And all they who receive the oracles of God, let them beware how they hold them lest they are accounted as a light thing, and are brought under condemnation thereby, and stumble and fall when the storms descend, and the winds blow, and the rains descend, and beat upon their house.
Doctrine & Covenants 90:15
In Section 90 of the Doctrine & Covenants, the Lord gave instructions to the Prophet Joseph Smith about how the First Presidency was to be organized.
教義と聖約９０章では主が預言者ジョセフ・スミスに大管長会をどう組織したらよいか指示を与えられました。
The Prophet is told that “through you shall the oracles be given to another, yea, even unto the church”. In other words, the Prophet and the First Presidency are to teach the Church the doctrines of the gospel. In this case, the word “oracles” means “doctrines” or “instructions”.
預言者は「さらに、あなたを通じて、神託は別の者、すなわち教会員に与えられるであろう」と告げられました。言い換えれば預言者と大管長会は教会で福音の教義を教えるべきだと言うことです。この場合、「信託」は「教義」とか「指示」を意味しています。
In verse 5, we are reminded that the counsel we receive from the First Presidency, which is given to them by revelation from the Lord, is very important. We are told very clearly that we are not to treat that counsel lightly.
５節では主より啓示として受ける預言者や大管長会からの勧告は非常に重要であることを私たちに思い起こさせています。私たちはその勧告を軽視してはいけないことを明確に教えられています。
One of the basic beliefs of our Church is that there are living prophets and apostles on the earth today. The prophet and the apostles receive revelation from God. They then teach us the things that have been given to them by revelation.
私たちの教会の基本教義の一つに生ける預言者と使徒が今日も存在するということがあります。預言者と使徒は神から啓示を受けます。彼らは啓示によって受けた事柄を私たちに教えます。
Do we believe that?
あなたはそれを信じますか？
If we believe that, then what is our responsibility?
もしそれを信じるならば私たちには何をする責任があるでしょう？
It is a very serious thing to receive revelation from the Lord. There are no mistakes. There is no false doctrine. There is only truth and light.
主から啓示を受けることはとても重要なことです。間違いなどありませんし誤った教義もありません。ただそこには真理と光があるだけです。
If we believe that God does talk to the prophet and to the apostles, we have a solemn responsibility to follow very carefully what they teach us. General Conference is one time when we can receive direct instruction from the prophet and from the apostles. They also teach us with their articles in the Ensign and Liahona magazines.
もし神が預言者と使徒に話しかけると信じるならば、私たちには彼らが教えることに注意深く従うという厳粛な責任があります。総大会は私たちが預言者や使徒から直接指示を受けることが出来る機会です。彼らはまたEnsign やリアホナの記事を通して私たちに教えてくれます。
Do we treat that instruction as the word of the Lord to us? Do we take their words seriously? Do we follow what they teach us?
それらの教えも私たちへの主の言葉として受けとめていますか？真剣に彼らの言葉を受けとめていますか？彼らの教えに従いますか？
Or do we treat the instruction as a “light thing”? Do we say to ourselves, “Yes, that is good, but I don’t want to do that”? Do we say, “I think that is just his opinion”?
それともその教えを「軽々しいもの」と受けとめますか？「はい、それは良いことですが私は結構です」と自答しますか？また「それは彼らの個人的な考えでしかない」とでも言いますか？
Someday, we will stand before the Judgement bar of Christ and will have to account for our actions in this life. Hopefully, we will be able to report that we valued the teachings of the prophets and the apostles and that we followed their counsel carefully.
いつの日か私たちはキリストの法廷の前に立ち、この世での行為について責任を取らねばなりません。私たちは預言者や使徒の教えを大切に受けとめ、彼らの勧告に注意深く従ったと報告できることを望んでいます。
Let’s remember this week how important it is to have revelation from the Lord. Let’s remember our responsibility to not “hold them lightly”. Let’s remember to follow carefully whatever we are taught by those whom the Lord has called to lead his Church.
主からの啓示を受けることがどれ程大切なことか忘れないように今週を過ごしましょう。私たちには「軽く受けとめてはいけない」責任があることを覚えておきましょう。主が教会を導くために召された者の教えが何であろうと注意深く従うことを忘れないようにしましょう。
