を過ごしましょう。自分の枠を広げ、自分と異なっている者にも愛と友情を示しましょう。排他的ではなく他の人をもっと受け入れるようになりましょう。キリスト様が私たちを愛されたように私たちも他の人を愛するようにしましょう。
