This revelation was given to the Prophet Joseph Smith in April of 1830, just after the official organization of the Church.
この啓示は1830年に教会が公式に組織された直後、預言者ジョセフスミスに与えられました。
Some people who wanted to join the Church did not want to be baptized. They said they had already been baptized in their previous churches. They thought there was no need to be baptized again.
教会に入りたいと思っていた幾人かはバプテスマを受けたいと思いませんでした。彼らは前の教会で既にバプテスマを受けたと主張し、二度もバプテスマを受ける必要がないと考えていました。
The Lord explained to the Prophet that it did not matter how many times a person had been baptized before the restoration of the priesthood keys. None of those baptisms were valid since they had been performed without priesthood authority.
主は預言者ジョセフスミスに神権の回復以前に何度バプテスマを受けていようとそれは無効だと説明しておられます。前の教会で受けたバプテスマは神権の権能によって執行されてないので有効ではないのです。
This scripture was given as the final sentence of that revelation, gently reminding the Prophet, and us, that God knows all.
この聖句はその啓示の最後の警告として、神がすべてをご存じであることを優しく預言者と私たちに示しています。
How often in our own lives do we “seek to counsel God”?
私たちは自分の生活の中でどんな時「神に忠告」しますか？
For example, we sustain our bishop as the priesthood leader in our ward and recognize that he receives revelation for the members of our ward.
例えば、私たちはワードの神権指導者としてビショップを指示し、ワードの会員のために啓示を受けることを認めます。
Have you ever been called to a new assignment that you did not want? Or to an assignment that you did not think you could do? Or to an assignment that you thought was too small and insignificant for your talents?
あなたは欲しくないと思っていた新しい召しを受けたことがありますか？それとか出来るはずがないと考えていた召し、自分にはやりがいが無く重要でないと思っているような召しに召されたことがありますか？
Did you argue with the bishop? Did you tell him that was not the right calling for you? Did you turn down the calling?
その時ビショップに同意しましたか？彼にその召しは自分には合っていないと言いましたか？召しを断りましたか？
If so, perhaps you were “seeking to counsel God”.
もしそうであれば、それは「神に忠告している」ということなのです。
Or maybe you were praying very hard for some good purpose. Maybe there was a family member who was trying to make an important decision, or a friend who had a very serious illness, or a child who was drifting away from the Church.
また、あなたは何か良い目的のために熱心にお祈りしたことがあるかもしれません。それは家族の誰かが大切な決断をしようとしていたり、重病を患っている友達がいたり、教会から離れようとしている子供がいたりという状況だったかもしれません。
Maybe you fasted and prayed for a particular result. Maybe you prayed that the child would remember what they had been taught and would come back to Church. Maybe you prayed that they would get away from bad companions or bad situations. Maybe you fasted and prayed that there would be some wonderful event happen that would change their lives, like we read about in the scriptures.
あなたは目的があって断食しお祈りしたことがあるかもしれません。子供が教えられた事を思い出し教会に戻ってくるよう祈ったことがあるかもしれません。また聖典で読んだような人生を変える素晴らしい出来事が起こるように断食しお祈りしたことがあるかもしれません。
But none of those things did happen. Maybe after all your prayers and fasting, the family member decided to do something that you did not think was right, or the sick friend passed away, or the child left the Church completely.
しかしどれも起こらなかったかもしれません。あなたの祈りと断食の末、家族の誰かがあなたが正しくないと思うことをする決心をしたり病の友達が亡くなったり子供が教会からすっかり離れたりする結果になったかもしれません。
What do we do when that happens?
そんなことが起きた時、あなたはどうしますか？
Do we become angry with God because we did not get the results that we wanted? Do we lose our own faith because our friend died? Do we leave the Church also because one of our children did not receive a visit from an angel?
私たちの望む結果にならなかったことを神様に対して怒りますか？友達が亡くなったのであなたは教会を離れますか？自分の子供に天使の訪れが無かったことで教会を離れますか？
Do we “seek to counsel God”?
つまり「神に忠告」するでしょうか？
Or do we accept the free agency of others. Do we put our trust in God that everything will work out correctly in the end? Do we go forward with faith that God loves each of his children and will always be there to help them?
それとも他の人の自由意思を受け入れますか？最終的にはすべてがうまくいくと神に信頼を置きますか？神が神の子供一人一人を愛し、私たちを助けるためいつもそばにいてくださるという信仰を持って前進しますか？
As we go through this new week, let’s seek to receive counsel from God, not to counsel God. As we listen to the promptings of the Holy Ghost, we will be directed into the paths that are best for us. As we take action and follow those promptings, our lives will be blessed and we will have peace.
この新しい週を過ごすとき神からの忠告や勧告を求めて過ごしましょう。聖霊の促しに耳を傾けるとき私たちにとって一番よい道へと導かれるでしょう。行動を起こし、それらの促しに従うなら私たちの生活は祝福され平安を受けるでしょう。
