地上のすべての教派や宗派、門派の中には、欺こうと待ち伏せる人々の狡猾な悪巧みによって目をくらまされ、見いだす場所を知らないということだけで真理を得られずにいる多くの人がいる。教義と聖約１２３：１２

For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it.  Doctrine & Covenants 123:12

In this scripture, we are reminded that there are many of Heavenly Father’s children on this earth who want to know the truth, but don’t know where to find it.

この聖句では多くの天父の子供が真理を知りたいと思っているもののそれをどこで見つけれるのかわからないと私たちに教えています。

This scripture is an important reminder to each of us that we have a duty to help others find the truths of the gospel.  

この聖句は私たちにも大切な助言です。福音の真実を他の人も見つけれるよう手助けする務めを誰もが持っているのです。

We have been given the great blessing of learning about Jesus Christ and his gospel.  We can be happy because we know about Jesus Christ and about the Plan of Salvation.  Without that knowledge, there is only unhappiness.

私たちはイエス・キリストや福音を学ぶという素晴らしい祝福にあずかっています。私たちはイエス・キリストや救いの計画についての知識のゆえ幸福になれるのです。その知識が無ければ不幸しかないでしょう。

We need to share that happiness with the rest of Heavenly Father’s children.  Many of them are struggling to find happiness.  They want to be as happy as we are.  They want to find peace. 

私たちは天父の他の子供たちにも幸福を分かち合わねばなりません。彼らの多くは幸福を見つけられなくて苦しんでいます。彼らも私たちと同じように幸福になり、平安を見つけたいのです。

This scripture tells us that, even though they are searching for happiness, they are “blinded” by the lies and tricks of evil people.  They search for happiness, but find only temporary relief. They hunger for peace, but find only discord.  They search for answers, but find only the ideas and opinions of men.

彼らは幸福を探求しているにもかかわらず、よこしまな人々の嘘やたくらみにより「目をくらまされ」るとこの聖句は教えています。彼らは幸福を探していても一時的な安らぎしか見つけられなかったり、平安に飢えていても不和しか見つかりません。答えを探していても人の考えや意見しか見つけられません。

How can we fulfill our responsibility to help them find the truth they are seeking?

彼らが捜している真理を見つける手助けをするという私たちの責任をどうして成就できるでしょう。

Sometimes, just being a good example is helpful.  By being a good follower of Jesus Christ, others may be prompted to ask us questions.  Small and simple questions may lead to opportunities to share our thoughts and feelings about Jesus Christ and about the gospel.

時にはただ良い模範でいるだけでも良いでしょう。イエス・キリストの良い従者であることで誰かが私たちに尋ねたくなるかもしれません。たわいもない単純な質問もイエス・キリストと福音に対する私たちの思いや気持ちを分かち合う機会へと導いてくれるかもしれません。

Sometimes, a direct invitation may be appropriate.  A young mother spoke in our Sacrament meeting recently.  She mentioned in her talk that even though she had grown up in Utah and had many Mormon friends, no one had ever invited her to go to church.  She said it was many years later, when she was in her 20’s, that someone finally invited her to go to church with them.  She accepted the invitation and was touched by the Spirit.  That simple invitation led to her baptism a few months later.

時には直接じかに招待するのがよい場合もあります。若い母親が最近私たちの聖餐会でお話ししました。お話の中で彼女はユタで育ちモルモンの友達も多かったにもかかわらず彼女を教会に誘う人は誰もいなかったと話しました。年月がずいぶん過ぎ二十代になった時、ようやく誰かが教会に一緒に行こうと誘ったのです。彼女はその誘いを受け入れ御霊に感動したのです。その率直な誘いが彼女を２，３か月後バプテスマへと導いたのです。

Sometimes, it is through acts of service that we prepare others to hear the message of the gospel.  In many natural disasters around the world, the Church has responded to assist those who are suffering.  Many of the recipients of service have expressed surprise that we would provide such caring service for those who are not members of the Church.  This had led to opportunities to teach individuals about the gospel.

時には奉仕という行いを通して誰かが福音のメッセージを聞く備えをします。世界中の至る所で起きている自然災害において教会は苦しんでいる人々を援助するよう対応しています。助けを受けた多くの人々は教会が会員でない彼らに対してもこれ程思いやりのある奉仕をすることに驚いています。こうしたことも福音を個人に伝える機会に導いています。

There are many good people everywhere.  We meet them every day.  They may be our neighbors, our co-workers, our friends, or just someone we happen to meet during our daily activities.  Many of the good people are seeking happiness in their lives.  We can share our happiness with them.

良い人は至る所にいます。私たちは毎日そういった人に出会います。私たちの隣人、仕事の同僚、友人、日々の活動の中でたまたま出会う人かもしれません。彼らも生活の中で幸福を探しています。彼らにも私たちが感じている幸福を分かち合うことが出来ます。

Let’s look for more opportunities this week to help those who are “blinded by the craftiness of men”.  Let’s look for more opportunities to share our happiness with others.  Let’s always remember that those good people are our spirit brothers and sisters who, just like us, want to return and live again with Heavenly Father.

今週、「人々の狡猾な悪巧みによって目をくらまされ」ている人を助ける機会を探してみましょう。私たちの幸福を分かち合える機会をもっと探してみましょう。そのような善い人々は私たちの霊の兄弟、姉妹であることをいつも覚えていましょう、彼らも私たちと同じように天父の元に戻り共に暮らしたいと願っています。
