そのため、ニーファイ人の軍隊を指揮する司令官に任命された人（その名はゾーラムといい、彼には二人の息子、リーハイとエーハがいた）、すなわちゾーラムと彼の二人の息子は、アルマが教会を管理する大祭司であることを知っており、またアルマが預言の霊を受けていることも聞いて知っていたので、彼のもとを訪れ、レーマン人に捕らえられた同胞を捜すのに、主は自分たちが荒れ野のどこへ行くのを望んでおられるか知りたいと彼に告げた。アルマ１６：５

Therefore, he that had been appointed chief captain over the armies of the Nephites, (and his name was Zoram, and he had two sons, Lehi and Aha) — now knowing that Alma was the high priest over the church, and having heard that he had the spirit of prophecy, therefore, they went unto him and desired of him to know whither the Lord would that they should go into the wilderness in search of their brethren, who had been taken captive by the Lamanites.  Alma 16:5

This is an interesting scripture that contains an important lesson for us today.  

今日の私たちにも大切な教えが含まれているという点でこの聖句は興味深いものです。

The Lamanites had attacked the Nephites and had captured many of the Nephite men.  Zoram was the leader of the Nephite armies.  Zoram wanted to rescue those men who had been captured.  

レーマン人はニーファイ人を攻め多くの男たちを虜にしました。ゾーラムはニーファイ軍の司令官でした。彼は囚われている同胞を救い出したいと考えていました。

As the leader of the army, he could have led his army out and tried to find the captured men.  Or he could have sent out spies to try to find the men.  Or he could have called together the other leaders of his army and asked them what to do.

軍の司令官としての彼は軍を率いて行き、囚われている者を探し出すこともできたはずです。囚われている者を探し出す密偵を差し向けることもできたはずです。また他の軍隊の司令官たちを呼び集めて彼らに協力してもらうこともできたはずです。

Instead, Zoram and his sons went to Alma for instructions.  They knew that Alma was the leader of the Church.  They knew that he was a prophet.  They knew that he would tell them how to rescue the men who had been captured.

そうする代わりにゾーラムと彼の息子たちは指示を求めてアルマを訪れたのです。彼らはアルマが教会の指導者であり預言者であることを知っていました。アルマが囚われの身である同胞を救い出す方法を教えてくれると知っていたのです。

Instead of relying on his own wisdom, he humbled himself and went to the Lord’s prophet for guidance.  

自分の知恵に頼る代わりに彼はへりくだり主の預言者のもとに導きを求めて行ったのです。

Alma inquired of the Lord and received an answer.  Zoram was then given specific instructions on where he should go and what he should do to accomplish the rescue.  

アルマは主に尋ね答えを受けました。それでゾーラムはどこへ行き何をすれば救出作業を達成できるのか具体的な指示を受けました。

Zoram could still have decided that he was smarter than Alma.  He could have decided that, since he was in charge of the army, he should make the decisions about where to go and what to do.  Zoram could have rejected the instructions he received from Alma.

ゾーラムはそのときでも自分の考えを優先できたはずです。彼は自分が軍の責任者なので何処へ行き何をすべきか決断を下すこともできた筈です。ゾーラムはアルマからの指示を拒否することも出来たはずです。

But Zoram believed that Alma was a prophet of the Lord.  He accepted the instructions he received from Alma.  He followed the instructions exactly.  By doing these things, he was able to rescue every one of the men who had been captured.

しかしゾーラムはアルマが主の預言者であると信じていたのでアルマからの指示を受け入れ、その通りに従ったのです。その結果囚われていた者全員を救出することが出来たのです。

There is a great lesson for us here in the example of Zoram.  Even though he was in a position of great authority, he was humble enough to seek instructions from the prophet.  Once he had received instructions, he followed them exactly.

このゾーラムの例から私たちも学べることが多くあります。彼は権威ある高い地位にいましたが預言者に指示を仰ぐという謙虚さを持っていました。そして一度指示を受けるとその通りに従ったのです。

Today, just like in the days of Zoram, we have a living prophet.  We receive many instructions from our prophet. We have been instructed to read the Book of Mormon every day.  We have been instructed to attend our Church meetings.  We have been instructed to minister to those around us.

ゾーラムの時代のように今日、私たちには生ける預言者がいます。私たちは預言者から多くの指示や勧告を受けています。例えば毎日モルモン書を読むよう教えられています。教会の集会に出席するよう教えられています。また周りにいる人々を愛し仕えるよう教えられています。

Will we be like Zoram and follow exactly the counsel of the Lord’s prophet?  Will we humble ourselves and accept the instructions that we receive?  Will we do those things that the prophet has told us to do?

私たちもゾーラムのように主の預言者の勧告のとおりに従いますか？謙遜になって受ける指示を受け入れますか？預言者が私たちに行うよう教えられた事柄を実行しますか？

If we follow the example of Zoram, we too will be able to accomplish great things.  We too will be able to help those around us.  We too will receive the blessings that come from following the words of the prophet.

ゾーラムの模範に従えば私たちも大いなることを成し遂げられるのです。周りにいる誰かの助けとなれるのです。主の預言者に従うことによる祝福を受けれるのです。

This week, let’s to do the things the Lord has, through his prophet, instructed us to do.  Let’s be humble and accept instructions.  Let’s ask, accept, and follow.  As we do so, just like Zoram, we will receive all the promised blessings.

今週、主が預言者を通して私たちに行うよう指示されたことを実行しましょう。謙遜になり指示を受け入れましょう。求め、受け入れ、従いましょう。そうするときゾーラムのように私たちも約束された祝福を受けるのです。
