見よ、わたしは神の御子イエス・キリストの弟子である。わたしはイエス・キリストの民の中でイエス・キリストの言葉を告げ知らせ、彼らが永遠の命を得られるようにするために、イエス・キリストから召された。第三ニファイ５：１３

Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life.  3 Nephi 5:13

This short scripture was given by Mormon as he was abridging the Nephite record and is recorded in the Book of Third Nephi.  In the 5th chapter of 3 Nephi, Mormon explains that he was given the assignment to make a short abridgement of the Nephite records.  He tells us that he cannot write even a “hundredth part” of all the things that were recorded.  He then gives us this scripture, explaining who he is and what his assignment is.

この短い聖句はモルモンがニーファイの版を要約している時に与えられ、それは第３ニーファイの書に記録されています。第３ニーファイ5章でモルモンはニーファイの記録を要約するよう命を受けたと説明しています。彼はその記録の「百分の一」すら書くことが出来なかったと述べています。この聖句を通して彼が誰なのか、またどんな命を受けていたか説明しています。

Does this description apply to all of us as well?

この聖句は私たちにも当てはまるでしょうか？

Like Mormon, we are all disciples of Jesus Christ.  We have accepted his gospel.  We have been baptized by the power of the priesthood for a remission of our sins.  We have received the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

モルモンと同じように私たちも皆イエス・キリストの弟子なのです。彼の福音を受け入れ罪の許しを得るために神権の力によりバプテスマを受けました。そして聖霊の賜物を受けたのです。

While none of us have been given an assignment like Mormon’s, to write an abridgement of the history of the Church, we have all been called to “declare his word among his people”.

私たちは誰もモルモンのように教会の歴史を要約するような命は受けていませんが「民の中でイエス・キリストの言葉を告げ知らせ」るよう召されています。

We are taught in Section 88 of the Doctrine & Covenants that “it becometh every man who has been warned to warn his neighbor”.

私たちは教義と聖約88章で「警告を受けた人は皆、その隣人に警告しなければならない」と教わっています。

We have been warned.  We have been taught about the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  We have been taught about the commandments.  We have been taught about the principles of the gospel.

私たちは警告を受けています。イエス・キリストの贖いについて教わっています。戒めについて教わっています。また福音の原則について教わっています。

What is our duty?

それでは私たちの義務は何でしょう？

How do we “declare his word among his people”?

どのように「民の中でイエス・キリストの言葉を告げ知らせ」たらよいでしょう？

For some, serving as a full-time missionary or as a ward missionary provides many opportunities to declare his word.

専任宣教師やワード部宣教師として主の言葉を告げ知らせる多くの機会がある人もいるでしょう。

But for most of us, who are not currently serving as missionaries, there are many other opportunities to declare his word.  

しかし私たちの殆どは現在宣教師として奉仕していません。けれど主の言葉を告げ知らせる多くの機会が他にもあります。

Declaring his word does not mean standing on a street corner and preaching to people.    Declaring his word can be done by being an example of a true disciple of Jesus Christ in all that we do.  Declaring his word can be done by providing service to those in need. Declaring his word can be done by sharing a link to a gospel message on social media.  Declaring his word can be done by being willing to share our beliefs with others whenever an opportunity arises.

主の言葉を告げ知らせることは街角に立ち説教する事とは違います。私たちのすべての行いを通してイエス・キリストの真の弟子として模範となることでそれが出来ます。助けがいる誰かを助けることでもそれが出来ます。ソーシャルメディアで福音の教えをシェアする事でそれが出来ます。また機会があるごとに私たちの信条を喜んで誰かと分かち合うことでそれが出来ます。

Why do we do this?  

何故そうするのでしょう？

Mormon teaches us that we do this so “they might have eternal life”.  We have already learned about the great Plan of Salvation.  We have already received ordinances that help us prepare to return to our Heavenly Family.  We have a duty and an obligation to share this same message with others, that they too might have eternal life.

モルモンは私たちがそうする事で「永遠の生命を得る」と教えています。私たちは偉大な救いの計画について学んでいます。私たちは既に天父のもとに戻る準備として儀式を受けています。他の誰かが永遠の生命を得るようこの同じメッセージを分かち合う義務と恩義が私たちにはあります。

Heavenly Father wants all of his children to return to him.  President Nelson recently challenged the youth of the Church to be actively engaged in the work of gathering Israel.  This same challenge and responsibility rests on us as well.

天父は全ての子供が天父のもとに戻って欲しいと望んでおられます。ネルソン大菅長は最近教会の若人にイスラエルの集合の業に積極的に参加するようチャレンジしました。これと同じチャレンジと責任が私たちにもあるのです。

As we go through this next week, let’s look for opportunities to show that we are true disciples of Jesus Christ.  Let’s look for opportunities to declare his word.  Let’s look for opportunities to help others obtain that greatest of all blessings, eternal life.

私たちがイエス・キリストの真の弟子である事を示す機会を探して今週を過ごしましょう。主の言葉を告げ知らせる機会を探してみましょう。他の何よりも素晴らしい祝福である永遠の生命を他の誰かが得られるよう助ける機会を探してみましょう。
