そして、アルマは言った。「見よ、ここにモルモンの泉がある。（この泉はこのように呼ばれていた。）あなたがたは神の羊の群れに入って、神の民と呼ばれたいと願っており、重荷が軽くなるように、互いに重荷を負い合うことを望み、また、悲しむ者とともに悲しみ、慰めの要る者を慰めることを望み、また神に贖われ、第一の復活にあずかる人々とともに数えられて永遠の命を得られるように、いつでも、どのような所にいても、死に至るまでも神の証人になることを望んでいる。モーサヤ１８：８－９
And it came to pass that he said unto them: Behold, here are the waters of Mormon (for thus were they called) and now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those who stand in need of comfort, and to stand as a witness of God at all times and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life; Mosiah 18:8-9
This scripture was given by Alma as he taught the people the words of the prophet Abinadi. Abinadi had been sent to warn king Noah and his people to repent of their evil ways. King Noah rejected the warnings of Abinadi, sent his guards to capture him, and later killed him.
この聖句はアルマが預言者アビナダイの言葉を民に教えていた時に与えられました。アビナダイはノア王と民の悪行を悔い改めるよう警告を与えるために送られたのです。ノア王はアビダナイの警告を拒否したうえ守衛を送って彼を捕らえ後で殺そうとしました。
Alma had been one of king Noah’s priests, but he recognized the truthfulness of Abinadi’s message. He pleaded with king Noah to release Abinadi, but had to flee for his own life. After writing down the words of Abinadi, Alma began teaching those words to others who believed the message.
アルマはかつてノア王の祭司の一人でしたが彼はアビナダイのメッセージの真実性を理解していました。彼はノア王にアビナダイを開放するよう嘆願しましたが、反対に自分の命が危うくなり身を守るため逃れました。
アビナダイの言葉を書き留めた後、アルマはそのメッセージを信じた他の人々にも教え始めました。
In order to meet safely, they all went to a place called Mormon. There, Alma continued to teach them about faith in God, repentance, and baptism. On this particular occasion, Alma challenged his followers to accept the gospel and, as a sign of their faith, to be baptized.
身の安全を考え、彼らはモルモンと呼ばれる場所に集まりました。そこでアルマは続けて神への信仰、悔い改め、バプテスマについて教えました。ここではアルマは従う人々に福音を受け入れ、信仰の印としてバプテスマを受けるようチャレンジしました。
Alma taught his followers about how a faithful follower of Jesus Christ should act. He said they could be baptized if they were desirous to:
• come into the fold of God
• be called his people
• bear one another’s burdens
アルマは従う者たちに忠実なイエス・キリストの従者はどう振る舞うべきか教えました。彼は、
• 神の羊の群れに入り、
• 神の民と呼ばれ、
• お互いの重荷を負い合う
ことを望むものは誰でもバプテスマを受けることが出来ると教えました。
He also explained to them that they should be willing to:
• mourn with those that mourn
• comfort those that stand in need of comfort
彼は
• 悲しむ者と共に悲しみ、
• 慰めの要る者を慰め
• たいと望むべきだと説明しています。
These are all things that we, as members of Christ’s Church and as followers of Jesus Christ, should also be willing to do. We are to accept the gospel. We are to bear one another’s burdens, mourn with those that mourn, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort. In other words, we are to minister to those around us. Note that it does not say that we should limit our ministering activities to only those who are members of the Church.
これらは私たちイエス・キリスト教会の会員として、また彼に従う者として心から喜んで行うべきことばかりです。福音を受け入れ、他の人の重荷を背負い、悲しむ者と共に悲しみ、慰めの要る者を慰めるようにすべきです。言い換えれば周りにいる人々にミニスタリングするのです。注意すべきことは私たちはミニスタリングの対象が教会員のみだと述べていない点です。
Most importantly, Alma teaches us that we should be willing to stand as a witness of God at all times and in all things, and in all places.
最も大切なのは、私たちはいつでも、どんな事においても、どこにいても神の証人として立ち上がりたいと望むべきだとアルマは教えていることです。
That is a very inclusive statement. It does not say “some of the time”, or “when it is convenient” or “when it is socially acceptable”. It says we should be willing to stand as a witness of God “at all times” and “in all things” and “in all places”.
これは包括的な表現です。「時々」とか「都合が良い時」、「社会が受け入れる時」などとは述べていません。
Just like the people that Alma taught, we too should be willing to be a witness of God wherever we are and whatever we are doing. We need to stand for the right. We need to make our voices heard.
アルマが教えた人々のように私たちも何処にいようと、何をしていようと神の証人でありたいと望みを持たなければなりません。私たちは正義のために立ち上がり口を開かねばなりません。
As we go through this week, let’s remember what Alma has taught us. Let’s remember who we are and what we represent. Let’s always be true witnesses of God in everything that we do.
アルマの教えを忘れないように今週も過ごしましょう。自分が何者で誰を代表しているか忘れないようにしましょう。何をしていても真の神の証人でいましょう。
